Software for Mac computers HP Utility for Ma c Use the HP Utility to set up prod uct features that are not avai lable in th e printer driver. You can use the HP Util ity when the product use s a universal serial bus (USB) cable or is connected to a TCP /IP-based network.
Print wit h Mac Cancel a pri nt job with a Mac If the print job is currently printing, ca ncel it by pressi ng the Cancel button on the pr oduct control panel. NOT E: Pressing the Cancel button clears the job that the p roduct is cu rrently processing.

Basic print tasks with Windows The m ethods to ope n the pri nt dialog fr om software programs can vary. T he proced ures that follow includ e a typical method. Som e softwar e programs d o not hav e a File menu. Se e the doc umentation for your softwa re program t o learn how to ope n the print dialog.
Get help for any printing option with Wi ndows 1. Click the Help button to open the onl ine Help. Change th e number o f print copies with Wind ows 1. On the File menu in the so ftware program, cli ck Pr int . 2. Select th e product, a nd then sel ect the nu mber of co pies.
2. Select the produc t, and then click th e Properties or Prefer ences button. 3. Click t he Printin g Shortcuts tab. 4. Select one of the s hortcuts, a nd then click th e OK button. NOT E: When yo u select a shortcut, th e corresp onding settings change on the other tabs in the pri nter driv er.
Create printing shortcuts 1. On the Fil e menu in th e software prog ram, click Print . 2. Select the prod uct, and t hen clic k the Properties or Prefer ences butto n.
4. Select an existin g shortcut as a base . NOT E: Alwa ys s elect a shor tcut b efore adjusti ng any of t he settings o n the right si de of the sc reen. If you ad just the settings and then selec t a shortcut, or if you sele ct a different shortcut, all your adj ustments a re lost.

Scan settings Scanner resolution and colo r If you are printing a scanned ima ge, and the qua lity is not what y ou expected, you might have sele cted a reso lution or c olor setti ng in the sc anner softw are that does not match your ne eds.

Set up fax Install and connect the hardware Connect fax to a telephone line The product is an analog device. HP re commends usi ng the product on a dedic ated analog teleph one line. NOT E: Some count ries/regio ns might requir e an adapter to the pho ne cord that came wi th the product.

Set up fax with a n extension phone With th is setting tur ned on, you can alert the pr oduct to pick up the incom ing fax call by pressing 1- 2-3 sequent ially on th e telephon e keypad.

NOT E: Make sure that the default media size settin g matches the size of the med ia that is loaded in the tray.
5. Use the ar row buttons to selec t the Of f , Soft , Medium , or Loud setting. 6. Press the OK butt on to save the se lection. Set stam p-rece ived faxes The produc t prints the sender id entification inf ormation at the top of each re ceived fax.

Quiet mode setting s This pr oduct has a quiet mo de that re duces noise during pri nting. Whe n quiet mode is turned on, the produc t prints at a slower speed. NOT E: Quiet m ode reduces th e product p rint speed, which migh t improve print qua lity.

4. Gently rock the prin t cartridge from front to back to dist ribute the toner even ly inside the cartridg e. 5. Insert the pr int cartridge in the product and close the print-cart ridge door . CAUTION: If toner gets on your clothing , wipe it off w ith a dry cloth and wash clothing in cold water.
Replace the pick up roller Normal use with g ood media causes we ar. The us e of poor m edia might r equire mor e freque nt replacem ent of the pickup roller . If the product regularly mispicks (no media feeds th rough), yo u might ne ed to chang e or clean the pickup roller.
3. Release the small, wh ite tabs on each side of the p ickup roller , and rotate the pic kup roller to ward the front. 4. Gently pull the pickup r oller up and out. 5. Position the new pickup ro ller in the slot . The cir cular and rectangu lar slots on each side prev ents you from ins talling the roller incorre ctly.
