1 1. Introduction Thank you for purchasing “ ScanSnap Upgrade ” product. So far ScanS nap has been goi ng through f rom fi-41 10EO X2, fi-51 10E OX and fi-51 10E OX2, applying new functions and add itional bundle software.

4 2. How to Inst all This chapter provides how t o inst all ScanSnap Upgrade product. ● Confirm that ScanSn ap Monitor (in case of fi -41 10EO X2) or ScanSnap Manager (in case of fi-51 10EO X) is installed beforehand. ● When using Windo ws 2000 or Windows XP , log on as a user with “Administrator” privilege.
5 2. Click [Install Product] button in “ScanSnap Setup” screen. 3. “W elcome to InstallShield Wizard ” screen appears. Then click [Next] button.
6 4. “License Agreement” scr een appears. Please read t he “License Agreement.” If you agree with them, click the [Y es] button. 5. In the “Choose Destinati on Location” screen, choose the installation directory and click the [Next] button.
7 6. Select an inst allation option among “T ypical (recommended )”, “Comp act” and “Custom” in “Setup T ype” scr een and click [Next] button.
8 8. After the inst allation is finished, t he “InstallShield Wizard Complete” screen will be displayed. Then click the [Finish] button. T o complete the installation, you have to restart your PC.
9 3. ScanSnap New Functions This chapter provides the det ails of new fu nctions added by the ScanSnap Upg rade. ● For the operation of the previ ous functions, refer to the manual or the oper ator’s guide attached the product.
10 Online Update “ScanSnap Icon” menu -[Help] / Can update the program to the latest version via the internet environment. 9 9 9 : A function n ewly provided by th e product.
11 3.2. How to setup the functions Settings of t he functions added by the update can be changed from the ScanSnap icon on the W indows task bar as before. 3.2.1. Menu Right-clicki ng the ScanSnap icon , the following menu appears. Setting... The “Scan and Save Settings” window appears.
12 3.2.2. Save and Scanning Settings When “Settings…” is selected, the following window appears... Y ou can c onfigure the save a nd scanning settings of the ScanSnap wi th the six tabs. The following describes the new setting items of each of the tabs.
13 [Save] t ab Rename file af ter scanning When checked, the “Save scanned image as” window appe ars. Y ou can c hange the folder to save the scanne d files, or rename files in this screen. ● The generated file is named a utomatically as specified in [Filename format …] in advance when it is saved.
14 [Scanning] t ab Clicking [Option ] button, the following window app ears. New.
15 Allow automatic image deskew This setting automatically detects sk ewed docum ents and corrects th em for the output data. Up t o +-5 degrees of skews can be corrected. This function judges a document ske w based o n the characters on the document.
16 Continue scanning af ter curre nt scanning is finished After scanni ng a batch of doc uments, a me ssage confirming whet her to continue scanning appea rs. T o continue scanning load anothe r batch of doc uments onto the scanner , and click the [ Continue scanning] button.
17 [File option] t ab By clicking [Option] butt on, when PDF (* .pdf) format is specified, the followi ng window ap pears. New.
18 Set a p assword for PDF file Y ou can set a password for a PDF file create d af ter scanning. It becom es impossible to open a password-protected file if you do not enter the password for that file. The enter password screen appears whenever the scanning is finis hed.
19 [Paper size] t ab [Custom...] button W ith this function, you ca n register up to five custom ized document sizes at the [Paper size:] m enu. Clicking this button disp lays the following setting window: <When adding a customized document size > 1.
20 Enter the document size : For fi-41 10EOX2 Width 55 - 210mm (2.17 - 8.26 inch) Length 90 - 360mm (3.55 - 14.17 inch) Enter the nam e for the custom document size in [Nam e:]. B The entered name is displayed in [Paper size:]. 3. T o complete the setting, click the [OK] button.
21 [Compression] t ab Enable High Compression When saving , it compresses the generated image in hi gher rate. It decreases the file size even sm aller compared to the ordinary c ompressions. ● This function compresses c haracters and ba ckgrounds on the document separ ately.
22 3.3. Saving Scan Settings Y ou can save and assign names t o the current settings i n ScanSnap Monito r or ScanSnap Manage r . W ith just a click of the ScanSnap icon, you can retrieve and u se the saved settings easily .
23 3. When you have finished the settings, click the [Save Current Setti ng…] button. Ö The “Save as” window a ppears. 4. Enter a suit able name, and click the [OK] button. Ö The current setting with th e entered na me is created in “Current Setting”.
24 3.3.2. Scanning with a Saved Scan Setting 1. Click the ScanSnap icon . Ö The list of saved settings appears. (The icon of the program that starts after sca nning appears on the left of the setting name.) 2. Select the scan setting to use. Ö A check mark appears on the selected settin g.
25 3.3.3. Renaming Scan Settings 1. Right-click the ScanSnap icon , and select "Settings...” . Ö The “Scan and Save Settings” window appears. 2. On [Current Setting], select the name of the setting you want to change. 3. Click the [Rename] button.
26 Y ou can also rename the setting from the “Settings M anagement” screen. Right-click the ScanSnap i con , and the “Settings Management” screen appears when you select it. Select the name you want to change, and cli ck the [Rename] button.” 3.
27 Y ou can also delete the setting from the “Settings M anagement” screen. Right-click the ScanSnap i con , and the “Settings Management” screen appears when you select it. Select the name you want to delete, and click the [Delete] button. 4.
