Introd uction 1 1.0 I NTRODUCTION 1.1 General The Liebert InteleCool ® 2 Environmental Control System was de si gned for convenience and dependa bil- ity in unmanned and remote locati ons typical of the tele communications industry.
Introd uction 2 1.3 Optional Features 4 or 5 T on Unit With 3 T on Openings The 4 or 5 ton units with 3 ton supply and return opening s are designed to repl ace 3 ton wall mounted air conditione rs using existing wa ll openings. The ec onomizer/fresh air option is not availabl e.
Introd uction 3 1.3.1 Refrigeration System Options Low Pressure Switch and Low Pressure Byp ass Timer Low Pressure Switch: Used to protect the InteleCool2 if the evaporator blower fa ils, the air filter becomes clogged, the refrigeration circuit malf unctions or if ther e is loss of refrigerant.
Installation 4 2.0 I NST ALLATION 2.1 Prep aration 2.1.1 Room Prep aration The room should be well-insul ated and should be sealed to reduce airborne contam inants from pene - trating the site. Outside air may be introduced through the damper op tion or be used fo r economized cooling by using the Economizer option.
Installation 5 Figure 1 Unit mounting dimensions 2.3 Piping Connections The InteleCool2 is a self -contained, packaged uni t. All refrigerant piping connections are made at the factory, so no external condenser is required. The ev aporator coil con densate drain is factory-suppli ed and drains outdoors through the unit base pan.
Installation 6 2.4 Ducting Field-supplied ducting can be at tached to the unit duct connection once the unit has been mounted to the outside wall. The total external static pressure for the duct, including gril le, must not exceed the values shown in Table 5 and Table 6 .
Installation 7 Figure 2 Low volt wiring terminals Liebert Thermost at See 2.5.2 - Control Connections for further information, refer to th e detailed instruct ions that ship with the thermostat. Dual Unit Control The InteleCool ® Dual Unit Control is designe d to control two InteleCools in a “lead/ lag” fashion.
Installation 8 2.6 Out side Air Damper - Optional Units supplied with fixed ( non-modulating) outdoor air damper can b e adjusted as follows: 1. Remove the screws from the middle panel and remove pa nel. 2. Loo sen the damper plate screws on the backside of the middle panel.
Checklist for Co mplete Installation 9 3.0 C HECKLIST FOR C OMPLETE I NST ALLATION ___ 1. Proper clearance for servic e access has been maintained. ___ 2. Equipment is level an d mounting fasteners are tight. ___ 3. Ducting comple ted, if required. ___ 4.
Start-Up Procedure 10 4.0 S TA R T -U P P ROCEDURE Verify that installa tion is complete by using the Checklist for Complete Installation . 1. Disconnect all power to the InteleCool2 unit. 2. Adjust remote control to prevent compressor, heat and fan operation.
Operation 11 5.0 O PERATION 5.1 Compressorized Cooling Compressorized cooling is provided by a high efficiency system co nsisting of a co mpressor, thermo- static expansion valve, evaporator, and condenser coil. The InteleCool2 uses R-22 refrigeran t in a conventional vapor-compre ssion refrigeration cycle.
Operation 12 5.2 Economizer Cooling - Optional The Economizer mode uses o utside air to cool th e room when the outside air temperature is coo l enough to allow for econom ical cooling. Components include the damper, spring return direct drive actuator, enthalpy s ensor and actuator cont rol boar d with an integral mixed air sensor.
Operation 13 5.4 Unit Controls 5.4.1 Remote Control Interface Control connections to the InteleCool2 unit use cust omary HVAC terminal desi gnations R , G, W & Y. Contact closures between the 24 VAC (R) and differ ent control connections supply control voltage to the electric panel components resp onsible for the desired function.
Operation 14 T -p ack1 p ackage Includes a low pressure switch, low pressure bypass timer (des cribed above) and fan cycle control. Fan Cycle Control —Condenser Fan Cycling Control; al lows the Inte leCool2 unit to provide cooling to the space when the outdoor ambient temperature is low er than 50°F (10 °C) and down to -20°F (-28.
Maintenance 15 6.0 M AINTENANCE 6.1 Filters Replaceable evaporator ai r filter(s) are supplied with the un it. The filter( s) are easily serviceable from the outside, through th e top front access panel. Filters are usually the most neglected item in an environmental control system .
Maintenance 16 6.5.3 Thermost atic Expansion V alve The thermostatic expansion valve (T EV) keeps the evaporat or supplied with en ough refrigerant to satisfy load c onditions. It does no t turn the compressor on or off, but maintain s proper refrige rant super heat in the suction gas to the compressor.
Maintenance 17 Electrical Failure An electrical failure will be indicated by a distinct pungent odor. If a severe burnout has occurred, the oil will be black and acidic . If a burnout does occu r, correct the problem that caused the burnout and clean the system thoroughly using th e proper procedure.
Maintenance 18 9. Connect a vacuum pump to both the high and low sides of the system through properly sized connections. Evacuate the system twice to 1500 microns, and the th ird time to 500 microns. Break the vacuum each time with dry nitrogen to 2 PSIG ( 13.
