9 IGNITION SWITCH To start the engine , insert key into the ignition switch and turn clockw ise to th e START po sition. Re leas e key to t h e ON position o nce en gine ha s fired. See Figure 4. Refer to STA R TING THE ENGI NE in the OPERA TION sec tion of this manu al for detaile d startin g instr uctions .
10 LIFT LEVER The lift lever is used to change th e operating posi tion (height ) of the cutting deck . To operate, move the lever to the left, then place in the notch best suite d for you r applic ation .
11 CR UISE CONTROL B UT T ON The crui se c ontrol b utton is l ocated o n the trac tor dash panel to the le ft of the ignitio n switc h. Push the cruis e control button whi le trave ling forwar d at a desire d spe ed. Wh ile hold ing th e button in , rele ase press ure fro m the drive ped al.
12 SETTING THE CUTTING HEIGHT Select the he ight posi tion of the cu tting deck by placin g the d eck li ft lever in any of the six di fferent cutting hei ght notches on the right side of the fender.
13 • While co ntinui ng to hold the cruis e button in , lift yo ur foot fro m the dri ve pedal ( you sho uld feel the crui se latch engage). • If properly engaged, the cruise contr ol button and the dr ive pedal should loc k in th e down positi on, and th e tra ctor will mainta in the s ame forwar d speed.
14 • The operat or mus t remain in the t ractor sea t at all times . If th e operato r shoul d lea ve the seat wi thout pus hing th e PTO knob inward into the disen gaged (O FF) posit ion, th e tractor ’ s engi ne will shut off.
15 Side to Side If the cutti ng deck a ppears t o be mowi ng uneven ly, a si de to side adjus tment can b e perfor med. Ad just if nece ssary as follo ws: WARN ING: Turn the tr actor ’ s engine off , rem ove the k ey fro m the ig nition switch a nd app ly the tractor ’ s pa rking b rake be fore mak ing any a djustm ents t o the cutti ng dec k.
16 Adjust the dr ag links so that equal len gths ar e threaded into t he ball j oint on the le ft side an d the ball jo int on t he ri ght side: • Loosen th e jam n ut found on the dr ag link a t the rear o f the ba ll joint. See Fig ure 1 0. • Remove t he hex nut a nd lock wash er on th e top of ball joi nt.
17 SECTION 10: MAINTENANCE WARN ING: Discon nect the sp ark p lug wire(s) and ground ag ainst the engine before per forming an y adjustme nts, repair s or main tenance.
18 • Grasp the PT O idl er pu lley b racket and pivot it toward the di scharg e chute to reli eve tensio n on the b elt. Re move the deck belt fr om aroun d the elec tric PTO cl utch an d the PTO idl er pul ley.
19 • Route th e new belt a s sh own in Figur e 14, around the deck pu lley s, idler pu lley and elec tric PTO c lutch . • Remount the belt g uards remo ved e arlier. Figure 15 46-inch decks • Lower the deck by moving the lif t leve r into the bottom notch on th e right f ender.
20 Figure 16 Upper Drive Belt • Locate the tr ansmiss ion idler pulley on the upper driv e belt by look ing throug h the battery tr ay opening . See Figure 16. • Grasp the br acket a nd pivot the tr ansmiss ion idler pulley tow ard the r ear of the tractor to releas e tension on the upper dr ive belt .
21 • Slide the belt of f of the var iable -speed p ulley as you li ft the pulley up and out throu gh the battery tr ay openi ng. NOTE: Jack ing the rear of th e tractor up off the ground a nd se curing it wi th jacksta nds a t this po int i n the proc edure wi ll eas e the f ollowing steps, b ut is not necessar y.
22 CUTTING BLADES WARN ING: Cutting b lades ar e sharp. Always protect han ds by wearin g heavy leather wor k gloves to grasp bla des. The blad es may be remo ved for sharpe ning or replaceme nt as follows.
23 Charging If the unit has not bee n put into use for an extended period of time, ch arge the b attery wi th an automotiv e-type 12-volt char ger for a mini mum of one ho ur at si x amps. WARN ING: Batteries give off a n explos ive gas during and for som e time after chargi ng.
