1 GETTING STARTED The system comes with the following components: DIGIMERGE TOUCH DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER POWER SUPPLY INSTRUCTION MANUAL, QUICKSTART GUIDE, & SOFTWARE CD REMOTE CONTROL ETHERNET CABLE MOUSE HARD DRIVE SIZ E, NUMBER OF CHANNELS, AN D CAMERA CON FIGURATION MA Y VARY BY MODEL.
2 BASIC SETUP 1. Connect the cameras a. Connect BNC cameras to the BNC ports on the re a r p a n e l . 2. Connect a monitor a. Connect a VG A cabl e (not included) from the V GA port on the r ear panel to the VGA port on your monitor . OR b. Connect a BNC terminat ed cabl e fr om one of the Video OUT port s to a TV or CC TV monitor .

7 MOUSE CONTROL The mouse is the primary control device for the system. To connect a USB mouse: • Connect a USB / PS/2 mouse to the USB port on the r ear panel— DO NOT connect the mouse to the USB po rt on the front panel. The USB port on the front panel is strictl y intended for data transf er .
8 USING THE SYSTEM To power the system ON/OFF: 1. Connect the power cabl e to the port on the rear panel. 2. Pr ess the POWE R button on the fr ont panel or r emote c ontr ol. NOTE: Y ou need to pr ess the P ower button f or initial startup onl y . The system will l oad the live viewing scr een on subsequent resets.
9 Using the Syst em Using Quick Setup (cont’d.) 4. Under PRIORITY, sel ect QUALITY (the quality of the video) or RA TE (frames per second). If you sel ect RA TE, the video quality and frames per sec ond will be at the lo west pos sibl e setting. This will r e duce ov erall video quality, but will maximize the availabl e har d drive space.
10 Using the System On-Screen Display The system shows the following for all display views : 1. Recor ding : "R E C" i nd i cat es t ha t co n ti n uo us record ing is enabled on at l east one channel. NOTE: If REC does not appear on the onscr een display the system is NO T RECORDING.
11 Using the Syst em Using the Virtual Remote Right-click anywhere on the screen to open the Virtual Remote. The Virtual Remote gives you quick access to many of the system’s features using only a USB mouse (included).
12 Using the System Playback During playback, you can right-click anywhere on the screen to open a condensed v ersion of the Virtual Remote. 1. Navigation/Menu : • S : Move cursor up • T : Move cursor down • W : Move cursor left • X : Move cursor right • ZOOM : Click to open/close the Zoom windows.
13 Using the Syst em Setting the Time It is highly recommended to set the time on the system prior to doing any recording. NOTE: All r ecor ding must be st opped on the system in or der to set the time.
14 Using the System Multi-Screen Display The system can display channels in full-s creen single channel, quad, and multi split-screen displays. Repositioning Channels You can reposition the channels on the display screen. This can be very useful when monitoring a live location(s).
15 Using the Syst em Zoom Use the system’s built-in 2X digital zoom to get a cl oser look at images in full-screen (full-screen mode only). To use zoom: 1. F r om live viewing, pr ess the number buttons on the fr ont panel or r emote contr ol to sel ect a channel t o vie w in full-scr een.
16 RECORDING By default, the system is set to immediatel y record at startup from connected cameras— continuous recording. It is highly recommended to keep continuous recording on at all times. The system can perform Continuous Recording, Ev ent Recording, and Schedule Recording.
17 Recording Motion Motion Detection must be applied to specific camera s. If you assign Motion Detection to a camera, that camera will on ly re c o rd when a motion event is triggered. The camera enabled with Motion Detection will have a WHITE number on the OSD (see figure 8.
18 Recording Alarm When an alarm is triggered, the system will co ntinue to record, but can apply unique recording parameters that you can set in the Alarm menu (Main Menu > Alarm). For details, see “ALARM” on page 24. NOTE: Pres s the CANCEL/ ESC button on the r emote contr ol, fr ont panel, or Virtual Remote to cl ear the alarm icon.
19 PLAYBACK View recorded video on the system through playback mode. To begin playback: 1. Pr ess the WX butt on on the r emote contr ol. The system will play the last f ew minutes of the m o s t re ce n t l y re co rd ed v i d e o .
20 SEARCH Search for recorded video data on the system using the Time Search menu. To open the Time Search menu: • Pr ess the button on the fr ont panel or remote c ontr ol To search for recorded video: 1. Pr ess WX t o select the month. 2. Pr ess T t o mov e the cursor t o the cal endar .
21 USING THE MAIN MENU To open the Main Menu: • Pr ess the MENU button on the fr ont panel or the r emote contr ol NOTE: Quick Setup must be disabl ed in or der to view the full syst em Main Menu. F or mor e details see “Setting the Time” on page 13.
22 Using the Main Menu DISPLAY Use the Display menu to configur e the OSD and Auto Sequence settings. To change display settings: 1. Select the DI SPLA Y SETUP ta b, and configur e the foll owing: • ST A TUS BAR : Select to Show or Hide the status ba r o n th e O SD.

