Your new tractor has been assembled at the factory with exception of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to insure proper tightness.
HOW TO SET UPYOUR TRACTOR CHECK BAI-rERY • Lift seat pan to raised postion and open battery box door. • If this battery is put into service after month and year indicated on label (label located between terminals) charge battery for minimum of one hour at 6-10 amps.
CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM After you learn how to operate your tractor, check to see that the brake is properly adjusted. See 'qO ADJUST BRAKE" in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual. INSTALL MULCHER PLATE • Install two latch hooks to mulcher plate using screw, washer, lock washer, and weld nut as shown.

The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety glass- es or eye shields while operating your tractor or performing any adjust- ments or repairs. We recommend a wide vision safety mask over spec- tacles, or standard safety glasses.

PURGE TRANSMISSION _ILCAUTION: Never engage or disen- gage freewheel lever while the engine is running. To ensure proper operation and perfor- mance, it is recommended that the trans- mission be purged before operating trac- tor for the first time.
MULCHING MOWING TIPS IMPORTANT: For best performance, keep mower housing free of built-up grass and trash. Clean after each use. • The special mulching blade will recut the grass clippings many times and re- duce them in size so that as they fall onto the lawn they will disperse into the grass and not be noticed.

"rRACTOR Always observe safety rules when performing any maintenance. BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be ad- justed. (See 'q-O ADJUST BRAKE" in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual).
BAI-rERY Your tractor has a battery charging system which is sufficient for normal use. How- ever, periodic charging of the battery with an automotive charger will extend its life. • Keep battery and terminals clean. • Keep battery bolts tight. • Keep small vent holes open.

TO LEVEL MOWER HOUSING Adjust the mowerwhile tractor is parked on level ground or driveway. Make sure tires are properly inflated (See "PROD- UCT SPECIFICATIONS'_. If tires are over or underinflated, you will not properly ad- just your mower.
• Pull belt away from mower. BELT INSTALLATION • Install new belt in reverse order of re- moval. • Make sure belt is in all pulley grooves and inside all belt guides.
TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/REPLACE- MENT Should your transmission require removal for service or replacement, it should be purged after reinstallation and before operating the tractor. See "PURGE TRANSMISSION" in the Operation section of this manual.
TO A'I-FACH JUMPER CABLES - • Connect each end of the RED cable to the POSITIVE (+) terminal of each bat- tery, taking care not to short against chassis. • Connect one end of the BLACK cable to the NEGATIVE (-) terminal of fully charged battery.
TO REMOVE HOODAND GRILLAS- SEMBLY • Raise hood. • Unsnap headlight wire connector. • Stand in front of tractor. Grasp hood at sides, tilt toward engine and lift off of tractor.
ACCELERATION TEST • Move throttle control lever from slow to fast position. If engine hesitates or dies, turn idle mixture valve out (counter- clockwise) 1/8 turn. Repeat test and continue to adjust, if necessary, until en- gine accelerates smoothly.
Immediately prepare your tractor for stor- age at the end of the season or if the trac- tor will not be used for 30 days or more. _CAUTION: Never store the tractor with gasoline in the tank inside a building where fumes may reach an open flame or spark.
