6 Pr ojector Overview This section descr ibes the f eatures of the projector , and explains the functions of the projector and remote controller keys. z Slim and compact: B5 file size and a mere 32 mm slim (at thinnest part). Compact enough to install or use just about anywhere.
7 Projector K eys an d Indicator P an el * The projector’ s enter ke y does not have an yt hing printed on it. When you see [ENTER] in this manual, it means you should press the pr ojector’s enter k e y or the [ENTER] ke y of the remote controller .
8 Operation During Pr ojection This section explains the v arious types of ope rations y ou can perf orm while the projector is projecting an image. Y ou can perform the follo wing oper ations while projecting an image.
9 Selecting the Color Mode Y ou can select from amo ng fiv e diff erent co lor mode settings to optimize the projected image in accordance with image c ontents and projection conditions. T o change the color mode 1 Press the [COLOR MODE] key . z This displays the colo r mode selection w indow .
10 Momentarily Cutting Off th e Input Sour ce Ima ge 1 Press the [BLANK] key . z This temporar ily cuts off t he image from the i nput source and proj ects a black screen in its place. 2 T o resume projection of the image from the input source, press the [BLANK] key (or [ESC] key).
11 Displa ying a P ointer in the Projected Image Y ou can select from amo ng diff erent pointer styles, including v arious arrow styles, f or display in the projected image. P ointers can be used dur ing a presentation to indicate or highlight a specific par t of the image.
12 Changing the Aspect Ratio of the Pr ojected Image Use the [ASPECT] k ey to change the aspect ratio of the projected image . For details about the meanings of the “Nor ma l”, “16:9”, “Letter Box”, “Full”, and “T rue” settings, see “Aspect Ratio” under “S creen Settings Main Menu” (page 27).
13 Y ou can use the remote controller ke ys to adjust the volume le v el of the audio that is output from the projector’ s speak er . T o adjust the v olume level 1 On the remote controller , press the [V OLUME] key . z This causes t he [V olum e] screen to appe ar on the projected image.
14 Pressing the [FUNC] ke y displa ys the menu shown belo w . Y ou can use this menu to p erf orm the operations descr ibed below . z Adjust image brightness Highlight “Brightness” and then press the [ENTER] key . • This perf orms the same oper ation as pressing the [BRIGHT] k ey ( ke y) described on page 8.
15 Configuring Ad v anced Pr ojector Settings Y our projector has a setup menu that you can use to configure adv anced settings. Display ing the Setup Menu Pressing the [MENU] ke y displa ys the menu sho wn below in the center of the projection screen.
16 Basic Setup Menu Example The procedure below sho ws how to conf igure the f ollowing three settings: • Image Adjustment 1 Contrast • Image Adjustment 1 Color Mode • Option Settings 1 Eco Mod e Note z Cer tain settings on the setup menu cannot b e changed while there is no input signal to the projector .
17 T o configure the “Image Adjustment 1 Color Mode” setting 5 Press the [ ] key once to select “Color Mode”. 6 Press the [ENTER] key . z This displays the colo r mode menu. 7 Use the [ ] and [ ] keys to select the color mode y ou want, and then press the [ENTER ] key .
18 Y ou can configure the projector so it powers up automatically as soon as you plug it into a power source . With this “Direct P o wer On” f eature, y ou do not e ven need to press the [ P ] (power) k e y . T o enable Direct P ower On, displa y the Setup Menu, and then change the “Direct P ow er On” setting to “On”.
19 The password f eature lets you keep unauthorized individuals from using the projector . Y ou can specify whether passw ord i nput is required whene ver y ou turn on the projector , and y ou can specify and change the passw ord as required.
20 Keep a written record of y our passw ord! Y ou will not be able to use the projector if you f orget its passw ord. W e strongly suggest that you k eep a written or other type of record of the password so you can look it up when necessar y . T o change the passwor d 1 Press the [MENU] key to display the setup menu.
21 T o turn passw or d pr otection o n and off 1 Display the P o wer On P assw ord setting screen b y performing steps 1 thr ough 5 of the procedure under “T o change the passwor d” on page 20. z At this tim e , make sure that “ P ower On Passw ord” is sel ected on the Po wer On P assword setting screen.
22 Y ou can use the procedures in this section to re store all of the settings on a par ticular main menu or all of the settings on the setup menu to their initial f actor y def aults. T o restore all settings on a particular main menu to their initial factory defaults 1 Press the [MENU] key to display the setup menu.

