2 GENERAL SAFETY RULES W oodworking can be dangerous if safe and pr oper operating procedures ar e not followed. As with all machinery , there are certain hazar ds involved with the operation of the product. Using the machine with respect and caution will considerably lessen the possibility of personal injury .
3 ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES FOR FOR DRILL PRESSES 1. DO NOT operate your tool until it is completely assembled and installed according to the instructions. 2. IF YOU ARE NOT thoroughly familiar with the operation of drill presses, obtain advice fr om your supervisor , instructor or other qualified person.
4 POWER CONNECTIONS A separate electrical circuit should be used for your tools. This cir cuit should not be less than #12 wire and should be protected with a 20 Amp time lag fuse. If an extension cor d is used, use only 3-wire extension cords which have 3- prong gr ounding type plugs and matching receptacle which will accept the tool’ s plug.
Use proper extension cor ds. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition and is a 3-wir e extension cord which has a 3-prong gr ounding type plug and matching receptacle which will accept the tool’ s plug. When using an extension cord, be sur e to use one heavy enough to carry the current of the tool.

7 ASSEMBL Y 1. Assemble the column (A) Fig. 3, to the base (B) using the four M8x25mm hex head screws (C), thr ee of which are shown. Loosen set scr ew (D) and remove ring (E) and raising rack (F). 2. Make certain worm gear (G) Figs. 4 and 5, is in place in table bracket (H) as shown.
8 4. Slide raising rack (F) Fig. 7, table and table bracket onto drill press column, as shown. Make sur e bottom of raising rack (F) Fig. 8, is engaged with flange (J) on drill press base. 7. Re-assemble ring (E) Fig. 11, which was removed in STEP 1 .
9 9. Figure 13, illustrates the table raising and lowering handle (K) assembled to worm gear shaft (G). 10. Thread clamp handle (M) Fig. 14, into hole in r ear of table bracket, as shown. 11. Place the drill press head (N) Fig. 15, onto the column as far as it will go.
10 13. IMPORT ANT : Make certain the spindle taper (Q) Fig. 17, and tapered hole in chuck (R) ar e clean and free of any grease, lacquer or rust pr eventive coatings. NOTE: Household oven cleaner can effectively r emove any sub- stance from the spindle and chuck; however , carefully follow the manufacturer's safety rules concerning its use.
11 ST AR TING AND STOPPING DRILL PRESS The switch (A) Fig. 21, is located on the front of the drill press head. T o turn the drill press “ON” move the switch to the up position. T o tur n the drill press “OFF” move the switch to the down position.
12 3. The table can be tilted right or left by pulling out and removing table alignment pin (C) Fig. 25, and loosening table locking bolt (D). NOTE: If pin (C) is difficult to remove, turn nut (E) clockwise to pull pin out of casting. Tilt table to the desired angle and tighten bolt (D).
13 Fig. 30 C B 5. After the belt is positioned on the desired steps of the motor and spindle pulleys, pivot motor away from the drill press head until the belt is pr operly tensioned and tighten tension lock knob (B) Fig. 30. The belt should be just tight enough to prevent slipping.
14 OPERA TION The following directions will give the inexperienced operator a start on common drill press operations. Use scrap material for practice to get a feel of the machine before attempting r egular work. WARNING: The use of accessories and attach- ments not recommended by Delta may r esult in risk of injury .
