To turn off Synology DiskSt ation, press the p ower b utton and hol d i t until you hear a beep sound and the Power LED starts blinking.

7 Cha pter 2 Chapter 2: Hard ware Setup Tools and Parts for Har d Disk Installation A screwdriver At least o ne 3.5” or 2.5” SATA hard dis k (Ple ase vi sit www.sy nology.com for co mpatible har d disk m odels.) Warning: If you ins tall a hard dis k that c ontains dat a, system w ill form at the hard disk and erase al l data.
8 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup 3 Load the h ard disk i n the har d drive tr ay. For 3. 5” Hard Disk: Place the hard disk i n the har d d rive tray, turn the tray upside dow n, and the n tighte n the screws to secure the hard dis k .
9 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup 6 Turn the hard dr ive tray ke y 90 ˚ counter - clockw ise (to t h e Loc k position ) to lock th e handle s of t he ha rd drive trays. 7 Repeat t he steps abov e to as semble al l hard dis ks you have prepared. 8 The dis ks ’ positions are numb ered as show n below .
10 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup Start U p Your D iskStation 1 Connect on e end of the power cord to the p ow er por t of DiskStation , an d the oth er to the pow er outlet. Make sure the p ow er s upply o n/ o ff s wit ch is sw itched to " -".
11 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup A dd a RA M Modul e on DiskStation Synology R AM module 1GB/2GB is designed f or Dis kSta tion memory ex pansion, and i s optiona l for your choice . Follow the steps below to inst all, che ck, or remov e your RAM m odule.
12 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup 4 Insert the new memory mod ule in the memory slot on the motherboard : a Open the ejector s on th e memory slot and pus h them out t o the side s. b Align the notch on the gold edge of t he mod ule with t he notch in t he memory slot.
13 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup Remove the R A M M odule from DiskStat ion 1 Follow step 1 to 3 of the “I nstal l the RAM Module” sect ion to rev eal the mother board of y our DiskSt ation . 2 Remov e the RAM module. a Open the ejectors o n the mem ory slot and push them out to t he sides.
14 Chapter 2: H ardwar e Setup 2 Replace th e long br acket with the short one, and tig hten the 2 screws to secur e the short b racket . To install the network i nterface card: 1 Press and hold the pow er button unt il you hear a beep sound to s hut down your DiskStat ion .
15 Cha pter 3 Chapter 3 : Install DSM on DiskStation On a netw ork computer , follow the steps i n this cha pter to in stall DSM on y our DiskStat ion . After DSM is install ed, you can ma nage all fea tures o f your DiskSt ation by logging i n to DSM with a w eb browser.
16 Chapter 3: I nstall D SM on Disk Station 3 Click Browse to locate the DSM _ [model name] _ [number] .pat installation fil e in the D SM folder of y our installatio n dis c. Y ou can also download th e latest v ersion of DSM fr om Synology Download Center .
