35 English CHARGING THE B A TTER Y P A CK The battery pack is not charged at the t ime of purchase and theref ore needs to be charged bef ore use. In addition, if the bat tery charge becomes low while you are using th e camera, it is recommended to rech arge it as soon as possible .
English 36 Using the docking station When the battery pack is installed i n your camera, you can rec harge it by setting the camera in the doc king station (page 136).

45 English BEFORE T AKING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofocus will w ork in almost all situations; however , there are certain conditions that may cause the autof ocus function to n ot work properl y . If the autofocus function is not working properly , set the focus range to capture images (page 77).
English 46 i Fast-mo ving subjects Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the sa me distance as the desired subject, then reposition the camera to compose the picture.
47 English CAPTURING IMA GES Recording video clips 1 Turn on the camera (page 40). 2 Set the main sw itch to REC. 3 Press the video clip record ing button [ R ]. h Recording begins . During shooting, X appears in the LCD monitor . h It is not necessar y to con tinue pressing the vide o clip recording button while shooting.

51 English B ASIC SHOO TING FUNCTIONS Using the zoom Y our camera h as two zoom functions: optical zoom and digital zoom. Y ou can specify whether or not the digital zoom is enabled (page 120). 1 Point the camera lens at th e subject. 2 Press [T] or [W] on the zoom switch to compose the desired image.

67 English IMA GE QU ALITY Video clip image quality setting When it comes to video clips, a lar g er number of pixels and a higher frame rate means bett er image quality a nd smoother pla yback. O n the other hand, the file size becomes lar ge and uses more memory .
English 68 Still image resolution setting By setting the still image resoluti on (pixels) to a higher setting, image detail is enhanced for a smoother , finer picture . However , the file size also becomes large and uses more me mory . Select the resolution setting that suits your purpose.

English 80 FLICKER-REDUCTION The flick er-reduction setting reduces the flick er that results when filming video clips under fluorescent lights and th e like where the bac kground lighting pulsates at the frequency of the po wer supply . The flic ker-re duction setting is set to a frequency of 50 Hz.
81 English ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial sett ings, the ISO sensit ivity is automatically set a ccording to the brightness of the subject. How ev er, the ISO sensitivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Display the PAGE 2 Shooting S etting Screen (pa ge 62).
English 82 WHITE B ALANCE This camera automati cally adjusts the white balance under most lig hting conditions. Ho wever , if you want to specify the lighting co nditions or change the ov erall tone of the image, the white balance ca n be manually set.
