SOUND pg. 6 AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS VOLUME Turn the VOLUME control on the m ain unit, or press the VOLUM E buttons on the rem ote control. The volum e level is shown on the display ed as a num ber from 0 to MA X (31). The volume is automatically set to 16 wh en the power is turned off w hen the vol ume level is set to 17 or more.
This unit pr o vides the following three different kinds. ROCK: Powerful sound emphasizing treble and bass. POP: More presence in the v o cals and midrange. CLASSIC: Accented low er frequencies for jazz-ty pe music. Press the ROCK, POP, or CLASSIC button.
1 Press the TUNER/BAND button repeatedly to select the band. When the TUNER/BAND button is p r essed wh ile the power is off, the pow er is turned on directly. 2 Press the DOWN or UP button to select a station. Each time the button is pressed the frequ en cy changes.
The unit can store a total of 32 preset stations. (Each band has a m aximum of 20 available preset stations.) When a station is stored, a preset num ber is assigned to the station. Use the preset n um ber to tune in to a preset station directly. 1 Press the TUNER/B AND button to select a band.
TAPE PLAYBACK pg. 9 BASIC OPERATIONS • On deck 1, tapes are always played back on both sides. On deck 2, y ou can select a reverse mode to play one or both sides. • Use Ty pe I (normal) t apes only . 1 Press the TAPE butto n a nd press the EJECT m ark to open the cassette holder.

About cass ette tapes • To prevent a ccidental erasure, break off the plastic tabs on the cassette tape after recording with a screw driver or other poi nted tool . To record on the tape again, cover th e tab openings w ith adhesive tape, etc.
LOADING DISCS Press the CD button, then press the OPE N/CLOSE button to open the disc com partment. L oad dis c (s) with the label side up. To play on e or two discs , place the discs on th e tray 1 and 2. To load three discs, press the DISC CHANGE button to rotate the trays after placin g two disc.
To play one di sc only, pres s one of the DIS C DIRECT PL AY 1-3. The selected disc is played once. To stop p lay, pr ess the butto n. To pause play , p ress the button. To resume play , press again. To search for a p articular poi nt duri ng playback , keep the or button pressed and release th e button at the desi red point.
A sing le disc or all the discs can be played repeatedly . Press the RANDOM/REPEAT button repeatedly. Each tim e it is pressed, the fun ction can be selected cyclically . RANDOM is surrou nded in red. lights up on the disp lay. RANDOM is surrou nded in red and light up on the d isp lay.
4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to program other tracks . 5 Press the button to s tart play. To check the program Each tim e the or button is pressed in s top m ode, a disc num ber, track num ber, and program num ber wil l be display ed. To clear the program Press CLEAR in stop m ode.
1 Press the MD button. 2 Insert a disc into the disc drive with the label side up and in the direction of the arrow. TOC READING is displayed while the unit reads the data on the inserted disc. Then the information contained in the disc is displayed. 3 Press .
MULTI JOG contro l until the d esired track is displayed. To eject a disc, press the EJECT but ton an d pull t he disc out. NOTE Do not hold the d isc w hile ejecting it, otherw ise a disc can no t be inserted the next time. If this happens, turn off the pow er and disconn ect the A C pow er cord.
RANDOM is surrou nded in red. lights up on the display. RANDOM is surrou nded in red and light up on the d isp lay. NOTE During random play , the follow ing operati ons are n ot possibl e: - to select t he tracks directly w ith the numbered buttons. - to skip to the previo usly played track with the button or the MULTI JOG control.
Each tim e or is pressed i n stop mode, a t rack nu mber and a program num ber will be displayed. To clear the program Press CLEA R in stop mode. When th e disc is removed, the program is also cleared. To add track s to the program Repeat step 2 in stop mode.
(3) Within 10 seconds, press ENTER again. 3 Press one of the function buttons and prepare the source to be recorded. To record from a CD, press the CD butto n and load the CD(s ). Then, select an track to be recorded f irst w ith the , buttons or MULTI JOG co ntro l.
NOTE • Set the tape to the point where recording w ill start. • The reverse mode is automatically set to " ". Note that recording will be done on one side of the tape o nly . 1 Press TAPE . 2 Insert the original tape into deck 1 and the tape to be record ed on into deck 2.
3 Press the SYNC DUB button to start recording. The tapes are rewoun d to the beginning of the front sides, and recor ding starts. To stop dubbing Press . R ECORDING (cont.) pg. 17 AI EDIT RECORDI NG The AI edit function enables CD reco rd ing without w orrying about tape length and track length.
5 Press the num bered buttons on the rem ote control to designate the tape length. 10 to 99 mi nutes can be specified. Exam ple: When us ing a 60 mi nut e tape, press t he 6 and 0 bu ttons. In a few seconds, the mi crocompu ter determines the tr acks to be recorded on each side of the tape.
PROGRAMMED EDIT RECORDING Programm ed edit function en ables CD recording w hile check th e remaining tim e on each side of the tape as th e tracks are program med. NOTE The programmed edit recording will not start from a point halfway in the tape. T he tape must be recorded from the be ginning of either sid e.
7 Press the EDIT/CHECK but ton on t he remote control w hile pressing SHIFT to select side B and progra m the tracks for side B. After con firming B on the display , repeat step 5.

MD EDIT pg. 25 REGISTERING THE DISC TITLE AND TRACK TITLE You can register the titles of the discs and tracks according to the CD wh ich y ou made the recording from. Personal messages also can be registered. REGISTERING THE DISC TITLE 1 Press the MD button and insert an M D to register the titles.
NOTE • While TOC EDIT is d isp layed, do not disconnect the AC cord or shake the unit. Otherwise, the TOC data is no t recorded properly an d the edited contents on a disc can not be play ed. • A disc can not be edit ed: - w hen a prerecorded disc is inserted.
Title? is displayed for 10 seco nd s. 3 Within 10 seco nds, press the ENTER button. The unit turns in to character entry mode. 4 Enter a letter, num ber of symbol. (1) Press the MODE b utton rep eatedly to select the kind of character (capital letters, small letters or num bers/sy mbols).

If only one track is titled on the tracks to be co mbined, this title remains. NOTE You can not com bine a track recorded in m onaural and a track recorded in stereo. CHANGING THE ORDER OF THE TRACKS You can chan ge the order of tracks after com pleting a recording.
6 Within 10 seconds, press the ENTER butt on. The order of tracks is ch anged. When EJECT is pressed to eject a disc, TOC EDIT is displayed, the data concerning the co ntents o f the editing are registered. The ho ur stop s flashing and the minute star ts flashing. 3 Press the D OWN or UP button to desig nate the minute, and press the SET button. The min ute stops fl ashing on the display and the clock starts from 00 seconds.
SET. Rep eat to designate the m inute of the timer on tim e. After y o u d esignate the timer-on tim e, o ne o f the source name flashes on the display. 3 Press the DOWN or UP button to select a source, and press SET. • If the TUNER button is pressed, the band cannot b e selected in this step.

Repeat to designate the m inute of the tim er-on time. 3 Press DOWN or UP to select a source, and a tape or an M D to be recorded on. Then, press SET. To record from the radio broadcast on an M D, s elect FM (or AM) MD.
To check the tim e remaining until the power is turned off Press SLEEP o nce while pressing SHIFT. T he remaining tim e is d isplayed for 4 seconds. To cancel the sleep tim er Press SLEEP twice wh ile p ressing SHI FT so that "SLEEP" on th e display dis appears.