27 Using the Main Menu NETWORK Configure network and DDNS options. To configure IP Setup: 1. Connect an Ethernet cabl e to the LAN port on the r ear panel of the system. 2. Disconnect the p ower cabl e and let the syst em power down for a f ew moments.
28 Using the Main Menu DDNS Configure Digimerge DDNS settings. NOTE: Y ou must r egister f or the FREE Digimer ge DDNS service prior to configuring DDNS settings. To configure DDNS settings: 1. Under USE, sel ect DIGIMERGE or OFF . 2. Under DOMAIN NAME, enter onl y the first portion of your DDNS domain fr om the confirmation email.
29 Using the Main Menu SYSTEM Configure System settings. GENERAL To configure general system settings: 1. Sel ect the GENERAL tab and configur e the fol lo w in g : • AUTO L OCK : Sel ect ON/OFF . If ON, the front panel touch-scr een will be disabled after 3 minutes of inactivity .
30 Using the Main Menu DISK Use the Disk menu to format the internal HDD, external USB flash drive (not included), external USB HDD, and configure Overwrite and Disk Monitor settings. Formatting Disks To format the internal HDD/external HDD/USB flash drive: 1.
31 Using the Main Menu UPDATE Use the Update menu to upgrade system firmware. NOTE: Th e system su pports most major brands of USB flash drives with a capacity of 10 MB ~ 16 GB. To upgrade firmware: 1. D own load th e la test fi rm ware up da te f rom the Digimer g e website.
32 BACKUP Backup critical video data on your system to a USB flash drive, external USB HDD, or an external USB CD/DVD-RW drive (not included). NOTE: The system supports most major brands of USB fl as h d r ive s wi t h a ca pa c it y o f 10 MB ~ 4 GB.
33 Backup External USB HDD To backup recorded video: 1. Connect an e xternal USB HDD to the USB port on the fr ont pa nel. 2. F ormat the external USB HDD if y ou have not alr eady done so. F or details on formatting the external USB HDD, see “DISK” on page 30.
34 Backup 6. Under AC TION, select ST ART and pr ess ENTER . If your backup data sp ans mor e than one disc, the syst em will eject the compl eted disc and pr ompt you to insert a new blank disc. Backup will continue as normal. 7. O n ce b ac ku p is co mp lete, p ress CAN CEL /ESC to cl ose r emaining windows.
35 Backup Viewing Backup Video Along with copying the files, the system add s a Backup Video Player (McdPlayer) and an AVI converter to the USB flash drive, external HD D, and external USB CD/DVD-RW drive. Use the Video Player to view the backed up video files on your PC.
36 Backup Using MCD Player MCD Player is a small application that the system places on your USB flash drive when you backup critical video. To use MCD Player: 1. Connect the USB flash drive or e xternal HDD wi th the back ed up video dat a t o your PC; or insert the CD/DVD-R/W disc in to your PC’ s CD/DVD-RW drive.
37 DVR NETVIEW DVR NetView is an advanced content management software (CMS ) that allows live viewing, playback, and control fr om up to 10 DVRs simultaneousl y and 64 individual channels.
38 INSTALLING DVR NETVIEW To install DVR NetView: 1. Insert the softwar e CD into your c omputer ’ s CD/DVD-R drive. At the pr ompt, run or doubl e-click NetViewInstaller.exe . If Autorun does not start, search your CD/DVD-R drive for NetViewinstaller.
39 USING DVR NETVIEW With the application installed, you can open DVR NetView from the desktop icon or the Start menu. NOTE: Make sur e you have c onnected the syst em to your netw ork and have DHCP turned ON. To open DVR NetView: 1. Doubl e-click the DVR Ne tVi ew i con on the desktop or sel ect Start > Pr ograms > NetVie w .
40 Using DVR NetView Adding a DVR To add a DVR: 1. F r om the main screen, click . The Set List Manager window opens. 2. Click Auto Scan . Any DVRs connect ed to the l ocal network will appear in the lis t frame. 3. If your D VR does not appear after Auto Sc an, you c an add it manuall y to the lis t: • SET NAME : ente r a title for th e DVR (e .

