11 Introduction About Your Pr inter Your printer has a built-in Ethern et interface and can connect anywhere on your networ k using 10Base-T or 100Base-TX. The interface, which is called the print server in this manual, auto matica lly se lects the c orrec t stan dard wh en it co nnects to a netwo rk.
12 About T his Gu ide This Network Guide contains information about using the print server on a netw ork. It inc ludes how to set up the print s erver, install the configuration software, and modify network settings of your printer and computers. For inf orm ation ab out your printe r, see y our R eference Guide .
13 Operating Environment The print server supports the fo llowing environments. OS Version Protocol Windows 98 Windows 98 SE Windows 95 - TCP/IP (using Eps onNet Direct Print ) IPP (u sing Ep sonNet I.
14 Note: ❏ Only the Intel version of Windows NT is supported. ❏ The multi-user environment of Mac OS 9 is not supported. ❏ If you use the printer in a dial-up router environment, yo u must set an IP address for the printer. Make sure the IP address is suitable for the segment; incorrect IP add ress may generate unexpected dial-up.
15 Features of the Print Server ❏ Connects your EPSON printer using a built-in Ethernet interface, which is called the print server in this manual, to the ne two rk. ❏ Supports multiple protocols , such as TCP/IP, NetWar e, NetBEUI, AppleTalk, and IPP.
16 The orange light indicates whether the print server is connected to 10Base-T or 100Base-TX. The light is on when the connection is 100Base-TX, or off when the connection is 10Base-T.
17 ❏ EpsonNet NDPS Gat eway is a gateway software that you can use to pri nt and monitor t he printer status of the EPSO N printer i n the NDPS (No vell Distrib uted Print Ser vices) environment of NetWare. See “Using the Eps onNet NDPS Gateway”.
18 Print queue -- a location where a p rint job is stored as a file, until the print server sends the job to the assigned printer Protoco l -- a ru le tha t contr ols ho w dat a or inf orma tion is exchanged through a network. Computers and software cannot communicate with each other using diff erent protocols.
19 Note: The RJ-45 connector cannot be c onnected to the phone line connection. Overview This section describes the general procedure on how to set up the print serve r for us e on a netwo rk. 1. Check the print server operation. Check the functions and operations of the print server, such as status lights and RJ-45 connector.

This is b ecause if you select Automatic , the IP address of the print server changes every time you turn on the printer so that you need to change the printer port setting accordingly.
