E 8 Part 1 - DISC Mode Disc Printing T erms The following defines a few disc printing terms that are used in this part of the manual. ■ Print Surface This is the side of the disc that the printer will print on. Some discs may ha ve manuf acturer logos or other information pre-printed on this side.
9 E Creating a New Label This section explains how to specify the print area and select a label format for creating new disc printing data. • F or information about printing data that you hav e previously sa ved to memory , see page 54. Example ■ T o create a new disc label 1.
E 10 5. Press SET . ■ Label Formats The label format determines the types and positions of text and logo data f or each bloc k. There are a total of 24 different f ormats, which are divided among three groups: standard f or mats (FORMA T 1 through FORMA T 18), logo for- mats (LOGO 1 through LOGO 4), and auto f or mats (A UTO 1 and A UTO 2).
11 E Output Samples The follo wing shows e xamples of labels that use logos. Inserting a Logo Into a Label When creating a label using a LOGO format (LOGO 1 through LOGO 4), y ou can inser t one of the printer’s 10 b uilt-in logos into the graphic b lock of the format.
E 12 T o insert a logo into a label 1. P erform steps 1 through 5 of the procedure under “T o create a new disc label” on page 9. 2. On the label format selection screen, use and to scroll through the label formats until one of the LOGO f or mats (LOGO 1 through LOGO 4) is display ed.
13 E Specifying Character Spacing There are two wa ys that characters can be spaced: proportional spacing and uniform spacing. With propor tional spacing, the amount of space between two characters de- pends on what those two characters are . With uniform spacing, all characters are separated by the same amount of space.
E 14 T o specify text alignment 1. While inputting text, press FORM . 2. Use and to select ALIGN , and then press SET . 3. Use and to select the alignment setting you want.
15 E 4. Use and to select PRINT , and then press SET . 5. Use and to select T APE , and then press SET . • Pressing and toggles the selection on the above screen between DISC and T APE . 6. Use and to select the label area data you want to print first, and then press SET .

Press to tur n on the printer . • A LAST D A T A icon will also appear on the Main Menu if there is input data left ov er from the last time you used the printer . If you want to contin ue working with the data from your pre vious session, use and to select LAST D A T A , and then press SET .
17 E Creating and Printing a Sequentially Numbered T ape Label This label printer gives y ou a choice of six different numbering formats that you can use to print sequentially numbered labels from 0 to 99999. Numbering Formats Important! • When printing sequentially numbered tape labels, printing is performed up to the number y ou specify .
E 18 6. Input the text f or the COMMENT 1 bo x, and then press SET . Here we will input “File”. 7. Change the star ting number , if you w ant, and then press SET . Here we want to number the labels from 15 through 17, so w e would input 15 here. • If you mak e a mistake and input the wrong number , delete the current number and re-input.
19 E Creating and Printing a Lar ge T ape Label Though your printer can print on tapes up to 24mm wide, there ma y be times that you need to produce e ven larger labels . Y ou can do this by printing the large label in sections, and then assemb ling the sections into the final label.

Combine the tapes to create the large label. • If you use the abo ve procedure to print on 18mm or 24mm tape, the tapes that are output will hav e blank margins along the bottom and/or the top of the upper tape and the top and/or the bottom of the low er tape.
21 E ■ T o create and print a label with a logo 1. Press to turn on the pr inter . 2. Use and to select T APE , and then press SET . • Y ou can also press T APE to enter the T APE Mode. 3. Use and to select NEW , and then press SET . 4. Use the cursor ke ys to select , and then press SET .
E 22 Creating and Printing an Original (Free Design) T ape Label This section describes what you can do with the F ree Design mode of the printer , which lets you design your o wn tape labels.
23 E 3. Input the text f or the next first b lock. • Here we will input “Retail Pac kage”. Indicates the block number where the cursor is currently located. • T o delete a block mark, mov e the cursor to the symbol, and then press DEL . Note that you cannot delete a block mark by pressing the BS key .
E 24 1. In the F ree Design Mode, input the first line of te xt. • Here we will input “New Branch”. 2. Press . The newline mark indicates a newline oper ation. Newline marks appear on the displa y only . They are not printed on the tape. 3. Input the second line of text.
25 E FREE DESIGN: Configuring Bloc k Form Settings Y ou can use the procedure in this section to configure direction, alignment, pitch, and bloc k length settings for each individual b lock. Important! • The follo wing procedure applies when you ha ve multiple b locks in a tape label.
E 26 Use and to select the option you want: • NARRO W: 2mm (1/16") block spacing • WIDE: 4mm (3/16") bloc k spacing • NONE: 0mm (0") bloc k spacing • NARRO W: 6mm ( 1 / 4 ".
27 E Margins Y ou can select from among the follo wing four margin settings . Note • All of the margin measurements mentioned below are appro ximate. NARRO W MEDIUM WIDE Important! • Margins are not cut in the case of shor t tape lengths 31mm (1 1/4") f or NARROW , 38mm (1 1/2") for MEDIUM, 50mm (1 15/16") f or WIDE).
E 28 8. Press . Length value becomes highlighted. 9. Use the number k eys, or the (decrease) and (increase) keys to change the bloc k length setting. • The appearance of the b lock length value on the displa y will change in accordance with your setting as described below .
29 E FREE DESIGN: Aligning T ape Label T ext This section e xplains how to align tape label text within a b lock and ho w to align bloc ks within a tape label. 31 E FREE DESIGN: Changing the Size of T ape Label T ext Normally when you print, the printer automatically selects the optimum char- acter size in accordance with the tape width and the n umber of text lines (A uto Fit).
E 32 ■ T o specify the size of a string of characters Example: T o change the size of “No Smoking” in the text “No Smoking here!” to 1 × × × × × 3 1. In the F ree Design Mode, input the te xt you want. 2. Press SIZE . 3. Use and to select CHARA CTER , and then press SET .

