9 Learning the basics C onnec ting the wrist str a p Attach th e wrist strap to carry the camera an d help prevent the camera from droppin g and gettin g damaged. T o connect th e wrist strap: 1 Find the wri st strap th at came with you r came ra. 2 Thread the small loo ped end of the wrist strap throug h the wrist st rap eyelet on your camera.
10 Instal ling the ba tter y T o install the bat tery: 1 If the camera is turned on, press an d release the Power button on the to p of you r camera to turn o ff th e camer a. 2 Slide the battery/memor y card compa rtmen t cover open. 3 Push the battery lock lever to the side, then insert the battery into you r came ra.
11 3 Release the battery loc k lever . T he batt ery ejects slightly from the battery compartment. 4 Remove the batt ery . C onnecting the A C powe r adapter Use the AC power adapter to: ■ Charge th.
12 Installing the Se cure Digital (SD) memory card Y our cam era comes wit h a 32 MB or larger SD memor y card to store still pictures and video clips. The memor y card stores the image files whether the camera is turned on or off. Y ou can copy the files to a comput er and delete the files from th e memory card to free-u p space for new pictures.
13 Tu r n i n g o n y o u r c a m e r a T o t u r n o n y o u r c a m e r a : ■ Press and hold the Power button on the to p of your camera for about one secon d. The LED mo mentarily turns green, then orange, then the LED turns off wh en the camera turn s on.
14 Setting the date and t ime Set the da te and time the fi rst time you use y our camera or when you turn on your camera af ter leaving the batt ery out of the camera for an extended period of time. T o set the da te and time: 1 T urn the camera on. See “T urning on your camera” on page 13.
15 T o take your first picture: 1 W ith the camera power turn ed on, set the mode dial to Auto mode . 2 Use the LCD to compose your picture. Frame the subject with the z oom buttons. 3 Press the sh utter butt on halfway d own to auto matically focus the image.
16 5 Press and release the Po wer button on the top of your camera to turn off the camera. For more information about picture modes and option s, see “T aking pictures” on page 20 and see “Using pic ture modes” on page 33. V iewing pic tures on th e L CD After yo u have taken yo ur first pictur e you can view it on yo ur camera’ s LCD.
17 Recording your first movie The Movie mode lets you record video c lips at 320 x 240 p ixels. Sound is als o recorded with the video cl ip. Use the LCD to compos e the vi deo. T o shoot your fi rst video clip: 1 W ith the cam era power turned on , turn the mode dial to th e Movie mode .
18 V iewing movies on the L CD Use the Playback mod e to view video clips on the LCD. T o view video cli ps on the LCD: 1 W ith the cam era power turned on , turn the mode dial to the Playback mode . The last video clip yo u recorded is displayed on t he LCD.
19 Deleting p ictures and movies Y ou can erase the last picture or movie you took w ith the Quick Delete feature. T o delete a pictur e or movie in the Quick Delete mode: 1 W ith th e camera power turned on, turn the mode dial to on e of the pho tograph y modes.
20 U sing y our camera Ta k i n g p i c t u r e s Y our camera is eq uipped with both an op tical viewfinder and a 2.0” full-color LCD to co mpose pictures. The LCD helps you accurately compose pictures. However , the LCD uses batter y power w hen it is turned on.
21 T o use the vi ewfinder to take pictures: 1 T urn the camera on. See “ T urning o n your camera” on page 13. 2 T urn the mo de dial to a pho tography mode. 3 If the LCD is turned on, press the button to turn off the LCD. Press the button on e or more times, u ntil LCD monito r Off appears.

26 Setting the focus Y ou can s et the camera to focus on subjects w ith auto focus , macro focu s, infin ity focus, 3M focus fixed at 3 meters, or 1M focus fixed at 1 meter . If you chan ge the Focus mode, the camera retains the focus settings when the c amera is turned off.

