12 ■ Internal vs. Extern al Memo ry The camera comes with int ernal memo ry bu ilt into the cam era. Y ou canno t see it, but it is there. If you have a me mory card (e xternal me mo ry) the camera’ s 16MB built-in me mo ry can provide additio na l storage space when the ex ternal memory card is full.

22 Set the app ropriate vide o output mode (NTSC /PAL) corresp ondin g to y our re gion’s T V stan dard to view videos on T V. (US A=NTSC. See App endi x C f or others . Make sure you back u p important data from the memo ry c a rd bef o re formatting.

24 ■ Reco rdin g Video When r ecording videos, we rec ommend you take short clips. This way , if you decide to t ransfer your video clips t o your comput er , th e files will be smaller , your compute r will n eed fe wer syste m resour ces, and you will be bet ter abl e to process, pla yback an d edit vid eo files.

28 ■ Taking Pictures The DXG-30 1V can captu re fine still i mages. The ca mera has a t ripod mou nt for this pur pose. The still image file fo rmat is JPE G. The ma ximum numbe r of recordab le imag es depend s on the amou nt of memo ry space available to it.

For your convenience you can select one of the follo w ing sce n e modes t o automaticall y use pr e-set Whit e Balan ce, EV Co mp ensatio n, M etering , and ISO settings. 31 ■ White Balance There are si x wh ite ba lance set t ings in the S till mode : Au to: Automatic . F o r gener al-pur pose photogr aphy . Sunny: F o r sho oting out d oors on sunny days. Bulb: For indoors with fluo resce nt lighting . Neon: F o r indoors with tungsten lighting.
32 Spot metering: measure s a spot in the ce nter which is a bout 1/25 of the viewfinder ’ s area to det ermine the expo sure of the ent i re image. A squa re fr ame is displayed in the center and indicator appears at the lower left side of t he LCD display .
33 ■ ISO ISO (Sensi tivity) settin gs control the DXG-301V c amera's sen sitivity to li ght. The lowe r t he sensit i vity , the high er the exposu re v a lue ne eded. When yo u increas e the sensitivity , the sh utter spee d i s faster and the exposu re v a lue i s reduced.

45 ● Installing the Camera Driver The camer a driver is not required for XP/Windows 2000 sy stems. F o r older Windows op erating syst ems, inst all t he ca mera driver to your PC: 1. Insert the co mpa nion CD incl uded in the reta il pac kage i nto t he CD- ROM drive.

49 ■ File Transfer Procedure Use the Mass Storage function in the camera and your oper ating system to trans fer files v ia USB. Do not use th e PC app lication softw are for this purp ose. Note: Windows XP and Wi ndows 2000 users do not need to in stall the camera driver to transfer files.
