6 GB Perform th e followin g procedures 1 to 4 to hook up you r system us ing the supp lied co rd s and access ories. 1 Connect the speakers. Conn ect the rig ht and le ft sp eaker co rds to the SPEAKER terminals as shown belo w. 2 Connect the FM and AM antennas.

CD/MP3 – Play 9 GB 1 Press OPEN on the unit. 2 Place a disc with the label side u p on the CD compartment. 3 Press OPEN on the unit again to close the lid of the CD compartment. Notes • Do not use a d isc with tape , seals or past e on it as this may cause ma lf unc ti on.

MP3 audi o t ra ck s cannot be p layed on XR - EM220. 1 Press CD to switch the function to CD. 2 Press PLAY MODE in stop mode repeatedly un til “PGM” a ppears.

T uner 13 GB To change the AM tuning interval (except for European model) The AM tu ning inte rval is fa ctor y-preset to 9 kHz (or 10 kHz for so me areas). To cha nge the AM tuning interval, tune in any AM s tation first, then tu rn off th e power by pressi ng ?/1 .
14 GB Tips • To i mprove broa dcast rece ption, adj ust the su pplied antennas , or c onnect a commer cially availa ble external antenna. • When an FM s tereo prog ram has stat ic noise, press FM MODE until “ MONO” appears. There will be no stereo eff ect, but the r eception will improve .
Ta p e – P l a y 15 GB 1 Press Z PUSH o n the un it. 2 Load a recorded/recordable tape into the cassette holder. You ca n us e TYPE I (no rmal). For model XR-EM550 1 Press TAP E to switch th e function to TAPE. 2 Press N (TAPE / nN on the unit). Pres s N (or TA P E/ nN on th e unit) agai n to play the re verse sid e.

T ape – Recor ding 17 GB You can r ecord just the portio ns yo u like fro m a CD on a tape . You ca n also record a radi o program . Use butto ns on the un it for t h e operation. For model XR-EM550 1 Load a recordable tap e. 2 Select the desired sou rce to record.

Sound Adjust men t /Tim er 19 GB You can wa k e up to music at a preset time. Make sur e yo u have set th e cl ock (see “Se t t in g the clock” o n pa ge 8 ). Use buttons on the remote for the operati on. 1 Prepare the soun d source you want to play.

Displa y 21 GB The clock displa y can be turned off to minimiz e the amou nt o f powe r cons umed duri ng standb y (Powe r Saving Mo de). Press DISPLAY repeatedly while the system is off until the clock display disappears. To ca ncel P ower Saving Mode Press DISP LAY while the s ystem is off.
