Page 10 Chapter 2 Parts of the System C HANGING TH E R EMOTE C ONTROL A DDRESS The remote control and receiver can operate on any one of 16 addresses; however , they must both be on the sam e address for the remote to control the receiver . This section explains how to change the address in both devices.

When you use the remote to contro l your TV in limited mode, you w ill only be able to use the POWER , MUTE , and VO L U M E buttons.

Press the either the UP or DOWN ARROW button repeatedly until the device turns off. As you press the UP or DOWN ARROW button, the remote is trying each code in the memory to see if it can turn of f your device.

Page 16 Chapter 2 Parts of the System U SING TV OR A MPLIFIER V OLUME C ONTROL If you set up the remote to control a television, the MUTE and VO L U M E buttons - in any mode - control the TV volume. This does not apply if you use the AUX mode to control a device that has a volume setting.

Page 35 Using T imers Page 35 5. Select a letter in the keypad area on the screen. Repeat to spell out the name. Y ou can enter up to eight ch aracters, including spaces. If needed, select the SP ACE option to insert a space in the name or the <BACK option to correct a letter .

This symbol disappears when the program begin s. While the symbol is display ed, you may do either one of the following.

Page 39 Using T imers Page 39 M AXIMUM N UMBER OF E VENT T IMERS Y ou can create a limited number of event timers. If you try to cre ate more, the receiver displays a menu giv ing you the option to de lete an existing timer . If you do not delete an existing timer , you will not be able to create any new ones.
Page 40 Chapter 3 Using the System D ELETING AN E VENT T IMER 1. Press the MENU button. 2. Select the T imers option. 3. The receiver displays the Event Timer Manage me nt menu. 4. Select an event timer that you want to delete. A check mark appears in the box next to the event timer .
Page 41 Using T imers Page 41 To u s e VCR Event T imers , you must set up the receiver to control the VCR. If the receiver can’ t control the VCR, use an Auto/Ext Event T imer to tune the receiver to the channel you want to record. Use the timers built into the VCR to start and stop the VCR at the right times.

Page 43 Using Locks Page 43 W HEN Y OU H AV E L OCKED TH E R ECEIVER If you try to access a locked ite m or open the Parental and Sys tem Locks menu, the receiver displays a message p rompting you to enter the password. The receiver allows you three tries to enter the correct password.

Page 45 Using Locks Page 45 C REATING OR C HANGING C HANNEL L OCKS Note : You can lock any channel, includ ing pay per view channels. 1. Press the MENU button. 2. Select the Locks option. 3. If the receiver is locked, enter the password using the number pad buttons.
Page 46 Chapter 3 Using the System U NLOCKING THE R ECEI VER If you unlock the receiver , leave the locks unchanged and then lock the receiver again, the same locks will be in effect as before. 1. Press the MENU button to display the Main Menu . 2. Select the Locks option.

Page 48 Chapter 3 Using the System H IDING A DULT C HANNE LS This keeps the Program Guide , Themes lists, and the Brows e Banne r from displaying adult channels. It keeps anyone from choosing such channels by using the UP or DOWN ARROW buttons or the remote control NUMBER PA D buttons.
Page 49 Using Caller ID Page 49 4. Select the Change Password option. 5. Enter the curr ent password using the number pad buttons. As soon as you enter the fourth di git of the password, the receiver highlights the OK option. 6. Press the SELECT button.

Page 52 Chapter 3 Using the System R ESETTING THE R ECEIVER TO F ACTORY D EFAULT S ETTINGS Use these instructions if you want to reset the receiver to be the same as when it was shipped. Note : Resetting the receiver discards all Favorite Lists except the All Chan and All Sub lists.

Look in this section for a description of the problem before cal ling the Customer Service Center . Many problems arise from basic misunderstan dings of how the sys tem works, especially when you are just becoming fa miliar with it.