30 Higher reso lution and higher qu ality pictures offer the best photographic q uality but produce larger image file sizes. Bec ause of this, fewer pi ctures fit on a memo ry card. Use high resolution and high quali ty settings for pict ures th at you plan t o print an d for situation s that require the finest detail.
31 6 Press the / buttons to highligh t Qual ity , then press the Set button. The picture quality options are displayed. 7 Press the / buttons to h ighlight the picture quality option, then press the Set button. 8 Press the Menu b u t t o n t o e x i t t h e M e n u m o d e .
32 4 Press the buttons to compose the picture: ■ Press the button to enla rge the subject on the LCD for a more close-up pi cture. The zoom stat us meter indicates the setting s for the dig ital and optical zo om. ■ Press the button to reduce the subject on the LCD for a wider angle picture.

34 T aking pictures i n the A uto mode The Auto mode lets your camera make all the correct settings for your pictures. In Auto mode the shutter speed, aperture setting, focus, flash (if required), white balance, and sys tem meter ing method are fully controlled by your camera.
35 T aking pictures in the Sh utter speed priority mode When you take pictures in the S hutter speed p riority mode ( Tv ), the camera gives priority t o the shutter speed. The camera auto matically sets th e aperture value base d on the shutter speed setting.
36 4 Compose the picture. 5 Focus the camera an d take the pi cture. S ee “Setting the focus” on page 26. T aking pictures i n the Aperture p riority mode When you take pictures in th e Aperture p riority mode ( Av ), the camera gives p riority t o the aperture sett ing.
37 ■ If the shutter s peed value is displayed i n white the exposu re setting is correct for a pictur e. ■ If the combined aperture and sh utter sp eed se tting does not provide eno ugh light for a good p icture exposu re, the s hutter speed value is displayed in red.

While in zoom view , the green frame indicate s what part of the pict ure you are viewing . ■ Press the button twice to display the pic ture at 4x the normal size. 42 4 Press the nav igati on butto n to highlight the Func tion tab. 5 Press the naviga tion but ton to highlight Voice Memo , then press the Set button. Th e V oice Memo o ptions are displayed. 6 Press the / buttons to highlight On , then pres s the Set button.
43 Deletin g images Y ou can dele te the last image you took in the Playbac k mode . T o delete ima ges in the P layback mod e: 1 T urn the camera on. See “T urning on your camera” on page 13. 2 T urn the mode dia l to the Playback mode . The last image you took is displayed on t he LCD.

45 T o set the se lf-timer: 1 T urn the camera on. See “T urning on your camera” on page 13. 2 T urn the mode dial to one of the ph otogra phy modes. 3 Press the button to s elect the Self-timer mode. Press the Self-timer button one or more time s, unt il th e icon for the self- timer settin g you want to use is d isplayed.

47 Use Exp osure com pensatio n/Backli ght corre ction sett ings whe n the difference in brightness between the su bject and th e background subject is no t well balanced.

50 7 If you highlight ed the Single or All opti on, press th e / buttons to highlig ht Set , then press the Set butt on. The Locked mode icon indicates t he image is locked. - OR - If you highlight ed the Select option , press t he / / naviga tion buttons to select a picture th umbnail view , then press the button.

55 LCD Brightness Sets the LCD br ightness lev el. The LCD brightness adjustments r ange from -5 to +5. Press the button to brighten the LCD . Press the button to darken the LCD . Digita l Zoom Sets the camera to tak e digital z oom pictures as much as 4 times the optical zoom capabilities.
56 Inter va l/Coun t Sets the camera to aut omatically take pictures at a fixed t ime inter val f or a se t number of cycles. Press the / buttons to change the inter v al settings. 1 Min. – Records pictures in 1 minute intervals. 3 Min. – Records pictures in 3 minute intervals.
57 Meteri n g Sets the camera light meter ing method f or calculating the exposure. Multi – Measur es the entire image area to calculate the pi cture exposure. Spot – Measures a s mall portion of the center of the image area to calculate the picture exposure.
