SAFETY RULES W oodworking can be dangerous if safe and pr oper operating procedures ar e not followed. As with all machinery , there are certain hazar ds involved with the operation of the product. Using the machine with respect and caution will considerably lessen the possibility of personal injury .
1. DO NOT operate your drill press until it is completely assembled and installed according to the instructions. 2. IF YOU ARE NOT thoroughly familiar with the operation of drill presses, obtain advice fr om your supervisor , instructor or other qualified person.
UNP ACKING Y our drill press is shipped complete in one container . Carefully unpack the drill pr ess and all loose items from the container . Figure 2 illustrates the drill press and all loose items supplied with the machine.
CLEANING Remove the protective coating fr om the machined surfaces of the drill press and all loose items. This coating may be removed with a soft cloth moistened with ker osene. DO NOT use acetone, gasoline, or lacquer thinner for this purpose. ASSEMBLING THE DRILL PRESS Fig.
Fig. 6 Fig. 7 Fig. 8 Fig. 9 4. Place the drill press head (F) Fig. 6, onto the column (A) as far as it will go. Align head to table and base and tighten the two head locking screws (G) with wr ench supplied. 5. Thread the thr ee pinion shaft handles (H) Fig.
Fig. 10 F ASTENING DRILL PRESS TO SUPPOR TING SURF ACE If during operation there is any tendency for the drill pr ess to tip over , slide or walk on the supporting surface, the drill press base must be secur ed to the supporting surface with fasteners through the two holes (A) Fig.
MOTOR SPECIFICA TIONS Y our drill press is wired for 110-120 volt, 60 HZ alternating current. Befor e connecting the machine to the power source, make sure the switch is in the “OFF” position. The motor pr ovides a no-load speed of 1725 RPM. Fig.
Fig. 14 Fig. 17 CHANGING SPEEDS AND ADJUSTING BEL T TENSION Fig. 16 SPINDLE SPEEDS Five spindle speeds of 620, 1100, 1720, 2340 and 3100 RPM are available with your drill pr ess. The highest speed is obtained when the belt is on the lar gest step of the motor pulley and the smallest step of the spindle pulley , as shown in Fig.
Fig. 18 Fig. 19 Fig. 20 Fig. 21 LOCKING SWITCH IN THE “OFF” POSITION When the tool is not in use, the switch should be locked in the “OFF” position to prevent unauthorized use of the tool. T o lock the switch in the “OFF” position, grasp the switch toggle (B) and pull it out of the switch, as shown in Fig.
Fig. 22 The spindle is automatically returned to its upper most position upon release of the handle. It is r ecommended that the handle be allowed to slowly return to the top position after all holes have been bored in the material. This spring has been properly adjusted at the factory and should not be disturbed unless absolutely necessary .
Fig. 25 Fig. 26 DRILLING HOLES TO DEPTH Where a number of holes ar e to be drilled to exactly the same depth, the stop nuts on the threaded stop r od are used as follows: 1. Lower the spindle until the pointer (A) Fig. 25, lines up with the mark on the scale (B) you wish the depth to be.
CORRECT DRILLING SPEEDS Factors which determine the best speed to use in any drill press operations ar e: material, size of hole, type of drill or other cutter , and quality of cut desired. The smaller the drill, the gr eater the RPM required. When drilling in soft materials, use a higher speed than what would be used for harder materials.
