It can be controlled with a mouse, the fron t panel, an EKB500, and the handhe ld remote control. This chapter will cov er the basic operation using the mouse and the front panel button s.
14 Click on the icon to access the Configurat ion Menu. The Configu ration menu screens (shown in Figure 2-2 OSD Menu) are divided into 3 main sections . Figure 2- 2 OSD Menu ○ 1 In section 1, the re are ten setup options availab le. Move the mouse over an icon and click to select it.

33 Date: Sets the current date of DVR. Time: Set s the current time of DVR. Record Mode: Normal+Event : Normal recording plus event recording . Event Only: Event recording only. Schedule Re c: Schedule recording. Enter the number o f hours per day for the estimated event recording.
34 Network Type : Fixed IP: User se ts a fixed IP for network connection. DHCP: DHCP server in LAN will automatically assign IP fo r network connection. PPPoE: This is for d irect DSL connection application ONL Y (no route r). Check with your I SP to see if they use PPPoE.

Record Mode: 2 record modes are available. Normal + Event: Th is recording mode includes continuous and event recording.

Brightness: Ad justs how bright/dark the p icture appears. If d etails appear to be lo st in the shadows or darker regions, try increasing the B rightness.

39 Pre-alarm Record: Check box to start copying recorded video t o the ha rd disk from several mo ments before the mot ion event. (Pre-alarm recording rate will follow “ Normal ” frame rate setting ) Buzzer: Check t his box to enable the buzzer when a motion event is triggered.

54 4. 5.3 Sc he d ul e S ett in g Figure 4-18 is a scre en shot of the SCHEDULE S ETTING MENU . In this menu you can se t a unique timer to enable recording during a specified time p eriod. This menu is u sed to configure Express Setup, Holida ys and detailed Sch edule settings.

56 Month/date: Uses this e ntry on the same month and day, e very year (e.g. January 1 for New Y ear’s Day) Month/weekday: Uses this e ntry on a specific day of a specific wee k in the month specified (e.g 4 th Thursday in Nove mber for Thanksgiving).
57 1. Click on desired start time bloc k (no nu mbers on it ) on a time bar. At this time, the selected block will be highlighted in blue frame and the selected time b ar will be highlighted by red f rame. There are 24 b locks on the time bar rep resenting 24 hou rs respectively.

59 7. Changing recordi ng mode (color) of a timezone : Use Right /Left arrow key to switch to the first block (with nu mber on it) o f a timezone. Clicking Enter bu tton, and this t imezone will switch to another color, which mean s switching to another record mode.

The speed is limited to the maximum recording rate of the DVR divided by the numbe r of installed cameras. Event: Frame rate in images per second f or e vent re cording.

62 Change the section to different mode (with different color) by clickin g on the first block of each section. The color switches from gray -> orange, every time user clicks the first block of a section.

65 4 . 6 N E T W O R K S E T TI N G Figure 4-22 is a screen shot of the NETWORK SETTING MENU . This menu is for configuring the DVR for a network conne ction. NOTE: Since every Network Configu ration is different, please check with your Network Administrato r or ISP to see if your DVR requires specific IP addresses and/or port numbers.
66 DNS Server 2 : This field shows the secondary DNS server for your n etwork. HTTP Port: Port numb er for HTTP/WEB commun ication. Additional in formation: 1. Set up the DV R Network Menu according to the in structions detailed in the Networking chap ter of this DVR’s manua l.

84 5 N e t w o r k i n g O v e rv i e w This ch apter will g ive you a b asic instruct ion on how to set up the DVR for network conn ection. It is highly recommended t hat yo u have a wo rking knowledge of wha t a netwo rk is a nd h ow it works. Th is will b e helpful in co mpleting the networking process.
85 5 . 4 V i r t u a l P o r t s A port number represen ts a "channel" or entryway for network commun ications. P ort numbers allow different computers to utilize network resources without interfe ring with each other. Port numbers most commonly appear in network progra mming, particularly socket programming.
86 The modem/rou ter wa s either installed by you r Internet service provider or pu rchased b y you t o establish a connec tion to the Internet. A router assigns different internal IP addresses to local computers; this allows multiple computers t o a ccess th e Internet th rough the same external IP address.
