SIM NOTE: The SIM is provided by the en d-user as a security measure for the WWAN modul e. The SIM should be remove d, placed into a static-dissipa tive container, a nd then replac ed when the co mputer is reassembled. Before r emoving the SIM, foll ow these steps: 1.

7. Detach the adh esive strip (3) that secures the di splay panel cable t o the display panel. 8. Disconnect th e display panel cab le (4) from the display panel. 9. Remove the display panel. Reverse this procedure to insta ll the display bezel and panel.
2. Disconnect the webcamera modu le cable (2) from the webcam era module. 3. Remove the webcamera mod ule. Reverse this procedure to in stall the webcamera module.
WLAN module Description Spare part number WLAN module for use in H P 3115m models: Ralink 3592BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter 630813-001 Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module (802.
2. Remove the service cover (3) by lifti ng it straight up. 3. Remove the service cover. The service cover is availa ble using spare part number 659503-001. 4. Disconnect th e WLAN antenna ca bles (1) from the terminals on the WLAN module. NOTE: The #1 WLAN antenna cable is con nected to the WLAN modu le #1 terminal.
6. Remove the WLAN modu le by pulling the module awa y from the slot at an angle (3) . NOTE: WLAN module s are designed with a no tch (4) to prevent incorrect insertion into the memory module sl ot.
WWAN module NOTE: This section applies only to computer models equipped with an Intel pro c essor. Description Spare part number HP hs2340 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Module for use in HP 3115m models 6321.
3. Remove the WWAN module by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle (3) . NOTE: WWAN modules are designed with a notch (4) to prevent in correct insert ion into the memory module sl ot.
RTC battery Description Spare part number For use only on computer models with WWAN compatibility 664994-001 For use only on computer models without WWAN compatibility 599516-001 Before r emoving the RTC bat t ery, foll ow these steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer.
3. Use a thin, non-con d uctive tool to remove the RTC battery from the so cket on the system board. Reverse this procedure to install the RTC battery on computer mode ls with WLAN capability. When installing the RTC battery, make sure the “+” sign faces up.
Hard dr ive NOTE: The hard drive spare part kit do es not incl ude the hard drive bracket, connector cable, isolators, or screws . These componen ts are included in th e Hard Drive Hard ware Kit, spare p art number 664913-0 01. Description Spare part number Hard drives: 500-GB, 5400-rpm, SATA, 7.
4. Slide the hard drive (4) up and to left at an angle a nd out of the hard drive bay. 5. If it is necessar y to replace the co nnector cabl e (1) , the scr ews (2 ) , the bracket (3) , or the isolators (4) , remove and repla ce the components.

3. Remove the rear corner covers (3) . The rear corner cove rs are included in the Rubber Kit, spare part number 664996-001 . 4. Remove the three Phillips PM2.0×5.7 screws t hat secure the keyboa rd to the computer. 5. Rest and secure the computer on its right side.
7. Insert a screwdriver or similar thin too l into th e keyboard release openin g, and then press on the back of the keyboa rd until the keyboard disen gages from the computer.
11. Remove the keyboard (3) . Reverse this procedure to insta ll the keyboard. Component replacement procedures 51.
Display assembly NOTE: The display assembly subco mponents ar e sp ared as individual components. Before removing the display assembly subc omponents, follow the se steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer. If you are unsure whether th e computer is off or in Hibern ation, turn the computer on, and th en shut it down thr ough the operating system.
5. Remove the display assembly (2) . NOTE: See Display panel on page 35 and Webcamera module on page 36 for display bezel, display panel, and webcamera module removal procedures. 6. If it is necessary to replace the hinges: a. Remove the display assembly.
e. Remove the hinges (2) . The h inges are available in the Display Hinge Kit, spa re part number 659499-00 1. 7. If it is necessary to replace the display panel cable: a. Remove the display assembly. b. Remove the display bezel. c. Remove the display pane l.
g. Remove the display pane l cable (3) . The display pane l cable is available in the Display Cable Kit, spare part numb er 659498-001. 8. If it is necessary to replace the wi reless antenna cables and transceivers: a. Remove the display assembly. b. Remove the display bezel.
i. Remove the wireless ante nna cables and transceive rs (6) . The WLAN anten na are available in the Wirele ss Antenna Kit, spare p art number 659492-001.
Remove th e top cov er: 1. Close the computer. 2. Turn the computer upsid e down, with the front toward you. 3. Remove the seven Phillip s PM2.5×7.0 screws that secure the top cover to the computer. 4. Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you.
7. Remove the four Phillips PM2. 5×7.0 screws that secure the top cover to the computer. 8. Lift the rear edge of the top cover (1) until the left and right sides disengag e from the base enclosure . 9. Remove the top cover (2) . Reverse this procedure to insta ll the top cover.
3. Disconnect th e power from the c omputer by firs t unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unpl ugging the AC adap ter from the comput er. 4. Remove the batt ery (see Battery on page 33 ), and then remove the following co mponents: a.

