T raining your staff What to do when the alarm sounds The following steps are suggested procedures only . W e recommend that all staf f develop a complete understanding of the library’ s policies and follow them as directed. The response should be consistent for all patrons caught in an alarm.
How the system works Y our 3M detection system consists of several components, which include T attle-T ape security strips, circulation accessories, and the detection system. The key to the ef fectiveness of your system is protecting your materials with T attle-T ape security strips.

System configurations The 3M Detection System Model 3900 series consists of four models: 3901, 3902, 391 1, and 3912. The following illustrations show the buried cable mounting option. Other mounting options include direct mounting with the connecting cables routed under either a narrow threshold or a wide baseplate.
System configurations Models 391 1 and 3912 Models 3911 and 3912 have windowed panels on the lattices. Model 391 1 has a single corridor , whereas Model 3912 has two corridors.

Machine characteristics Alarm outputs Visual V isual alarm indicator lights are located on top of each lattice. If the lights are on, an alarm condition has occurred. Audio An audible alarm speaker is mounted on lattice B or C. Alarm volume is adjustable.

Cleaning Instructions Lattice and base T urn off the detection system prior to using liquid cleaners. Remove dirt and greasy buildup using towels or soft cloths that have been dampened with a common household grease-cutting liquid cleaner . 3M suggests a monthly cleaning to retain the best equipment appearance.

System Operation T urning your system on and off Power is applied and removed with a key switch located on the electronics enclosure. T wo keys are supplied with the system. Remove the key while the system is operating to prevent patrons from turning of f the system.
