- 9 - ≥ When attachin g the microphone ho lder and the micropho ne holder adapt or , be sure to tighten the screws firmly even though you might he ar a squeaking so und. ∫ Att aching the tripod ≥ There are tripod mount ing holes that ar e compatib le with 1/4-20UNC and 3/8-16UNC screws.
- 10 - ∫ About batteries that you can use with this unit The battery that can be used with this unit is CGA-D54 s. Prepar atio n Power supply It has been found that counterfeit battery packs which lo ok very similar to the genuine product are made available to purchase in some market s.
- 1 1 - Charging the battery Important: ≥ Do not us e the AC cable with any other equipment as it is designed onl y for this unit. Also, do not use the AC cable from other equipment with thi s unit. ≥ It is reco mmended to charge the ba ttery in a temperatur e between 10 o C and 30 o C.
- 12 - Inserting/removing the battery Inst all the batte ry by inserting it in the direction show n in the figure. Removing the battery Make s ure t hat the power sw itch is s et to OFF and the s tatus indica tor is turned of f, and then remov e by holding onto it t aking care not to drop.
- 13 - Charging and recording time ∫ Chargin g/Recording ti me ≥ T emperature: 25 o C/humid ity: 60%RH ≥ When using the viewfinde r (times in parenthe ses are when using the LCD monitor) ≥ These times are approxima tions. ≥ The indicated cha rging time is f or when the ba ttery has been discharged c ompletely .
- 14 - Connecting to the AC outlet The unit is in the st andby condit ion when th e AC adaptor is connected. The primary circuit is always “live” as long as the AC adaptor is conne cted to an electrical outlet. Important: ≥ Us e the supplied AC adaptor .
- 15 - The unit can record motion pict ures or still pictures to an SD card. Cards that you can use w ith th is unit Use SD cards confor ming to Class 4 or higher of the SD S peed Class Rating* for motion pi cture record ing. * SD Sp eed Class Rating is the speed standar d regardin g continuou s writing.
- 16 - Inserting/removing an SD c ard Caution: Check tha t the acce ss lamp has gone off . 1 Open the SD card slot cover and i nser t (rem ove) the S D card into (from ) the card slot B . ≥ One SD card can be inserte d into each of the card slot 1 and the card slot 2.
- 17 - Set the po wer switch to ON while pr essing the loc k release butto n B to turn on the un it. A The status indicator light s on. ≥ T o turn on the uni t again after the [ECONOMY (BA TT)] or [ECONOMY (AC)] is activate d, set the p ower switch to OFF once, an d then to ON again.
- 18 - The viewfind er is turned off and the LCD monitor is turned on when the LCD monitor is extract ed. The viewfinder is turned on when the LCD monitor is retracted. It is pos sible to chec k the images recorded during 3D r ecording or sc enes recorded i n 3D as 3D when LCD monito r is used.
- 19 - How to use the touch scr een Y ou can operate by directly touchin g the LC D monitor (touch scr een) with your finge r. It is easier to use the sty lus pen (supplied) for det ailed operati on or if it is hard to operate with your f ingers. ∫ T ouch T ouch an d release the touch scree n to select icon or picture.
- 20 - LCD monitor adjustment ≥ These settings will not affect the images actually record ed. This makes it easie r to view the LCD monitor in bright places including ou tdoors. Sele ct the menu. ( l 23) ≥ It cannot be set while 3D is display ed. ≥ When the AC adaptor is in use, [PO WER LCD] is set to [ON] auto matically .
- 21 - Vie wfinder adjustment ≥ These settings will not affect the images actually record ed. It adjust s the fiel d of view to show the image on the viewfind er clearly . 1 Adjust the vi ewfinder to suit your vision so that you can see the display images clearly .
- 22 - When th e unit is t urned on for the fi rst time, a mess age asking you to s et the date and ti me will appear . Select [YES] and perform s teps 2 to 3 bel ow to set the date and ti me. 1 Select the menu . ( l 23 ) 2 T ouch the date or tim e to be set, then set the desired value using / .

- 24 - Select the menu. 1 Power on/off button [ ] The unit can be turned on/of f when the power switch of this unit is set to ON. ≥ It will not be possible to turn the unit on with the wireless remote control approxima tely 36 hours af ter turning the unit of f.

- 27 - ≥ When recording, make sure your f ooting is stab le and there is no danger of colliding with another per son or object. ≥ Hold the eye cup of the vie wfinder as close as pos sible to your right ey e. ≥ Adjust the angle of the LCD monitor accordin g to the positio n in which the unit i s held.
- 28 - [SD CARD 1] and [SD CARD 2] can be selected separa tely to record motion pictures or still pictures. 1 Select the menu . 2 T ouch the media t o record motion pictures or sti ll pictures. ≥ The media is selected s eparately fo r motion picture s or still pictures and is then highlighted in yellow .
- 29 - Y ou can record lif e-like and powerf ul 3D ful l high definiti on quality video. * The image is an illustrat ion. ≥ Thi s unit can record a 3D full high definition quality video in A VCHD 3D recording format. ≥ Refer to pag e 85 if the 3D full hi gh definitio n quality vide o is viewed with 3D compat ible TV .

