2 Introduction Thank you for purchasing this 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747. T o get the maximum performance from the unit, please read this user’ s guide first, and refer to it as needed. Inspection The AC adapter pro vided with the Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747 varies according to region.

6 1.2 Part Names of the 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747 1.2.1 Front Panel 1. T est Result LEDs – Indicates test results according to specified threshold resistance. 2. LCD – Sho ws measurement values and test location status. 3. T est Location LEDs – Indicate the test location and status.

Threshold Resistance Selection Switches – Select the threshold resistances for shoes and wrist strap tests. 3. T est Result Output Selection Switch – Selects which test results are present at the OUTPUT terminal.

9 2.2 Threshold Resistance Settings for the 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747 The test results indicated b y the front panel LEDs are deter mined by comparison of the measured value with the threshold resistance settings (upper and lo w er limits).
10 2.3 Power Preparation 2.3.1 Installing and Replacing the Batteries Important Notes: • T o avoid electric shock when r eplacing the batteries, turn the pow er switch off and disconnect the all cab les befor e beginning . Also, after r eplacing the batteries, always r eplace the co ver befor e using the unit.
11 2.3.2 AC Adapter Connection This 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747 can be operated from six “ AA” alkaline batteries or the supplied AC adapter . The A C adapter has priority , so when the batteries are installed and the adapted is connected , battery po w er is not drained.
12 Important Note: When oper ating on batteries, the pow er saver function minimizes battery dr ain, although a very small amount of curr ent is still requir ed by the tester .

17 Open-Collector Output • When the SIGNAL OUT s witch is set to ALL: The output transistor switches on when the results of the shoe and wrist strap test are OK. When making alter nating shoe/wrist strap tests, the type of test to be conducted next is indicated b y the blinking symbol on the LCD and the blinking LED .
18 4.2 RS-232C Communications Important Notes: • Always turn the pow er switch off w hen making connections. T o avoid damag e to the Shoes and Wrist Str ap T ester 747, do not apply more than the r ated voltage and curr ent to the OUTPUT connector .

21 5.2 General Specifications for the 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747 Ambient Operating Conditions The unit should always be operated indoors, max. 6.562’ (2000 m) height Ambient Storage Conditions Do not store or use the unit where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, high temperatures, high humidity or condensation.

24 Equipment Required • Resistance Substitution Bo x (RSB) – 630 K Ω to 103 M Ω (minimum range) ± 1% or discrete resistors ± 1%, using resistor v alues as indicated in the tabled belo w . • Lead wires – As required to connect between RSB and the 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747.
25 T esting Wrist Low Limit – Refer to Wrist T est T able 1. Switch on the 3M ™ Shoes and Wrist Strap T ester 747. 2. Select 5 M Ω position on the “Wrist High” switch. 3. Select Wrist position on the “Signal Out” switch. 4. Set reference resistor to 630 K Ω .
