1 Getting started Use this s ection to get familiar w ith camera controls, se t up your digital ca mera for use, and begin taking pict ures. Camera top and back 3 4 5 6 7 10 11 2 1 8 9 1 Power light.

Before taking pictures Complete the f o ll owing procedure s before taking pict ures or recording vi deo clips.
Choose the la nguage Use to choose the language yo u want, then press . To change the l anguage lat er, use the Camera Setup Menu (see “ Using the Camera Setu p Menu” on page 25 ). Set the region Along with the l anguage settin g, the region setting determines th e default dat e format.
Install and fo rmat an optional memor y card This camera supports standa rd, high speed, and hi gh capacity Secure Digit al (SD and SDHC) memory cards, 32MB to 8GB. 1. Turn off the camera and open the Battery/ Memory Card door. 2. Insert the memory card in the smaller slot as shown.
Windows: 1. Close all program s and temporarily disa ble any virus prote ction software. 2. Insert the HP Photosmart Software CD into t he CD drive and foll ow the on-screen instructions. If the installation screen does not appear, cli ck Start , click Run , type D: Setup.
2 Taking pictures and recording video clips You can take p ictures and record video clips when you are in Picture Capture . Slide to to take pictures or record video clips. Th e Image Di splay resembles the followi ng: 1 Picture Capture indicator . 2 12 Pictures remaining count.
Recording video clips Your camera allows you t o record video clip s without sound. 1. Slide to , then press . 2. In the Picture Capture Menu , use to highlig ht Shooting Mod e , then press . 3. In the Shooting Mode menu, use to highl ight Video , press , then hold down until the menu disappear s.
3 Setting options for taking pictures and recording video clips Your camera's defaul t settings work well for most shooting situations. For some situations, howe ver, the features d escribed in this chapter can i mprove the pictu res you take and the video clips you record.
Using the Picture Capture Menu The Picture Cap ture Menu allows you to adjust camera setti ngs that affect the characteristics of the pictures yo u capture. 1. Slide to , then press . 2. Use to h ighlight an option, then press to display the option’s menu.
Date & Time Imprint —Imprints date in lower left corne r of pictures only. The setting remains in effect until it is changed, even when you turn off the camera. • Off (Default)—No date or time imprinted on the image. • Date Only —Date permanently imprinted.
4 Reviewing images and video clips You can review and manipula te images and video cli ps in Playback as described here. 1. Slide to . 2. Use to scroll through your images and video cl ips. Press to view vide o clips; press to pause a clip. When paused, use to scroll through the indi vidual frames; press to resume playing th e video.
Deleting images To delete a disp layed image during Playback : 1. Press . 2. Use to se lect an option , then press . • This Imag e —Deletes the image or vid e o clip. • All Except Favorites —Deletes all i mages except those tagg ed as Favorite s .
Removing red eyes When you select Re move Red Eyes , the camera processes the current pi cture to remove red e yes from the subjects. Remove R ed Eyes is only avail able for picture s taken with a fla sh. NOTE: To prevent red eyes in images, se e “ Flash Setting—Red- Eye” on page 10 .
1. While in Playback , use to display an image you want to tag as a Favorite . 2. From the Playback Menu , select Favori tes , then select This I mage . To untag the image as a Favorite , press . 3. For each additional image you want to tag as a Favori te , use to display the image, then repeat Step 2.
5 Transferring and printing images Regularly transferring im ages to your computer and delet ing them from the memo ry card will reduce the time it t a kes to turn on your camera, to review images, and to transfer images. You can tra nsfer pictures and vi deo clips with or withou t the HP Photosmart Software that came with your camera.
3. Connect the came ra and computer using t he USB cable that came wi th your camera. 4. Turn on the camera. When the Image Displ ay indicates that the ca mera is connected to t he computer, follow the instructions on the co mputer screen. For more inform ation, see the Help fe ature in the HP Photos mart Software.
Using a memory card reader You can put your camera’s opti onal memory card i nto a (separately pu rchased) memory card reader. Some computers and HP Photos mart printers have built-in memo ry card slots which act as a memo ry card reader.
4. When the Image Di splay on the camera show s an image: • If you want to print one or more images, use to display an imag e you want to print, use to specify the n umber of copies, then press . In the Print Options menu, highlight Print This Image N o w , and press .

Buying prints online You can mark image s you want to ord er as prints. The next time you connect the cam era to a computer with the H P Photosmart Soft ware installed, you can orde r prints of the marked imag es online. 1. While in the Photosmart Express Menu , use to highlight Buy Prints Online , then press .
Sending images to online destinations After you have set up onli ne destinations in the camera, you can mark images to be sent to these custom d estinations the next time you connect your camera t o your computer. 1. While in the Photosmart Express Menu , use to highlight Share , then press .
7 Using the Camera Setup Menu The Camera Setup Me nu allow s you to set preferences fo r the camera’s beha vior. The Camera Setup Me nu is available from the Picture Capture and Playback menus. 1. While in the Picture Capture or Playback menu, u se to highlight Camera Setup.
8 Troubleshooting Use this section to find informatio n on: • Resetting the camera (see “ Resetting the came ra” on page 26 ) • Possible problems and solutions (see “ Problem s and solutio ns” on page 26 ) Resetting the camera If your camera does not re spond when you press buttons, reset the camera.
I have to recharge the Ni MH batteries freque ntly. • New batteries or batte ries that have not been charged recently must be recharg ed to reach full capa city. • If you have not used the batteri es for two months or longe r, recharge them. • For tips on conserving batt ery life, see “ Extendin g battery life” on page 33 .
My image is blurry . • Use a tripod to hold the camera steady, or improve lighting conditions. • Make sure the subject of your pict ures or video clips is within the focus range (a t least 1 m or 39.37 in away). • Select a shooting m ode appropriate for the scene you are capturin g (see “ Using the Picture Capt ure Menu” on page 11 ).
My camera indicates I can only store 2 000 images re gardless of th e Image Quali ty setting. When you turn on your camera wit h a memory card inst alled, the camera indicates the number of images you can store on the memory card at t he current Im age Quality setting.
My camera stalls when establishing a con nection to the computer. • Your memory card may have a large number of image s stored on it. The more image s you have on your card, the longer it takes to est ablish a connection to t he computer (up to five minutes).

A Managing batteries Your camera uses two AA batteries, either Alka line, Photo Lithium, or rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH).