E 38 Using T ape Labels T ape Cut Modes When you are printing a series of tape labels, the tape cut mode controls whether or not a cut operation is perf or med for each label. Y ou can also specify the type of cut operation that should be perf or med.
39 E ■ FULL+HALF CUT • FULL+HALF CUT perform a full cut at the end of each label, and a half cut near the beginning of each label to make the backing paper easier to remove. F o r S a l e F o r S a l e ■ FULL CUT • FULL CUT performs a full cut at the end of each label.
E 40 Cut Modes and Margins The follo wing shows how the tape cut type (full or half) and margin length are aff ected by the tape cut mode and margin setting s.
41 E Part 3 - Inputting and Editing Label T ext This section describes ev er ything you need to know about deleting and editing text y ou hav e already input. Moving the Cur sor Use the cursor ke ys to move the cursor around the displa y and position it for deleting and editing characters.
E 42 About the CODE key The CODE key mak es it possible to input punctuation needed f or a number of different languages . The follo wing shows the ke y operations you should use for each of the char acters formed using the CODE key .
43 E Inputting Illustrations Y our printer gives you a choice of 124 illustr ations that you can use in your labels. T o input illustrations 1. With the cursor at the location where you w ant to input an illustration, press ILLUST to display the ILLUST men u.
E 44 Clearing Input T ext Use the follo wing steps to clear text on the input screen. T o clear all te xt 1. Press FUNCTION and then BS (CLS). • If you are deleting all te xt in the F ree Design label mode, a screen will appear to off er you a choice between ALL or PA R T .
45 E Using Phrase Memory Phrase memory provides storage of nine phrases you can recall and input into your labels . Initially , phrase memor y records 1 through 8 are preset with often-used label phrases. Y ou can use these as they are or replace them with your own te xt.
E 46 When you sa ve input te xt in phrase memory • If the text includes char acter size marks, new line marks, b lock marks and so on, these characters are sav ed as spaces. • If the text includes 49 char acters or more, the first 49 characters are sav ed as input text.
47 E Using Copy and P aste Y ou can copy te xt data you ha ve input in one location, and paste it into an- other location. ■ T o copy text 1. Input the text y ou want to cop y . 2. Press FUNCTION and then COPY . • The message ”COPY OPERA TION COMPLETE” appears and the input screen appears when the cop y operation is complete.

Use and to select RECALL and then press SET . 3. Use the cursor ke ys to select the user character you w ant to recall and then press SET .

E 54 Part 5 - Saving, Recalling and Deleting Labels T o save a label 1. Create the label you w ant to save . 2. After you finish inputting te xt, the f ollowing screen will appear on the printer displa y . 3. Use and to select STORE . 4. Press SET . 5.
55 E Demo Printing Demo printing uses built-in data to demonstrate the type of disc printing and tape label printing that can be performed by the printer . Important! • If there is label data from your last label la yout session is still in memory , performing a demo print will delete it.
E 56 10. Use and to select the print area you want to print, and then press SET . 11. Inser t a disc into the printer. 12. Press SET to star t printing. • Both D A T A 1 and DA T A 2 print in both the upper print area and the lower print area of the disc.
57 E 3. Replace the battery cover . Important! • The printer may suddenly turn off during printing if batter y power goes low . Because of this, use of the b undled AC adaptor is recommended to pow er the printer .
E 58 Caring for the Printer Disc and tape label printing can become unclear if the printer's pr int head and rubber roller become dir ty . P erform the follo wing steps to clean the print head and rubber roller .

E 60 DISC Mode Symptom The printing operation is finished normally , but nothing is printed. Recommended Action Load a new ink ribbon cassette (option). (Star tup Guide, page 11) Use a disc that meets the requirements described in the bundled “Printing Precautions” or at the following Internet URL.
61 E T APE Mode Symptom Recommended Action Possib le Cause I cannot inser t a disc into the printer. Printing will not star t. A tape car tridge is loaded in the printer . The disc is not positioned correctly in the printer. A disc cannot be inser ted into the printer while a tape car tridge is loaded.
