3 1. GENERAL OPERATION • R ead, unders tand, and fol low all instructi ons in the operator’s manual and on the mac hine be for e st arti ng. Keep this manual i n a safe p lace for future and regular re ference and for ordering rep lacement pa rts.
4 • Never leave a running machine unattended. Always turn off blade(s), place transmission in neutral, set park brake, stop engine and remove key before dismounti ng.
5 • Use extra care wi th grass c atchers or other attac hments. Th ese can change th e stabili ty of the m achine. • Keep all movemen t on t he slope s slow a nd gradual .
6 • To reduce f ire hazard, keep the machine free of gr ass, leav es or other debri s build -up. Clean up oil or fuel spil lage. A llow mach ine to cool at least 5 minutes before sto ring. • Before clea ning, repai ring or insp ect ing, ma ke ce rtai n the bl ade and all m oving pa rts have s topped.

11 Ignition / Light Switc h To prevent acc idental star ting and/or battery d ischarge , remove the ke y from the ig nition s witch when th e tractor is not in use. The combinatio n ligh ts an d ignit ion switc h has f our positions . See Figure 8 for a descripti on of eac h positio n.
12 Seat A djustment Lever The seat adju stmen t lever is locate d below the se at. This leve r is used to adjust the seat forwa rd or back ward. Differential Loc k P edal Located at the fro nt of t he left runn ing board.

The hour meter operates when ever the ignition switch is in th e “ ON ” or “ ON/LIGH TS ” position.
14 SECTION 7: OPERATION Safety Interlock Switches This trac tor is eq uipped w ith a safet y interlock system for the protectio n of the opera tor. I f the inte rlock sys tem sh ould e ver mal funct io n, d o not operate the tractor. C ontact yo ur authorize d Cub Cadet Dealer.
15 • Place the PTO switc h in the “ OFF ” position. Place the throttle contro l lever between the “ MID ” and “ FAST ” positions . Then turn the ignitio n key to the “ OFF ” position and rem ove the key from the ignition swit ch. Dri ving The T ract or WARNING: Avoid sudden starts, excessiv e speed a nd sudden s tops.
16 Avoid stopp ing when driving up a slope. If i t is nece ssary to s top whil e driving up a sl ope, star t up smoothly and carefull y to reduce t he possibilit y of flippin g the tract or over bac kward.
17 For best results it is re commended that the first t wo laps should be cut w ith the discharge thr own towar ds the center. After the first two laps, reverse the direc- tion to t hrow t he discharge to the outsi de for the balance of cutting. This will give a better ap pearance to the law n.
18 For the comf ort of t he operator, this trac- tor is equip ped with an adjustabl e tilt steering wh eel. To adjust the st eering wheel: push the stee ring wheel tilt lock lever downw ard, move the steeri ng wheel t o the desired position, and release the steering wheel tilt lock lever.
19 From jus t above the ri ght axle carri er, inside th e right frame ra il, slowly turn the hex nylo n lock nut at the en d of the br ake rod as foll ows to a djust th e brake (Re fer to Figure 1 8): • Turn the nyl on lock nut c lockwise to increase the brakin g force.

21 Accessin g Engin e Compar tment The engine compartm ent can b e access ed by raising th e hood as follows: • Lift the hood stra ight upward at the recessed notches o f the side pa nels to diseng age the in ternal hoo d latch. • Carefull y pivot th e hood forward to open.

29 Cleaning The Engine This tract or has an a ir-cooled engine. Air must be ab le to circul ate freely around the engi ne through the flywhee l screen, th rough the c ooling shroud s and over the fi ns of the cylinde r head and cylind er block.