- 31 - T o ensur e that the 3D vi deo can be sa fely vi ewe d, pay atten tion t o the fo llowi ng points when recording. ≥ Do not get too cl ose to the subjec t. (U se the 3D gu ide display as guidance . ( l 34)) * * It is possible to ge t close to approxi mately 45 cm when the 3D macro is used .
- 32 - Convergence point adj u stment ∫ About the conv ergence poin t Convergen ce point is a positio n that becomes the reference plane of the 3D image.
- 33 - 2 Ro tate th e CONV . d ial t o adj ust th e converg ence point. ≥ This can be set between C00 an d C99. Position of the conver gence point wil l be set further whe n the n umber is larger . ≥ The subject at the position of the conver gence point will not shoot out or recess from the screen .
- 34 - ∫ 3D guide dis play The 3D gu ide display is a guideline of di stance between the subj ect and thi s unit to ef fectivel y reproduc e the subject as a 3D image . ≥ The values of the 3D guide display will chang e according to the zoom mag nification and conver gence point s ettings.
- 35 - T o record in such a way that 3D image of the subject can be effectively repro duced We reco mmend that you record with the s ubject position ed within the range of the 3D guide display .
- 36 - ∫ 3D Fine The po sition, foc us, and iris of the left a nd right len ses can b e finely a djusted. ≥ S et [ 3D/2D REC MODE] to [3D]. ( l 29) ≥ Conn ect this unit to the 3D co mpa tible television u sing a HDMI cable (optional). ( l 81) 1 Select the menu .
- 37 - Focus adjustment 1 T ouch r / s to adjust the foc us. ≥ It will return to default setting w hen [Reset] is touched. ≥ Focus A ssist will operate whe n [F A] is touched, and the part th at is focused will be displayed in red. T ouch [ F A] again to cance ll the operation.
- 38 - 3D stil l pictures a nd 2D still pictures in [ (1920 k 10 80)] (16:9) are record ed for 3D Recording Mode, and 2D still pi ctures in [ (2304 k 1296)] (16:9) are rec orded for 2D Recording Mode. 1 Change the mode to . ≥ E xtrac t the LCD monitor.
- 39 - ≥ is displayed in the Manua l Mode. ≥ The following modes ap propriate for the co ndition are set ju st by pointing the un it to what you want to rec ord in the Intelligent Auto Mode. ≥ Depending on the recording c onditions, the unit may not ent er the desired mode .
- 40 - ∫ Intelligent Aut o Mode When switching to Int elligent Auto Mode, the Auto White Ba lance and Auto Focus operate and automat ically adjust t he colour balan ce and focusing. Dependi ng on the brightness of the s ubject etc., the aperture and shut ter speed are automati cally adjusted f or an optimum brightne ss.
- 41 - It can b e zoomed up to 10 k for t he 3D Recording Mode, and up to 12 k for the 2D Record ing Mode. ≥ It can zoom up to 23 k when the [i. Zoom] is set to [ON] du ring the 2D Recording Mode. ( l 1 12) ≥ Zoom magnification c an be checked in the screen display of Z00 to Z99.
- 42 - ∫ About the zoo m speed ≥ The zoom speed will vary depend ing on how far the zoom leve r is pressed or how fast th e zoom ring is rotate d. ≥ Zoom speed of the sub zoom lever will vary depending on the setting of [SUB ZOOM] . ( l 120) ≥ The zoom speed does not vary when operating with th e wireless remote contro l.
- 43 - Use the image st abilizer to reduce th e effect s of shake during reco rding. This unit is equip ped with Optical Image S tabilizer in the 3D Recordi ng Mode. This unit is equip ped with Hybrid Optical Image S tabilizer in the 2D Recording Mod e.
- 44 - Perform fo cus adjustment s using the focus ring. If auto foc using is diffi cult due to the conditi ons, then use Manual Focus. ≥ S witch to Manual Mode. ( l 39) 1 Press the FOCUS A/M/ ¶ button to switch to Ma nual Focus. ≥ It will swit ch to MF from AF.
- 45 - Automat ic White Balance function may not rep roduce natural c olours depending on th e scenes or lighting conditions . If so, y ou can adjus t the Wh ite Balance ma nually . Switch the modes of Whi te Balance by pr essing the W .B. button. ≥ Select the optimal mode by confirming the colour on t he screen.
- 46 - ∫ T o set the Whi te Balance in accordance to the recording scene 1 Fill the screen wi th a white subjec t or place a white p iece of pap er in front of the lens. 2 Press the W .B. button to display Ach. ≥ When the operation icon is displayed a nd is touched, it will switch to .
- 47 - Perform Iri s/Gain adjustme nts using the iri s ring. Adjust it when t he screen is too brigh t or too dark. ≥ S witch to Manual Mode. ( l 39) 1 Press the IRIS A/M b utton to switch to Ma nual Iris Mode. ≥ disappears. ≥ The gain is displayed in dB.

