Refer to the IMPOR T ANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS provided with this product and save them for future reference. 9 B EFORE Y OU B EGIN P ARTS C HECKLIST Make sure your pac k age includes the items shown here. T ELEPHONE J ACK R EQUIREMENTS T o use this phone, you need an RJ1 1C type modular telephone jac k, whic h might look lik e the one pictured here, installed in your home.
10 I NST ALLA TION • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never install telephone jac ks in wet locations unless the jac k is specifically designed for wet locations. • Never touc h non-insulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.
11 I NST ALLING THE P HONE 1 . Choose an area near an electrical outlet and telephone wall jac k (RJ1 1C). 2. Plug the AC power conver ter into an electrical outlet and the DC connector into the power jac k on the bac k of the base. CAUTION: Use only the A TLINKS USA, Inc.
12 6. Plug the c harge cradle power conver tor into an electrical outlet, and place the extra handset in the c harge cradle. The c harge indicator turns on to indicate the bat tery is c harging. 7 . Allow the handsets to c harge on a flat surface, suc h as a desk or table top, for 16 hours prior to first use.
13 L ANGUAGE 1 . Make sure your phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode). 2. P ress the mute/program button until SET LANGUAGE 1ENG 2 FRA 3ESP shows in the display . 3. Use the touc h-tone pad or the cid/vol ( or ) but ton on your handset to select 1ENG, 2FRA, or 3ESP .
14 NOTE: If you make a mistake, press the flash/delete button to erase the wrong character(s). NOTE: Press exit/answerer button to keep the previous setting and return to the main menu screen. 3. Press mute/program but ton to save the entered name and return to the main menu.
15 SET RINGER TONE 1 2 3 4 5 6 R INGER T ONE Make sure your handset is at the main menu. Y ou may c hoose from six dif ferent ringer tones. 1 . Make sure your phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode). 2. Press the mute/program but ton until SET RINGER T ONE 1 2 3 4 5 6 shows in the display .

18 3. Repeat steps one through three in the Handset R egistration section. H ANDSET D E - REGISTRA TION Deregistration cancels a handset ’ s registration. If you do not know a handset ’ s name, you should deregister the handset according to the steps below.
19 NOTE: Press the exit/answerer once to keep the previous setting and return to the main menu screen. 4. Press the mute/program but ton to confirm the deregistration. HANDSET # DERE GISTERED shows in the display . G LOBAL D EREGISTRA TION If one or more handsets becomes lost, you should de-register all handsets to ensure proper system operation.
20 3. Use the touc h-tone pad on your handset to enter 1YES or 2NO , or use the cid/vol ( or ) but ton on your handset to scroll to your selection. 2NO is the default set ting. NOTE: If you choose YES all settings in the programmable menu return to the factory default settings.
21 3. Use the cid/vol ( or ) to scroll to your selection. 4. Press the mute/program but ton to save your selection. Y ou will hear a confirmation tone, and the ringer set ting displays for two seconds. NOTE: If you turn the ringer OFF , the ringer off icon shows in the display .
22 A NSWERING A C ALL 1 . When the phone rings, press the talk/callbac k button on the handset. 2. When finished, press the talk/callbac k button ag ain to hang up. C ALL T IMER After you press talk/callbac k on the handset the built-in call timer shows in the display and counts the length of time of the call in minutes and seconds.
23 M UTE T o have a pri vate, of f-line conversation use the mute feature. The par ty on the other end of the line cannot hear you, but you can still hear them. 1 . During a phone conversation or an intercom call, press the mute/ program but ton on the handset.
24 4. The receiving handset is paged, and only the recei ving handset emits a paging tone. The following information shows in the display: SENDING HANDSET RECEIVING HANDSET When the talk/callbac k or page/int on the recei ving handset is pressed, the page is answered.
25 T RANSFERRING C ALLS This feature lets you transfer calls between handsets in T ALK mode. 1 . Press the page/int button to put the call on hold. 2. Enter the handset number you w ant to transfer the call to, and the receiving handset is paged. During the page, a page tone is emitted on the receiving handset.
26 3. Press the talk/callbac k button on the sending handset to transfer the call. Note: 1) If talk/callbac k but ton on the sending handset is pressed before the page/int or talk/callbac k button is .
27 3. Enter the handset number you want to intercom with, the receiving party is paged. NOTE: T o cancel the page, press the page/int button again or press the exit/ answerer button. THE SENDING P ARTY THE RECEIVING P ARTY 4. When the receiving party answers the page, the intercom is acti vated.

Or the calling party may press the talk/callback button to transfer the call to the receiving party who may speak to the external caller independently .
30 S TORING A N AME AND N UMBER IN M EMORY 1 . Mak e sure the phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode). 2. Press the mem but ton. 3. Press the desired memory location but ton (0 1 through 50) or , use the cid/vol ( or ) but ton on handset to select the memory location.

