INTRODUCTION AND SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Congratulations on your choice of the Liebert GXT5 000R-208 U ninterruptible Pow er System (UPS). It provides conditioned power to microco mputers and other sensitiv e electronic equip- ment. Upon generation, AC power is cl ean and stable.
MAJOR COMPONENT S T ransient V olt age Surge Suppress ion (TVSS) & EMI/RFI Filters These UPS components provide surge protection and filter both elect romagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interferen ce (RFI). They minimize any surg es or interference present in the ut ility line and k eep sensitive equipment protected.
Auxiliary 120 V / 400 V A Power The GXT5VBATTW120 battery cabinet also provides a tran sformer to provide up to 400 VA of 120 V power. Dynamic Byp ass The GXT5000R-208 provides a n alternate path fo r util ity power to the connected load in the unlikely event of a U PS malfuncti on, such as overload, ove rtemp erature, or an internal UPS failure.

GENERAL INST ALLATION 1. Verify that the 30 A input circuit breaker on the GXT5000R-208 is in the OFF position. 2. For GXT5VBATTW120 only - C onnect the 208 V , one-foot-lon g cord, from the rear of the GXT5000R-208 to the mating external battery connector on the rear of the GXT5VBATTW120.
CONTROLS AND INDICATORS ON / Manual Battery T e st button This button controls output power to connected load(s) and has two functions: • Transfer load to inverter • Manual battery test Pressin.
Load Level indicators - 4 green, 1 amber , 1 red LEDs The Load Level indicators display the approximate load level at all times. • The four green LEDs indicate acceptable levels up to 95%. • The amber light comes on when the load level is 96-105%.
MODES OF OPERATION Normal Mode Operation During normal operation, utility power provid es energy to the UPS. The filters, the power fac- tor correction circuit and the inverter process th is power to provide computer-grade pow er to connected loads.
Byp ass Mode Bypass mode provides an alternate path for util ity power to the connecte d load in the unlikely event of a UPS malfunctio n, such as overload, ove rtemperat ure, or an internal UPS failure. Battery Recharge Mode Once utility power is restored, the UPS resu mes normal operation and the Battery Charger begins recharging the battery.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Tu r n O n Once the AC supply has been applied to the unit, power will be applied to the load ( bypass mode) immedia tely when the 30 A input circuit breaker i s initially cl osed. Turn the u nit ON (inverter mode) by pressing the ON button once.
OPTIONAL BATTERIES - PROGRAMMABLE RUN T IME The GXT5000R-208 may be equipp ed with up to five battery GXT5VBATT cabinets. At least one battery cabinet is required. The first bat tery cabinet may be a GXT5VBATTW120 if a 120V, 400V A auxiliary vo ltage source is nee ded.
Procedure to confirm the battery count 1. Apply AC inpu t power to the U PS. 2. Turn the UPS output off using the Standby bu tton. If the U PS is in inverter mod e, the load must first be transferred to bypass and then to off. 3. Once the UPS output is off, press and ho ld the Standby button continuously.
