Important Notice This unit is shipped in “ Sleep ” mode in order to con- ser ve battery life . T o star t the unit, it must first be reset. The Reset button is accessed via the hole abov e the battery door on the back of the unit.

Se ver al icons appear on the upper left of the screen to indicate active modes . These are indicator icons only and perf orm no function when tapped. Note : / on the upper left indicates data e xtending bey ond the current screen. T ap / to scroll up and down and read all the a v ailable data.
Goes to the Timer . Goes to the currently installed book. Cycles through the f our calculators. Cycles through the three conv er ters and the Expense manager (RF-8131 only). Goes to the Data Synchronization screen. This is active only if y ou hav e the PC Sync program installed on your PC and y our unit is connected to your PC .
8 Each time you press ON/OFF , tap , or after a system reset, you see the Home Time screen. Y ou can perf orm the following functions in Home Time. • T ap to go to W orld Time. • T ap MD/DM on bottom left of screen to toggle between the month/da y and da y/month f ormats.
9 Setting Home Time 1. T ap until you see HOME TIME. 2. T ap EDIT . 3. At the city name , tap or to cyc le through the av ailable city names. T ap A-Z to edit a city name. This will be your Home city . Y ou can edit the city , month, day , year , hour and minute.
Viewing W orld Time Y ou must set y our home time bef ore viewing World Time. There are 45 built-in cities . The list is av ailable at the end of this User ’ s Guide. 1. T ap until you see WORLD TIME. 2. T ap o r to cyc le through the a vailab le city times.
T o set the daily alar m, do the following: 1. T ap until y ou see ALARM. 2. T ap EDIT . T ap 0-9 to edit the hour and minute . T ap / to mov e the cursor in the indicated direction. T ap AM/PM at the bottom of screen to toggle between a.m. and p.m. 3.
12 There are three telephone directories: Business, Business 2 and P ersonal. Each director y has 10 fields in which to enter data. The fields appear in the f ollowing sequence: Name, Company , Address, Home, Work, F ax, Cell, Pager , E-mail and Note.
T ap ABC/123 to toggle between the letter/number ke yboards. T ap SYML on the numeric ke yboard to cycle through the list of av ailable symbols. T ap SP A CE to inser t a space. T ap DEL to delete a character . The character at the cursor is deleted. T ap INS to inser t a character .
14 There are three fields in the Schedule: Star t Date, End Date, and Message . Y ou can set a Schedule alarm which sounds for 20 seconds. Y ou can enable/disab le the alarm, and stop the sound at any time. T o enter a Schedule record, do the following: 1.
Note: In the date and time fields, only the number ke yboard is a vailab le. In the Message field, tap ABC/123 to toggle between the letter/number k e y- boards. T ap A-Z or 0-9 to enter your data. T ap SYML , then tap / to cycle through the list of av ailable symbols.
This is av ailable only in RF-8131. Each Anniversary record consists of a Date field and a Message field. T o enter an Anniversary do the following: 1. T ap until you see ANNIVERSAR Y . Y ou see DA T E? on the screen. 2. T ap 0-9 to enter the anniversary date.
17 There are f our fields in the T odo book: Date Due, Message (description), Date Done and Pr iority . Y ou can set prior ity lev els of one to three. T o enter a T odo record, do the f ollowing: 1. T ap once . 2. T ap 0-9 to enter the due date for the T odo.
T ap A-Z or 0-9 to enter your data. T ap SYML , then tap / to cycle through the list of av ailable symbols. T ap SP A CE to inser t a space. T ap DEL to delete a character . T ap INS to inser t a character . T ap / to mov e the cursor . Prior ity is the last field.
Each Memo record consists of a Message field in which you can enter a maxim um of 490 characters. T o enter a Memo do the following: 1.T ap twice. 2. T ap any key to begin entering y our memo. 3. T ap A-Z or 0-9 to enter your data. T ap SYML , then tap or to cycle through the list of av ailable symbols.
Each Internet record has five fields: Message (description), Inter net (address), Login ID , P ass word and Note. Y ou can enter descriptions of your fa vorite W eb sites, the addresses and a note . Y ou can enter a maximum of 108 characters in the Message and Note fields and 80 characters in the Internet field.