28 3.4. Online Up date In an effort to im prove the usab ility and functionality of ScanSnap Manager/ScanSnap Monitor , program updates are carried out timely . From the ScanSnap icon m enu, you can detect automa tically wheth er t he latest program is available and update the p rogram.
29 If the program is already updated to the late st version, the message bel low appears. Click [OK] button to close the message. 3. Click [Y es] button. Ö The progr am is download ed, and a confir mati on message to start installation appears. 4. Click the [Inst all] button.
30 4. Carrier Sheet The Carrier Sheet is a sheet for loading doc ument specificall y designed for fi- 51 10EOX. The Carrier Sheet allows you to scan doc uments that cannot be scann ed as it is ; a doc.
31 4.1. Operation Flow This section describes the basic operation fl ow when scanning with the Ca rrier Sheet. 1. Insert the document in the Carrier Sheet. The loading method a nd ScanSnap Manager ’s settings differ according to the documents to be scanned.
32 4.2. Scanning Different Document T ypes The table below summ arizes the types of documen ts that can be scanned on this scanner . Media Paper commonly used in of fices, Post card, Business card, Photograph, Clipping Weight Up to127g/m 2 (Up to 34lb), Up to 63.
33 4.3. Loading Document s with the Carrier Sheet This section ex plains Loading D o cuments with the Carrier Sheet. There are two scan modes, depending on the type of do cument to be scanned, in the Carrier Sheet settings. ● Create facing p ages in one image : Scans a document larger than A4 size such as A3/B4/1 1 x 17.
34 4.3.1. “Create facing p ages in one image” This mode is for scanning a docum ent large r than A4 size, such as A3/B4/1 1 x 17. When you fold a docu m ent in two and scan it in duplex, an image with the both side image jo ined together is generated.
35 5. Set the Carrier Sheet onto the scanner . ● Place the top of the sheet with the black & white printed pat tern downwa rds, and load t he document in the direction of the arrow . ● When you load the Carrier Sheet, adjust the side guides so that it will no t skew .
36 In the “Carrier Sheet Settings” window , w hen “A utomatic Detection” in “Output image size” is selected, the generated image size ma y be smaller than the document.
37 4.3.2. “Create front and back images sep arately” This mode is for scanning documents such as photograp hs that you do not want to scratch, or clippings of information that are difficult to be loaded. 1. Right-click “ScanSnap Manager” icon on the task bar , and select “Carrier Sheet.
38 4. Load the Carrier Sheet onto the scanner . ● Place the top of the sheet with the black & white printed pat tern downwar ds, and load the document in the direction of the arrow . ● Load th e document so th at the back sid e faces up. ● When you load the Carrier Sheet, adjust the side guides so that the document inside will not skew .
39 If the following symptoms are observ ed, place a piece of white paper behind the document. ● The scanned document cannot be gen erated in a suitable size (when [Automatic Detection] is selected) ● A shadow appears on the edges of the document. ● Black lines appear around the docum ent that is clipped into a special shape.
40 4.4. Changing Carrier Sheet Settings The Carrier Sheet settings are configured in the “Carrier Sheet Settings” screen. “Carrier Sheet Settings” screen is found in the menu of the “ScanS nap Manager ic on” on the task bar . Right-click the icon, and when the menu appears, select “Carrier Sheet.
41 Mode Specifies the scanni ng method whe n you use the Car rier Sheet for sca nning. These are the following two modes. ● Create facing p ages in one image Scans a docum ent folded in t wo in duplex m ode and outputs an i mage of facing pa ges joining the fr ont and back images together .
42 Output Image Size Specifies an image size when generating a scanned image. Y ou can select it from the following docum ent sizes. Mode: “Create facing p ages in one image” Mode: “Create front.
43 [Add custom size] button Y ou can create up to five c ustom sizes. When you click the but ton, the followin g settings screen a ppears. <T o add custom size document s> 1. Click the [Add] button 2. The following screen appe ars. Enter the document sizes.
44 < T o delete custom size document s> 1. On the [Add or Remove custom sizes] screen, select the docum ent size you want to delete, and click the [Delete] button.
45 4.5. Cleaning Carrier Sheet While using the Carrier Sheet continuously , dirt and du st may stick onto the surface or the interior . When you use the Carrier Sheet conti nuously , please clean it regularly as that may be the cause of scanning error .
46 4.6. Purchasing the Carrier Sheet If the “Carrier Sheet” bundled in t his product cannot be used for scanni ng due to dam age or wear - and-tear , you can purchase just the Carrier Sheet separately . As a guideline, it is recommend e d to repl ace the Carrier Sheet every 500 scans.
47 5. Applications included This product include s the following software. ● CardMinder V2.0 (the latest version) An application f or managing business card image data scan ned by the ScanSnap as a database using the OCR technology . ● PDF Thumbnail View An application for viewing the PDF files with thumbnail on Explorer .
48 5.1.1. St art the PDF Thumbnail View PDF T humbnail V iew is disa bled as a defaul t. First, enable this function fo llowing the procedure below . 1. Click on the S tart menu and select [Programs] → [PDF Thumbnail V iew] and then [Configuration T o ol].
49 3. Select [Thumbnails] from the [V iew] menu. Ö The thum bnails of the PDF fi les are display ed. ● The thumbnails of PDF files are refres hed ev ery time the folder is opened. ● Images of the PDF files are temporarily d isplayed on the upper left side of the screen when refreshing the thumbnails.