26 About the “Signal Sp ecific” Setting Unit For the items that hav e “Signal Specific” in the “Setting Unit” column o f the abov e tabl e, the setting is saved f or the s pecific type of signal (XGA/60H z, SXGA/60Hz, etc.) that is being input when the setting is performed, an d not f or a specific input source.

Zoom memory lets you sa ve the zoom setting whe n the projector is turned off , so it can be restored automatical ly the ne xt time the pr ojector is turned on.

35 User Maintenance P eriodically clean the projector exterior , lens , intak e v ents, and e xhaust v ents on a regular basis . Important! z Alwa ys make sure that the projector has cooled sufficiently befor e cleaning it. If the projector is tur ned on, perf orm t he f ollo wing steps before cleaning it.
36 Cleaning Intake and Exhaust V ents Dust and dir t tend to collect around the intake v ents located on the bac k and both sides of the projector . Because of this , y ou should use a vacuum cleaner to clean aw ay accumulated dust and dir t periodically as shown below .
37 z The light source lamp is a consumable item. The a v erage lif e of a lamp is appro ximately 2000 hours. After 2000 hours , a message appears to alert you to the need of lamp replacement.
38 Replacing the Lamp Caution z During nor mal use, the lamp and the area around it become e xtremely hot. Before replacing the lamp , turn off the proje ctor and wait f or the cool down operation (indicated when the POWER/ST ANDBY in dicator is flashing amber) to finish.
39 T o replace the lamp Important! z When replacing the lamp, use the special screwdrive r that comes with the replacement lamp. The projector does not come with a screwdriver . 1 T urn off the projector and unplug its AC po w er c o rd . 2 W ait for about 60 minutes to allow the projector’ s current lamp to cool down completely .
40 Caution z T ak e care to a void touching the lamp (gla ss) and the mirrors inside the projector . Doing so can cause the lamp to r upture, shor ten lamp lif e, and otherwise affect lamp performance. 8 Secure the lamp cartridg e with the three screws.
41 T o reset the lamp time af ter exceeding the lamp lif e If you use the e xisting lamp unti l its lif e is exceeded, y ou will not be able to tur n on the projector e ven after y ou replace the lamp wi th a new one. P erform the following procedure to initialize the lamp time in this case, whic h will make it possib le to turn on the projector .
42 Err or Indicator s and W arning Messages W arnin g messages and indicators let you know what the problem is when a projector error occurs . When an error occurs, wait until cool down is complete and the fan stops bef ore unplugging the AC po wer cord.
43 POWER TEMP LAMP : : : Amber flashing Red steady Red steady Red steady P ow er has turned off automati cally due to a fan probl em. Confirm that the PO WER/ST ANDBY indicator is lit red (witho ut flashing) and that the f an has stopped.
44 POWER TEMP LAMP : : : Amber flashing Red steady Red flashing (0.5-second interval) Red flashing (0.5-second interval) The projector w as turned off automatically because the lamp turned off or did no t turn on. After confirming that the PO WER/ST ANDBY indicator is lit red (without flashing ), unplug the powe r cord.
45 Appendix Some video devices are equipped with a component video output terminal. Y ou can use an optionally availab le component video cable (YK-3) to connect the COMPUTER terminal of the projector to the component video output termina l of a video device .
46 The projector suppor ts projection and output of HDMI video and audio output from a computer or video device . Important! z T urn off the projector and the computer or vide o de vice bef ore connecting them.
47 When performing an operation on the remote contro ller, point it at the remote control signal receiver on the bac k or front of the projector . The f ollowing illustr ation shows the range of the remote controller signal.
48 Replacing the Remote Contr oller Battery Caution RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BA TTERY IS REPLA CED BY AN INCORRECT TYPE. DISPOSE OF USED BA TTERIES A CCORDING T O THE INSTR UCTIONS. Caution Misuse of a battery can cause it to leak and stain the area arou nd it, or to explode , creating the risk of fire and personal injur y .