21 The Expense manager is av ailable only in RF-8131. Each Expense record consists of the f ollowing fields: Date, Amount, Expense T ype, P a yment T ype, and Note. T o enter an Expense do the follo wing: 1. T ap until you see EXPENSE. Y ou see DA T E? on the screen.
Note : In the Date and Amount fields, only the numbers k eyboard is a v ailable . In the Note field, tap ABC/123 to toggle betw een the letters/num- bers ke yboards. T ap A-Z or 0-9 to enter your data. T ap SYML , then tap / to cycle through the list of av ailable symbols.
23 Phone, Memo and Internet records are sor ted alpha- betically . Schedule and T odo records are sor ted chronologically . Y ou can re vie w your records , edit them or delete them. Searc hing f or a Record 1. T ap the icon of the directory you want to searc h.
24 Viewing a Recor d 1. Find the record y ou want to view as described above. 2. T ap / to view other fields in the record. Empty fields are not displa yed. In a phone record, tap to go directly to the e- mail field. Editing a Record 1. Find the record y ou want to edit.
Y ou can use your organiz er as a Timer . T o set the Timer , do the following. 1. T ap . 2. T ap the number keys or use / to input the hour , minute and seconds you want. 3. T ap ENTER to store your setting. The Timer will beep at the appointed time no mat- ter where you are in the organiz er .
Y our organizer comes with f our fun games: K eyboard Wizard, Tic T ac T oe, Chance and Memory . Ke yboard Wizard This game challenges you to tap a letter that floats across the screen bef ore it gets to the other side. 1. T ap until you see KEYBO ARD WIZARD .
27 Chance Y ou can hav e the unit select a maximum of 10 num- bers from a range of 1-99. 1. T ap until you see CHANCE. 2. T ap ENTER. 3. Enter a range of numbers from 1 to 99. F or e xample, enter 01-75. 4. T ap and enter the amount of numbers y ou want between 1-10.
28 Memory This game tests your memory . 1. T ap until y ou see MEMOR Y . 2. T ap ENTER to begin. 3. Use /// to mo ve the cursor to a hidden number . 4. T ap ENTER to see the number . The number behind the cursor is re v ealed. Continue doing this until y ou find matching num- bers.
Y ou can use your organiz er to spell check, find the- saurus entr ies, translate or find phrases f or a word. The RF-8121 includes the US Spell Check er and F oreign Language Phrase Book. The RF-8131 includes the US Spell Check er , Foreign Language Phr ase Book, Thesaurus and Six Language T ranslator .
30 Y our organizer has f our calculators: a Math Calculator , a Calor ie Calculator , a Tip Calculator and a Discount Calculator . Making a Calculation 1. T ap once . The numeric ke ypad appears. 2. T ap 0-9, . or +/- to enter the numbers you want. Y ou can enter a maximum of 10 digits.
31 Note: If there is an error or ov erflow , E is dis- pla yed on the screen and y ou will not be ab le to do any further calculations. T ap C/CE to clear the error screen and return to the Calculator. Using the Calculator Memory 1. In the Calculator , make a calculation or enter a number .
Using the Calorie Calculator Y our organizer comes with a b uilt-in database of 100 common f ood items and their caloric values. Note: The data is av ailable in English only . Please see “ Bonus Nutritional Guide ” at the end of this User ’ s Guide.
33 4. T ap and enter the date . 5. T ap again and enter the time . Y ou can tap AM/PM to enter the proper time of da y if you pre viously selected the 12-hour time displa y f ormat. 6. T ap . The unit f or the f ood you selected will appear . 7. Enter the relevant n umber .
Getting a Calorie Report 1. T ap until you see the CALORIE. 2. T ap R on the letter keypad. 3. Enter the begin and end dates. Use / to mov e between the fields . 4. T ap ENTER to see the repor t. T ap repeatedly to scroll through the daily repor ts . 5.
Y ou can also use or to change the percent- age to 10% or 20% respectively and tap ENTER . 3. T ap the amount of the bill and tap ENTER. The result you get is the bill amount plus the tip . Using the Discount Calculator There are three built in percentages: 5%, 10% and 20%.
36 There are three conv er ters: Euro , Currency and Metric. Doing Euro Con versions Use the Euro conv er ter to do any of the 12 built-in conv ersions. Note that the rates are set and cannot be changed. In the table below , the rate shown is f or 1 Euro .
