INTRODUCTION 3 Introduction Thank you for choosing Harman Kardon! With the purchase of a Harman Kardon A VR 2000 you are about to begin many years of lis- tening enjoyment. T he A VR 2000 has been cus- tom designed to provide all the excitement and detail of movie sound tracks and every nuance of musical selections .
4 SAFETY INFORMA TION Safety Information Important Safety Information V erify Line V oltage Before Use Y our A VR 2000 has been designed for use with 220-240-V olt A C current. Connection to a line voltage other than that for which it is intended can create a safety and fire hazard and may damage the unit.

12 REMO TE CONTROL FUNCTIONS Remote Control Functions IMPORT ANT NO TE: T he A VR 2000’ s remote may be programmed to control up to seven devices , including the A VR 2000. Before using the remote , it is important to remember to press the Input Selector button 4 that corre- sponds to the unit you wish to operate .
REMO TE CONTROL FUNCTIONS 13 I Direct Button: Press this button when the tuner is in use to start the sequence for direct entry of a station’ s frequency . After pressing the button simply press the proper Numeric K eys G to select a station (See page 29 for more information on the tuner).

SY STEM CONFIGURATION 17 System Configuration When all audio , video and system connections have been made , there are a few configuration adjustments that must be made . A few minutes spent to correctly configure and calibrate the unit will greatly add to your listening experience .
18 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration First T urn On Once the speak ers have been placed in the room and connected, the remaining steps are to program the system configur ation memories . With the A VR 2000 two kind of memories are used, those associated individually with the input selected, e .
SY STEM CONFIGURATION 19 With the A VR 2000 turned on, follow these steps to configure the speak ers: 1. Put the A VR 2000 in the Dolby Pro Logic mode by pressing the Surround Mode Selector button 7 o.
20 SY STEM CONFIGURATION System Configuration T o assist in making these settings, the icons in the Speaker/Channel Input Indicators P will change as the speak er type is selected at each position. When only the inner icon box is lit, the speak er is set for “small.

24 OPERA TION Operation Surround Mode Chart MODE FEA TURES DELA Y TIME RANGE DOLBY DIGIT AL Available only with digital input sources encoded with Dolby Digital data. It provides Center: 0 ms – 5 ms up to five separate main audio channels and a special dedicated Low F requency Effects Initial Setting – 0 ms channel.
OPERA TION 25 Operation Surround Mode Selection One of the most important features of the A VR 2000 is its ability to reproduce a full multi- channel surround sound field from digital sources , analog matrix surround encoded pro- grams and standard stereo or even mono pro- grams .
26 OPERA TION Operation or a PCM audio track from DVD , use the Logic 7 C or Cinema mode . F or stereo or surround encod- ed pure music recordings use the Logic 7 M or Music mode for a wider front sound stage (see Surround Mode Chart page 24).

28 OPERA TION Operation Output Level T rim Adjustment Normal output level adjustment for the A VR 2000 is established using the test tone, as outlined on pages 21 and 22. In some cases , however , it may be desir able to adjust the output levels using program material such as a test disc, or a selection you are familiar with.