- 50 - This unit can rec ord audio in 5.1 ch or 2 ch. When recording in 2 c h, it is possible to switch between built-in microphone, external microphon e, or connected aud io equipment for eac h channel. Microphone setup Recording set ting of the built-in mic rophone can be adjusted .
- 51 - Audio recording Switches th e sound quality for the au dio recording. Sele ct the menu. ≥ It may not be able to play back on ot her devices when set t o [LPCM]. ≥ [AUDI O REC] will be set to when the [REC FORMA T] is set to [HA] or [HE], and the setting ca nnot be changed .
- 52 - ∫ Using an external microphon e or audio eq uipment ≥ Set [MIC SETUP] to [2ch]. ( l 50 ) 1 Connect an externa l microphone o r audio equipment to AUDIO INPUT1,2 te rminals (XLR 3 pin). ( l 8) 2 Use INPUT1,2 (LI NE/MIC) sw itches to switch the connected audio input signal .
- 53 - T o rem ove the external microphone, etc., from t he audio input terminals 1, 2 (XLR 3 pin) Remove while pus hing on the PUSH section of t he audio input t erminals 1, 2 (XLR 3 pin). ≥ Set the input signal to buil t-in microp hone by switching the CH1 , CH2 swit ches to INT (L) or INT (R) afte r removing the exte rnal micropho ne.
- 54 - Adjusting the audio input leve l ∫ Adjusting the input level o f the built-in microph one (5.1 ch) ≥ Set the [MIC SE TUP] to anything other tha n [2ch]. ( l 50 ) 1 Select the menu . 2 (When [SET]/[ SET r ] is selected) T ouch / to adjust the microphone input level.

- 57 - Setting the Time Code T ime code will display th e recording time in hou rs, minutes, se conds, and frames. TC 00:00:00:00 (hour : minute : se cond : frame) ≥ The frame (Number of frames counted every second) will vary depe nding on the recording forma t set ting.
- 58 - Y ou can set the initial time code. 1 Select the menu . 2 T ouch the item to s et and change with / . ≥ It will be set to 00h00m00s00f when t he RESET button is pres sed. ≥ “h” is an abbreviatio n for hour , “m” for minute , “s” for second and “f” for frame.

- 64 - The White Ba lance can be change d to A TW Lock. ( l 45) ≥ It will return to A TW when cancelled. ≥ This cannot be set when th e White Balance is set to anything other than A TW. The in-fo cus area is displayed in red. ≥ The red display does no t appear on the images ac tually recorded.
- 65 - A graph wit h brightness a s horizont al axis and numbe r of pixels at that brightnes s as vertical axis is disp layed. It is possi ble to determine the expos ure of the whole image by look ing at the distribu tion in the grap h. ≥ T o adjust the brig htness, refer t o page 47.

- 68 - Quick S t art 1 Press a nd hold down the QUICK ST ART button until the display on the LCD monitor/ viewfinder disappears. The quick st art lamp E flashes green and the unit goes into Quick S tart S tandb y Mode. 2 Press the QUICK ST ART butto n.

- 74 - Motion pi cture comp atibility ≥ This unit is based on A VCHD 3D/A VCHD Progressive/A VCHD. A VCHD 3D video ≥ Video signals for t he A VCHD 3D that can be pl ayed back with this unit are 19 20 k 1080/ 50i and 1920 k 1 080/24p.

- 77 - Creating still picture from motion picture A single fra me from the recorde d motion picture c an be saved as a still pi cture. 3D still pictur e and 2D still picture will be saved f or the scenes recorded in 3D, and 2D still picture will be saved for t he scenes recorded in 2D.
- 78 - Playback scenes by the selected f ormat Scenes r ecorded with same r ecording fo rmat are pla yed back c ontinuousl y . ≥ Cha nge the mode to and touch the play mode select icon. Then, set [VIDEO/PICTURE] to [3D] or [2D]. ( l 72) 1 T ouch the fo rmat sele ct ic on.

- 80 - ≥ Scenes/still pictures that cannot be playe d back (the thumbnai ls are displayed as ) cannot be deleted . ≥ In c ase of [ALL SCE NES], the deletion may ta ke time if there are many scenes or still pictures.

- 87 - What you can do with a PC HD Wr iter XE 1.0 Y ou can copy the motion/still pict ure data to the HDD of PCs or write to media like Blu-ra y discs, DVD discs or SD cards using HD Writer XE 1.0, the software installed in the supplied CD-ROM. Refer t o the opera ting instruc tions of HD Writer XE 1 .
- 88 - ≥ 3D video or 3D still picture is played back as 2D video or 2D still picture. ≥ It is p ossible to pl ay back on a PC usin g a image viewer st andard to Windows or commercial ly availabl e image brows ing softwa re, and copy pictures to a P C using W indows Explor er.