Y ou see the first conv ersion screen. 2. T ap or to find the conver sion you want. The rate is displa y ed to the right of the screen. 3. T ap / to change the direction of the conver- sion. 4. T ap 0-9 and . to enter the n umber you want. 5. T ap ENTER to convert.

39 Doing Metric Con versions Use the Metric conv er ter to do any of the eight built- in conv ersions. 1. T ap until you see METRIC. Y ou go to the first conv ersion screen. The conv ersion rate is display ed to the right of the screen. 2. T ap or to find the conver sion you want.
The Rolode x ® Electronics Desktop Manager is the PC software progr am that transf ers data between the Rolode x ® P ersonal Digital Assistant and a personal computer (PC). Y ou can synchronize MS Outlook ® 97/98/2000/2002 and Intellisync Mobile Desktop files or add books to the Organizer .
T o install the Desktop Manager on your PC: 1. Insert the Rolodex ® Electronics Desktop Manager CD into the CD-ROM drive on y our PC. The Setup screen appears. If this screen DOES NO T launch automatically , fol- low these steps . • Go to Start | Run.
Bef ore you can synchroniz e records you m ust: 1. Install the Rolodex ® Electronics Desktop Manager onto your PC. See “ Installing the Rolodex ® Electronics Desktop Mana ger ” on page 41. 2. Connect the organizer to the PC using the seri- al cable pr ovided.
43 Intellisync f or Rolode x Electronics is the program that allows y ou to impor t, export or synchronize files between the PC organizer prog rams and y our Rolode x ® Electronics P ersonal Digital Assistant.
Configuring Y our Organizer Programs F or your organiz er data to be included in a synchro- nization, the organizer progr ams must first be aligned with your PC organiz er application. Y ou must select the organizer progr ams and the PC organizer appli- cations that you w ant to synchronize .
45 Export Expor ts data to your PC organiz er application from the organizer program on the organiz er . Synchr onize Synchronizes data between the organizer progr am on the organiz- er and your PC organiz er applica- tion.
Changing Adv anced Settings Each organizer progr am contains adv anced settings, such as confirmation, conflict resolution, and field mappings. These include program specific par ame- ters and fields to be mapped f or the data e xchange. Note: These settings vary by organiz er program.
47 5. Click OK to accept this file or folder . Click Cancel to map fields without refreshing the inf ormation from the file or folder . Click Help for additional inf or mation. Y ou see the Field Mapping dialog bo x. 6. Map the fields for the organizer program.
Y ou can synchronize personal inf or mation between the Desktop Manager on a PC and your organiz er , or you can mo v e a book to your organiz er . Note: Make sure the cab le is connected securely to both the PC and the organizer . T o transfer data from the Desktop Manager , f ollow these steps.
49 Note: F or proper synchronization, make sure that the organizer applications y ou want are selected in Intellisync. T ransferring Data W arning! PC organizer applications ma y hav e longer fields than the Rolode x ® Organizer can accept.
When you synchroniz e your data, records that w ere deleted either in your handheld organiz er or the Desktop Manager will be deleted in both. New records added in either , will now be added in both.
51 Y ou can lock y our handheld organizer so that only the Clock, Calculator and Con v er ter can be used without supplying the pass word. Note: Y ou do not need to set a pass word to use this organizer . W arning! Please k eep written records of your data.
52 Accessing P assw ord Pr otected Data When your pass word is activated, y ou hav e to unlock your handheld organiz er in order to access the phone records, schedules , todos, memos , anniversary and e xpense records. T o unlock your handheld organiz er , do the follo wing: 1.
Changing or Deactivating the P assw or d 1. Unlock y our handheld organizer . 2. T ap until you see HOME TIME. 3. T ap . 4. T o change your passw or d, enter a new pass- wor d, then tap ENTER. T o deactivate your pass word, tap ENTER without entering a password.
This organizer uses two CR-2032 lithium batteries. When you find the displa y becomes dim, please change the batteries. Note : Replace both batter ies at the same time. F ollow these steps to change the batteries. Before you f ollow these steps you should ha v e a small Phillips screwdriv er and the new batteries at hand.
