E-2 Befor e getting star ted... k Modes Before starting a calculation, you must first enter the correct mode as indicated in the table belo w . • The following table shows the modes and required operations for the fx-100MS and fx-115MS. fx-100MS and fx-115MS Modes • Pressing the F ke y more than three times displa ys additional setup screens.
E-3 • Mode indicators appear in the upper par t of the displa y , except for the BASE indicators, which appear in the ex ponent par t of the display .
E-4 COMP CMPLX •Y ou can also edit e xpressions on the display and per- form other multi-statement operations. For more details about using multi-statements, see “Multi-statements” in the separate “User’ s Guide.
E-5 COMP 1 2 Use the f or mula below to calculate initial v elocity A for a height of B = 14 meters and a time of C = 2 seconds. Gravitational acceleration is D = 9.
E-6 To input this symbol: Perform this key operation: Unit k (kilo) A k 10 3 M (Mega) A M 10 6 G (Giga) A g 10 9 T (T era) A t 10 12 m (milli) A m 10 –3 µ (micro) A N 10 –6 n (nano) A n 10 –9 p.

CMPLX ........................................................... F 2 • The current angle unit setting (Deg, Rad, Gr a) affects CMPLX Mode calculations.
E-8 Imaginary axis Real axis k Absolute V alue and Argument Calculation Supposing the imaginary number expressed by the rectangular form z = a + bi is represented as a point in the Gaussian plane, you can determine the absolute value ( r ) and argument ( ) of the comple x number .
E-9 B ASE •Y ou select rectangular f or m ( a + bi ) or polar f or m ( r ⬔ ) for display of complex number calculation results. F ... 1 (Disp) r 1 ( a + bi ): Rectangular form 2 ( r ⬔ ):.
E-10 •Y ou can use the f ollowing logical operators between values in Base- n calculations: and (logical product), or (logical sum), xor (exclusive or), xnor (exclusive nor), Not (bitwise complement), and Neg (negation). • The following are the allowable ranges for each of the available number systems.

E-12 COMP Differ ential Calculations The procedure described below obtains the derivative of a function. Use the F key to enter the COMP Mode when you w ant to perf or m a calculation inv olving differentials . COMP ...................................
E-13 COMP •Y ou can omit input of ∆ x , if y ou want. The calculator automatically substitutes an appropriate value for ∆ x if you do not input one. •D iscontinuous points and extreme changes in the value of x can cause inaccurate results and errors.
E-14 Power Supply The type of battery you should use depends on the model n umber of y our calculator . fx-115MS The TW O W A Y PO WER system actually has two power supplies: a solar cell and a G13 T ype (LR44) button battery . Normally , calculators equipped with a solar cell alone can operate only when relativ ely bright light is present.
E-15 fx-100MS This calculator is powered b y a single AA-size battery . •R eplacing the Battery Dim figures on the displa y of the calculator indicate that battery power is low . Continued use of the calculator when the battery is low can result in improper operation.
