1. Introduction 1.1 Product Introduction Thank you for purchasing and using our pr in t server. T his print server allows your p rinter to b ecome a shared de vice on th e ne twork. It offers printing flexibility and manage ability on your Local Area Network at an extremely low cost and w ith an absolu te minim u m setup and mainte nance required.
1.2 Product Package This package contains th e following components: One Print Ser ver One Power Adapter One Quick Installation Guide One CD-ROM (Including all the softwa re utilities, dr ivers and Us.
1.3 Network Printing Architecture This section illustrates how print server functions and operates on the network. Before you instal l and use print server, it is strongly recommended that you r ead t.
Because print server s upports IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, TCP/IP and AppleTalk network prot ocols, any ne tworked co mputer c an direc tly prin t to the p rint server from any of it s installed protocol.
In the client inst allation procedure , after PTPP (Peer-to-Peer Pri nting Driver) is installe d into Windows, the system will automatically (manual configuration is also allowed) searc h all the print servers on the network, a nd then add their p rinting por ts into Windows’ printing port (see below ).
UNIX (include HP/UX, SCO Unix, SunO S, Solaris, Unixware DECUnix, IBM AIX and ot hers) and Linux use the system-standar d LPR to print through print serv er. MAC OS MAC OS can use the syst em-standard AppleTalk ne twork to print through print serv er.
1.4 Network Printing Environment Common network envir onmen t are classified as following : Windows Peer-to-Peer Network The client’s PTPP driver will use TCP/ IP protocol to pr int throug h print server. Windows NT/2000/ 2003 Network Network printing function will be come ava ilable afte r PTPP drive r is installed into Windows NT /2000/2003.
NetWare Networ k (see below ) 8.
1.5 Contents of the User’s Manual Chapter 2 explains pri nt server’s hard ware installation and configuration. It is st rongly recomme nded for you to read. The following chapter s introduce: Chapter 3. Windows Peer-to-Peer Network Chapter 4. Windows NT/2000/2003 Server -B ased Networks Chapter 5.
Chapter 13 In Windows XP SP2, you may not find any print server liste d on the “Available Ports ” in “Network Ports Quick Setup”. Please follow the instructio n in this chap te r and resolve the problem.

6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server must have a unique IP addr ess in order to be recognized by the network. You can set up the IP ad dress on the various Unix system s using any one of the following methods: 1. DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) 2.
203.66.191.12 pserver 2. Add an entry to the hos t’s /etc/bootptab fi le, sim ilar to the fo llowing: hostname: :ht=1: :ha=print_server_ether net_address: :ip=print_server_ip_address: Lines should be i ndented with tabs.
6.4 Verify Print Server’s IP Address To verify that your prin t server is responding to the newly assigned IP address usi ng a PING command: ping ip-address 42.
6.5 Configure Remote LPD Printing on the Host The procedure you use to configure your Uni x host(s) to allo w printing to your network remote print se rver varies between differe nt varieties of Unix. The procedure below can be used for Un ix va riants that are re lated to BSD Unix, such as SunOS or Linux.
:rm=203.66.191.186: :rp=lpt1: :lf=/var/spool/lpd/pser verd.log: :sd=/var/spool/lpd/pser verd: :mx#0: Lines should be i ndented with tabs. More than one prin ter name can be used, with variants se parated by vertical bars (name1|name2). The rm= entry should correspond to the IP address you have as signed to the print server.