42 Using DVR NetView DVR NetView Setup You should configure DVR NetView prior to in itial use. To use setup: 1. F r om the DVR Net View main scr een, click SETUP . The Setup menu opens. 2. Under the GENRAL 1 tab, configur e the following: • OSD SETUP : Choose the el ements to appear on the onscr een display .
43 LIVE MODE Once connected, you can monitor the system in real-time. You can also record, playback, and backup video from a connected DVR. 1. Camera Title : Camer a number, titl e 2.
44 Live Mode Camera Indicators Use the camera indicator for each connected DVR to change channels in full-screen and observe camera status. • Bl ue : Video input is c onnected without r ecor ding .
45 Live Mode Sub-Menu Use the sub-menu from the DVR list to quickly access short-cuts to pertinent information. To open the sub-menu: 1. Sel ect a DVR fr om the DVR List at the bottom of the main scr een. 2. Right-click the DVR t o view the sub-menu. 3.
46 Live Mode Health DVR NetView features an onscreen indication of the health of your connected DVRs. The Health indicator icon displays the names of the last five DVRs to experience any problems or events. The color of the Health Indicator icon will change depending on the errors reported by the DVR.

48 Live Mode PTZ If you have PTZ cameras (not included) connected to your system, click PTZ to view the PTZ control menu. The PTZ control includes the following: 1. 49 RECORDING You can instantly record live video to your PC using DVR NetView. NOTE: Recor ding does not have to be enabl ed on t h e DV R fo r y o u t o rec o rd o n to y o u r PC . To record live video: 1. F r om live viewing, sel ect a DVR fr om the DVR In dicator list at the bottom of the main scr een.
50 PLAYBACK Use Playback mode (PB) to view recorded video on a connected DVR or download the video to your PC NOTE: While in Playback mode, onl y one of the co nn ec te d DV Rs ca n be a ccess ed a t a t im e . To activate playback: 1. Click . DVR NetView sw itches to Play back Mode.

52 Playback Remote Download Remote Download allows you to download and sa ve video from your system directly to your PC. To use remote download: 1. F r om the Remote Sear ch window, click REMOTE and sel ect a DVR fr om the Set List. 2. Sel ect a date in the c alendar .
53 Playback Local Playback View video you have recorded directly to yo ur PC , video you have downloaded to y our PC, or video you have copied to a USB flash drive. To use remote playback: 1. Click LOCAL and then sel ect a D VR fr om the Set List. Video on y our PC is highlighted on the on the cal endar: RED=alarm, GREEN=motion, YELL OW=normal.
54 Playback Playing Backup Files To play files backed up to a USB flash drive: 1. Connect a USB flash drive (not included) to your PC. 2. Open DVR NetView on your PC. 3. Open Playback Mode and cli ck SEARCH . 4. Click LOCAL and select a DVR fr om the Set List.
55 VIRTUAL DVR Virtual DVR is a unique feature of DVR NetView that can help you manage multiple DVRs . A Virtual DVR is not an actual DVR s ystem, but represents a group of many DVRS already listed in the DVR Indicator window. For each Virtual DVR set, up to 64 DVRs can be added, using one camera from each DVR.
56 Virtual DVR Editing a Virtual DVR To edit a Virtual DVR: 1. Sel ect a Virtual DVR fr om the list fr ame. 2. Change the Name and sel ect options and click APPLY . 3. Click OK to sav e your settings. Deleting a Virtual DVR To delete a Virtual DVR: 1.

59 REMOTE SETUP Use DVR NetView to remotely configure connected DVRs. To open remote setup: 1. F r om the DVR NetView main scr een, right-click a DVR icon fr om the D VR Indicator and sel ect Setup . The Display window opens. NOTE: Y ou can also open Remot e Setup fr om the Set List Manager menu.

69 APPENDIX B: SETTING UP REMOTE VIEWING Setting up the Remote Viewing Feature requires se veral steps. Networking skills are required to correctly configure the re mote viewing functions.
70 Appendix B: Setting up Re mote Viewing How Do I Find My IP and MAC addresses? The IP and MAC address of your system are necessary for DDNS setup. DDNS allows you to view and control your system from a remote location. To find your IP and MAC addresses: 1.
71 Appendix B: Setting up Rem ote Viewing How Do I Enable Port Forwarding? You need to enable port forwarding on your router to allow for external communications with your system for the following port: • 7000 Computers, DVRs, and other devices inside your network can on ly communicate directly with each other within the internal network.
72 APPENDIX C: SETTING UP DDNS SERVICE Digimerge offers a free DDNS service for use with your DVR. A DDNS account allows you to set up a web site address that points back to your loca l network. The following outlines how to set up your free DDNS account.