35 If you are not at home or cannot answer , your telephone ’ s Caller ID memory automatically stores the call number , date, time, phone number , and name for the 40 most recent calls received so you can see who called while you were unavailable. Caller ID records are stored sequentially , in the order they are received.
36 • NEW and REPT appear s at the top right corner of the display for all calls received more than once whic h have not been reviewed. T RANSFERRING CID R ECORDS TO M EMORY Y ou may transfer a Caller ID record to your phone ’ s memory . NOTE: It is important that you format CID records correctly before storing in memory .
37 D IALING A CID N UMBER While reviewing Caller ID records, you may dial the phone number showing in the display . 1 . Make sure the phone is OFF (not in talk mode). 2. Press cid/v ol ( or ) button on the until the desired CID record is displayed.
38 4. Press the talk/callbac k button on the handset. The number dials automatically . NOTE: If the number is corrupted, such as a number in a name or an alphabetical character in a number , an error tone sounds from the handset and the number cannot be dialed.

40 A NSWERING S YSTEM S ET U P This section shows you how to set up your answering system to receive incoming calls and record messages. T URNING THE A NSWERING S YSTEM O FF AND O N 1 . If the answering system is ON, press the answer on/off but ton on the base to turn it off .
41 S PEAKER V OLUME Press the v olume ( or ) buttons on the side of the base to adjust the speaker volume to a comfortable level. P ress the ( ) to increase the volume and the ( ) to de-crease the v olume. V olume level displays when you press the volume but ton.
42 R EVIEWING THE A NNOUNCEMENT Press and release announce but ton to review your outgoing announcement. Press the play/stop but ton to stop. M EMO Use the Memo feature to leave a message for yourself and/or family members. 1 . Press and hold the memo but ton.
43 T o erase all pr eviously review ed messages: When the base is in standby mode, press and hold the erase but ton for three seconds to erase all previously played messages. Y ou will hear a confirmation tone, and the message indicator flashes the number or messages not yet reviewed.
44 S ETTING THE S ECURITY C ODE FOR R EMOTE A CCESS The product provides you with the ability to access the answering system from a tone dialing telephone in another location. The security code is required for remote access, and it prevents unauthoriz ed access to your answering system.
45 A CCESSING THE A NSWERING S YSTEM WITH THE C ORDLESS H ANDSET M ESSAGE P LA YBACK 1 . Make sure your handset is in standby mode. 2. Press the exit/answerer but ton to access the answering system. The display shows ANSWERER REMO TE ACCESS . 3. Press the play/stop but ton to play messages, or press exit/answerer button to return to standby mode.
46 M EMORY F ULL When you access your answering system remotely , and the answering system ’ s memory is full, the system answer s after 1 0 rings, beeps, and waits for you to enter the 3-digit security code. Y ou have 1 0 seconds to enter the security code before the phone disconnects.
47 R EPLACING THE B A TTERY CAUTION: T o reduce the risk of fire or personal injury , use only the battery 5-2548, which is compatible with this unit. 1 . Make sure the telephone is OFF (not in T ALK mode) before you the replace bat tery . 2. Remo ve the battery compar tment door .
48 H EADSET AND B EL T C LIP I NST ALLATION C ONNECTING AN O PTIONAL H EADSET TO THE H ANDSET For hands free con ver sation. 1 . Insert the headset plug into the headset jac k. 2. Adjust the headset to rest comfortably on the ear . 3. Move the microphone to appro ximately 2 to 3 inc hes from your mouth.
49 D ISPLA Y M ESSAGES The following indicators show the status of a message or of the unit. This means the ringer is OFF , and the handset will not ring when you receive an incoming call. ENTER NAME Prompt telling you to enter the name in one of the 50 memory locations.
50 CONFERENCE Indicates you are conferencing with another handset to an external par ty . ANSWERER Indicates you are now accessing the base answering REMO TE A CCESS system remotely . MUTE ON Indicates you are pressing the mute/program but ton to prevent the caller on the line from hearing an outside conversation.
51 A NSWERING S YSTEM D ISPLA Y M ESSAGES 0-59 T otal number of messages. CL (blinking) The voice time/day stamp needs set. -- Answerer off . An (blinking) Currently answering a call. F (blinking) Memory is full. LA (Line Access) External line remote answerer .
52 • Make sure the battery pac k is installed correctly . • Did the handset beep when you pressed the talk/callbac k button? Did the c harge indicator on the base turn on? The bat tery may need to be c harged. • Place handset in cradle for at least 20 seconds to reset.
53 Charge indicator on the base flashes • Pro vided your phone company of fer s voice message service and you subscribe to it, the c harge indicator on the base flashes when the phone is not in use to indicate there is a message w aiting. It stops flashing af ter the message has been reviewed.
54 B A TTERY S OLUTIONS If you experience any of the following problems, even af ter fully rec harging the bat tery , you may need to replace the battery pac k: • Shor t talk time • P oor sound quality • Limited range • Charge indicator fails to light when the handset is placed in the base or c harge cradle.
55 • Atmospheric conditions, suc h as strong storms. • Base is installed in the basement or lower floor of the house. • Base is plugged into AC outlet with other electronic devices. • Baby monitor is using the same frequency . • Handset battery is low .
