6 2.1 Installing ScanSnap "Installation" is the operation of copying the program file s supplied with ScanSnap to the hard disk of your computer, and creating the environm ent for using ScanSnap on the co mputer installed with the ScanSnap program files.

Move the side guides so that there is no sp ace between the document edges and the side guides. If there is a space between the document edges and the guid es, the scanned images may be skewed.

ScanSnap Manager is generally registere d as an icon on the Dock menu wh ich is in the middle of the bottom of the Mac OS X screen. The following menu appears when you press and hold the mouse button on the icon.

The larger the compression rate number is sp ecified, the higher the compression rate is set and the smaller the file size becomes.

54 ■ Skipping blank pages ScanSnap is abl e to r ecognize blank pa ges and remove them from the output data. When scanning documents in "Duplex" mode, both sides of th e documents are scanned regardless of whether or not their backsides are printed.

60 ■ Saving scanned images in multiple files ScanSnap can save scanned images in multiple PDF files with each file containi ng a preset number of pages. For example, you can scan a batch of filled forms and create a sepa rate file for each. To change the setting, follow the procedure below.

(When a hub is used, check the hub’s power supply.) Does the LED light blink? Disconnect and then re- connect the AC cable and AC adapter.
74 The scanning speed is very slow. Does your computer satisfy the recommende d system requirements? Confirm the system requiremen ts in " Before Installing ScanSnap" (page 6). Scanning speed will be slower whenever the recommended CPU and me mory requirements are not met.

Take particular care in cleaning the feed rollers since black debris on the rollers adversely affect the feed performance.
