C5 Spotting Scope - #52291 Instruction Manual.
A spotting scop e is nothin g more than a t e les c ope that is design e d to look around the Earth. Unlik e astro nom ical telescope s, whi c h p roduce inv erted or revert e d images, spottin g scopes pr odu c e cor rect l y ori e nted i mages.

The Ey e piece The eyepi ece, or ocular, is th e op ti cal ele m ent that mag nifies th e image foc used b y th e spotting scope. Th e eyepi ece fits into either the vi s u al back directl y or the erect i m ag e diagonal.
2. Slide th e rubb e r O-rin g onto the back ( ey epi ece end) of the f inder. 3. Position the O-ring o n the main bo dy of th e finder so that it i s toward th e front (i.e., o bjec tive) end of the finder. 4. Slide th e finder, e yepiece end first, int o the front ring of the bracket.

To use y our C5 spotting scope visually: 1. Find a distant o bject that is f ai rl y bright. 2. Insert a low po wer eyepiece (o ne with a long foca l length — 25 to 30mm) in to the spotting scope. 3. Adjust the tripo d until the C5 i s po i nted in t he dire c ti on of the o bject you selec ted.

• When using your C5 as a telep hoto lens, th e split screen or micropris m focus e r of the 35 mm SLR c a mer a may “black out.” This is c ommon with all long fo cal length lens es. If this h a ppens, use the gro und glass portion of your focusing screen.

To verify co llimation, view a star near the ze nith. Use a medium to high power ocular — 12 mm to 6 mm fo cal length. It is imp ortant to center a star in the center of the field to jud g e collimation. Slowly cross in and out of focus and judge th e symmetry of the star.
Conv ersely , if the collimation screw g ets t oo tight, then loo se n the other two screws by the same amoun t. 7. Once th e star image is in th e cent er of th e f ield of view, check to see if t he ring s are concentr ic .
