20 7. If yo u need to ch ange your paper size, number o f copi es, orien tation, and pri ntable area , cli ck t he Paper tab. (Y o u can o ften make these sett ing s in your applic ation software.
21 3. Click Cus tom , and then cli ck the Advanced butt on. Yo u see the A dvan ced dial og box: 4. Check the M edi a Ty pe and Ink settings. These sett ings are the same as the ones you sele ct e d on t he Main dialog box. You can change them here as you custo m i ze your setting s, if needed.
22 Using Special Papers How can you get the b est -look ing p hotos , m ost v ivid col ors, and sharpe st text? Always use EPSON ’s special ink jet pa pers. To show you how much difference EPSON paper can make, we’v e inc lud ed so me f ree samp les.
23 If you’r e using le tter -size or A4-s ize Ph oto Pape r, follow the instru ctions starti ng on pag e 12 t o l oad an d prin t on th e pap er. Be sur e to sel ect Photo Paper as th e Media Type set ting. If you’re using 4 × 6-inch or Pan oramic Phot o Pape r, foll ow th e steps in the nex t sections.

27 Maintaining Y our Printer This secti on descri bes the most co mmon mai ntenan ce procedu res you’l l need to perf orm to keep y our printe r w orki ng at its be st and to pre pare i t f or movi ng.

I f y ou do n’t see an y improvem ent after cleanin g three or four ti mes, check the so lutions in “Solv in g P rob le ms Ge tt ing G oo d Pr int Qua li ty ” on pag e 47.

31 Replacing an Ink Cartridge When the B black or A color i nk o ut lig ht flashe s, the ind ic ated car trid ge is low on ink. Th is is a good tim e to ma ke sure you ha ve a new c artrid ge. W hen the li ght stay s on, the car tridge is empt y and yo u ne ed to rep lace it .
32 Removing and Instal ling Ink Cartridg es You can r eplace a cartri dge when the B black or A color in k out ligh t i s ei ther flash ing or on. (I f you pe rform t hese st eps w hen b oth ink ou t lig hts are off, t he pri nter cleans the print heads as described on p age 27.
33 5. Pull up the ink ca rtrid g e clamp. The cartridge rises up from its holder. (The illu stratio n sho ws th e co lor i nk c artr idge repl aceme nt. To r eplace the bla ck ink car trid ge, li ft u p only the s ma ller c lamp on the le ft.) 6. Li ft t he c art ridg e ou t of the p rint er and disp ose of it c are full y.
34 8. Press d own t he ink cartridge clamp until it lo cks in place. 9. If y ou ne ed to re pl ace t he ot he r ink cart rid ge , repe at st ep s 5 throug h 8 b e for e continuing with step 10. 10. Press t h e R cleaning button and cl ose the printer cover.

36 7. Lower the new ink cartridge i nto its h o ld er with the label facing up an d t oward the back of the pri nte r. 8. Press d own t he ink cartridge clamp until it lo cks in place. 9. Press th e E l oad/e ject bu tton ag ain and close the pr inte r cove r.
37 Aligning th e Print Head If yo ur pr in tout s c on tain mi sal igne d ver ti cal li nes , y ou may n eed t o a lig n the pr int head . Your pri n ter must b e connect ed to a loc al port , not on a netw ork, to u se the Print Head Alignm ent ut ility.
38 Cleaning the Printer To k eep yo ur p rinter wo rking at its be st, you sho uld clean it seve ral tim es a y ea r. Fol low these steps : 1. Turn of f the printer, u nplug the po wer cord, and disconnect the printer cable. 2. Re move al l the pape r fr om th e sh eet fee der.

42 Follow t h ese guidelines when the co n tro l panel lights come on or flash : P is on The P power light is on when the printer is on and r eady to print. It fla shes when the printer is r eceiving a print job, charging ink, or cleaning t he print head.
