2 INTRODUCTIO N A spotting scope is no thin g more th an a t elescope that is desig ned to look arou nd the Ea rth. Unlik e astronom ical telesc opes, which produce invert ed or reverted im ages, spot ting scopes produc e correctly orien ted im ages.
3 GETTING ST A RTED The high m agnifica tion of y our spotting scope m ak es it very difficu lt to handho ld and, as a resul t, it must be at tached to a stab le platfo rm. The 80ED has a tr ipod adap ter, which is locate d on the bottom of the spo tting sco pe' s tube ring .

7 Attaching a Camer a To attach a camera to your 80ED spotte r: 1. Rem ove all visu al accesso ries. 2. Thread th e proper T-Ring onto the bu ilt- in T-Adapter thread s at the end of the 1.25" ey epiece adapter. 3. Mount y our camera bo dy onto the T-Ring the same as you would any other lens.

9 VISUA L OBSER VING INFORMA TION Focusing When work ing w ith any op tical ins trument, there are sev eral focu sing hin ts that w ill ensure that y ou get the sh arpest po ssible im age. The hints li sted here a re for v isual observ ing and photog raphy.
10 Field of View Determ ining th e field of v iew is im portant if you w ant to get an idea of the size of th e object y ou are observing. To cal culate the actual fi eld of view, div ide the apparent fie ld of the eyepiece (sup plied by the eyep iece m anufacture r) by the ma gnification.

12 Photographing the Moon After look ing at the n ight s ky for awhile y ou m ay want to try photog raphing it. I f you do, start with a nice, bright objec t like the Moon. To photograph the Moon: 1.
