The sa fety bel t pretensioner s at the front sea ting positions are designed to tight en the sa fe ty bel ts when activ at ed. In fr ontal and near-fr ontal cra shes, side cra shes and roll overs, the sa fe ty bel t pret ensioners may be activ at ed alone or , if the cra sh is of sufficient sev erity , tog ether with the front airbags.
Safe ty Bel t Locking Modes W ARNINGS Aft er any vehicle cr ash, the sa fety belt s yst em at all passeng er seating positions must be check ed by an authorized de aler to v erify that the automa tic locking re trac tor f eatur e for child se ats is still functioning pr operly .
How t o Disenga ge the Aut omatic Locking Mode Unbuckle the c ombination lap and shoulder bel t and allow it t o retra ct compl etel y to diseng age the aut omatic locking mode and r eturn the saf ety bel t to the vehicl e sensitive (emer gency ) locking mode.
Conditions of oper ation Then... If... The sa fety bel t warning light illumina tes 1- 2 minutes and the w arning chime sounds 4-8 seconds. The driv er's safe ty bel t is not buckl ed bef ore the ignition swit ch is turned to the on position... The sa fety bel t warning light and warning chime turn off.
Swit ching the Belt-Minder on and off W ARNING Whil e the sy stem all ows y ou to swit ch it off, this s ystem is designed to impr ov e your chances of being sa fel y belte d and surviving a cra sh. W e rec ommend you le av e the sy stem swit ched on.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERA TION - C ANAD A/UNITED S T A TE S OF AMERIC A W ARNINGS Airbags do not infl ate sl owly or gentl y , and the risk of injury from a deplo ying airbag is the grea test cl ose to the trim c overing the airbag modul e.
R outine maintenanc e of the airbags is not requir ed. DRIVER AND P ASSENGER AIRBA GS W ARNINGS Nev er plac e your arm or any objects ov er an airbag modul e. Placing y our arm ov er a depl oying airba g can resul t in serious arm fractur es or other injuries.
Note: The passeng er airbag sta tus indica tor OFF and ON lamps will ill uminate f or a short period of time when the ignition is first turned on to c onfirm it is functional.

If two a dult s and a child oc cupy a R egul ar Cab, properl y restrain the chil d in the cent er front unless doing so w ould interf ere with driving your v ehicl e. T his pro vides lap and shoulder bel t protec tion for all occupant s, and airbag pr otection f or the adul ts.
S AFETY C ANOPY ™ (If Equipped) W ARNINGS Do not plac e objects or mount equipment on or near the he adliner at the side r ail that may c ome into conta ct with a depl oying curtain airbag. Fail ure to f oll ow these instruc tions may incre ase the risk of per sonal injury in the ev ent of a cra sh.
Childr en 12 years ol d and under should alw ays be properl y restr ained in the re ar sea ts. The sa fe ty canopy will not int erfer e with childr en restrained using a pr operly install ed child or boost er sea t because it is designed t o infla te downw ard from the headliner abo ve the doors al ong the side window opening.
• The design of the fr ont airbags is to deplo y only in front al and near-front al cra shes, for e xampl e not roll overs, side impacts or r ear impacts, unl ess the cra sh causes sufficient l ongitudinal decel eration.

USING MYKEY WITH REMOTE S T ART S Y STEMS V ehicl es With Ford-Appro ved A ftermark et Remote S tart S y stems When using a Ford-appr oved a ftermarket remot e start sy stem, the vehicl e recogniz es the remot e start sy stem as an a dditional admin k ey .
As an added pr eca ution, owner s of vehicl es fitt ed with tra ditional ke ys ma y want t o progr am the remot e start syst em as a MyK ey , if the MyK ey driv er uses the remot e start f ob. Tha t way , when the MyK ey driver starts the v ehicle with the remot e start sys tem, the MyK ey r estrictions r emain activ e.

P ASSIVE ANTI-THEFT S YS TEM Note: The sy stem is no t compa tible with non-Ford a ftermark et remot e start s yst ems. Use of these s ystems ma y resul t in vehicle starting probl ems and a loss of se curity prot ection.

GENERAL INF ORMA TION Condensa tion in Lamp Assemblies Ext erior lamps hav e vents t o acc ommodate normal chang es in air pressur e. Condensa tion can be a natur al by-product of this design. When moist air ent ers the lamp a ssembly throu gh the vents, there is a possibility tha t condensa tion can occur when the temper ature is c old .
Headlamp Flasher E163719 Pull the l ever slightl y to ward the ste ering wheel. Parking Lamps Sel ect position B on the lighting control t o swit ch the parking lamps on. Note: Prol onged use of the parking l amps will cause the ba ttery to run out o f charg e.
Swit ching the Rain Lights On and Off Y ou can switch the r ain light fea ture on and off using the informa tion display contr ol on the ste ering wheel. S ee General Informa tion (pag e 79).
