4 Maintaining your computer Cleaning procedures Keeping your computer system free o f dust, dirt, and heat wil l prolong its life. ● Dust, pet hair, and other particles can build up, creating a bl anket effect; as a result, compo nents can overheat or, in the case of the keyboard and mouse, not work smoothly and effectiv ely.
Cleaning the keyboard and mouse When cleani ng the keyboard k eys, use a low setting on a battery-powered v acuum cleaner , to avoi d removing key cap s and spr ings.
5 Troubleshooting Refer to the documentation provided by the product manufactur er for information about peripheral-s pecific problems, s uch as issu es with a monitor or a printer. The following tables present some issues you might encounter while installing, startin g up, or using your comput er and possible solutions.

Type Device Manager into the Start Search box, and then click Device Manager to open the Device Manager window.
Software program and hardware driver reinstallation If any of your fa ctory-installed software pro grams or har dware drivers are dama ged, you can reinstall it by usin g the Recovery Manager program (select models only).