Heat sink Description Spare part number Heat sink (includes replacement thermal material) 664999-001 NOTE: To proper ly ventilate the comput er, allow at least 7.6 cm (3 in) of clearance on the left side of the computer. The computer uses an electric fan for ventilation.
NOTE: The thermal material mu st be thoroughly cleaned from the surfaces of the heat sink and the system board components each time the heat sink is removed. Re placement thermal material is included with the heat sink and system board spare part kits.
5 Computer Setup (BIOS) and Advanced System Diagnostics in Windows 7 Using Computer Setup Computer Setup, or Basic Input/Ou tput System (BIOS), controls communication betwe en all the inpu t and output devices on the system (such as disk drives, d isplay, keyboard, mouse, an d printer).
To exit Computer Setup menu s, choose one of the following method s: ● To exit Computer Setup menus without saving your chan ges: Click the Exit icon in the lower-left corn er of the screen, and then follow the o n-screen instructions.
Updating the BIOS Updated versions of the BIOS ma y be avail able on the HP website. Most BIOS update s on the HP website are packaged in compressed files called SoftP aqs . Some download packa ges contain a file named Read me.txt, which contains information regarding installing and troubleshooting the file.
NOTE: If you connect your comp uter to a networ k, con sult the network administrator before installing any software upd ates, especially system BIOS up dates. BIOS installation procedures vary . Follow any instructions that are displayed on the scree n after the download is complete.
To start Advanced System Diagnostics: 1. Turn on or restart the compu ter. While the “Press the ESC ke y for Startup Me nu” message is displayed in the lo wer-left corner of the screen , press esc . When the Startup Menu is displayed, press f2 . 2.

8 Backup and recovery in Windows 7 To protect you r information, use Windows Backup and Restor e to back up individu al files and folder s, back up your entire hard drive (s elect models only), cr eate syst em repair discs (select models only) with an optional external optical drive, or create system res tore points.
Creating recovery media with HP Recovery Disc Creator HP Recovery Disc Creator is a software program th at offers an alternative way to create recover y media. After you successfull y set up the computer, you ca n create recovery media usin g HP Recovery Disc Creator.
NOTE: DVDs and DVDs with doub le-layer (DL) su pport store more information than CDs, so using them for backup reduces the number of recovery discs required.
CAUTION: Using Startup Repair completely er ases hard drive con tents and reformats the hard drive. All files you ha ve created and an y softwa re installed on the computer are permane n tly removed.

9 Backup and recovery in Windows 8 To protect you r information, use Windows Backup and Restor e to back up individu al files and folder s, back up your entire hard drive, crea te system repair media (select mo dels only) by using an optional external optical drive, or create system restore points.
To create a backup using Backup and Restore: NOTE: Be sure that the computer is con nected to AC power before you start the backup process. NOTE: The backup process may ta ke over an hour, depending on file size and the sp eed of the computer.
3. If the Windows partition an d the HP Recovery pa rtition ar e listed, restar t the computer. After Windows has loaded, p ress and hold the shift key while clicking Restart . 4. Select Troubleshoot , select Advance d Options , and then select Automatic Repair .
