1 Product Features HP LCD Monitors The LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors have an ac tive matrix, thin-film tran sistor (TFT) pan el. The monitor models and feature s include: ● LA1751g model, 43.2 cm (17-inch ) diagonal viewable a rea display with 1280 × 1024 resol ution, plus full-screen support for lower resolutions ● LA1951g model, 48.
● Software and documentation CD th at includes monitor drivers and product documentatio n ● Energy saver feature to meet requ irements for reduced power consumption ● Energy Star qualified ● I.
2 Safety and Maintenance Guidelines Important Safety Information A power cord is included with the monitor. If anot her cord is used, use only a power source and connection appr opriate for this moni tor. For information on th e correct power cord set to use with th e monitor, r efer to the Power Cord Se t Requirements on page 39 in Appen dix C.
Maintenance Guidelines To enhance th e performance an d extend the life of the monito r: ● Do not open th e monitor cabinet or attempt to se rvice this product yourself.
3 Setting Up the Monitor To set up the monitor, en sure that the power is turned off to the mon itor, computer system, and other attached devices, then foll ow the instructions below. Unfolding the Monitor Pedestal Base NOTE: The monitor is ship ped with the base attached in a fold ed-flat position.
5. Remove the swivel locking pin (5) from the p edestal base. Connecting the Signal and Power Cables 1. Place the monitor in a convenient, well-ventilated location near the computer. 2. Connect a VGA sign al cable or DVI-D signal cable. NOTE: The monitor is cap able of supporting eithe r analog or dig ital input.
Connecting USB Devices 1. Connect one end of the provided USB ca ble to th e USB hub upstream connector on the rea r panel of the monitor, and the other en d to the USB connecto r on the compute r. 2. Connect USB devices to the two USB downstre am connectors on th e monitor.
Adjusting the Monitor NOTE: Your monitor mode l may look different than the mode l in the following illustr ations. 1. Tilt the monitor's panel forward or backwar d to set it to a comfortable eye level. Figure 3-7 Tilting the Monitor 2. Swivel the monitor to the le ft or right for the be st viewing angle.
3. Adjust the monitor's height so that it is parallel to your eye height for a comfortable viewing position. Figure 3-9 Adjusting the Height 4. Pivot the monitor clockwise from landsca pe to portrait orien tation viewi ng to adapt to your application.
Turning on the Monitor 1. Press the power but ton on the compu ter to turn it on. 2. Press the power button on the front of the monitor to turn it on. CAUTION: Burn-in image damage may occur on monitors that display the same static image on screen for a prolonged period of time.
Using the Accessory Rails The monitor features accessory rails on the re ar that can be used to mou nt optional device s, such as the HP speaker bar, to attach to the LCD. Refer to the documentation incl uded with the optional de vice for detailed mou nti ng instructions.
Removing the Monitor Pedestal Base You can remo ve the monitor p anel from the pede stal base to install the panel on a wall, a swing arm, or other mounting fixture. CAUTION: Before beginning to disassemb le the monitor, be sure th e monitor is tu rned off and the power and signal cables are both disconnected .
Mounting the Monitor The monitor panel can be attached t o a wall, swing arm, or oth er mounting fixture. 1. Remove the monitor pa nel from the pedest al base.
Locating the Rating Labels The rating labels on the moni tor provide the sp are part number, pro duct number, and serial number. You may need th ese numbers when contac ting HP a bou t the monito r model. The rating l abels are located on the re ar panel of the monitor di splay head.
4 Operating the Monitor Software and Utilities The CD that come s with the moni tor contai ns files you can in stall on the computer: ● an .INF (Information) file ● an .ICM (Image Color Match ing) file ● auto-adjust ment pattern utility ● additional software for the monitor model NOTE: If the monitor does not include a CD, the .
Installing the .INF and .ICM Files After you determi ne that you nee d to update, you can install the .INF and .ICM files from the CD or download the m. Installing from the CD To install the .INF and .ICM files on the computer from the CD: 1. Insert the CD i n the computer CD-ROM d rive.
To use the auto-adjustme nt feature: 1. Allow the monitor to warm up for 20 minutes befor e adjusting. 2. Press the -/Auto button on the mon itor front panel. ● You can also pres s the Menu button, then select Image Control from the OSD Main Menu. Refer to Adjusting the Monitor Settings on pa ge 20 in this chapter.

Adjusting the Monitor Settings The monitor settings can be adjuste d from the On-Screen Display (O SD) menu or from th e HP Display Assistant utility. Using the On-Screen Display Menu Use the On-Screen Display (O SD) to adjust the screen image based on yo ur viewing preference s.
OSD Menu Selections The following table lists the On-Screen Display (OSD) me nu selections and their fun ctional descriptions. After changing an OSD menu item, and if the menu screen ha s these options, you may choose to: ● Cancel —to return to the previous menu level.
Icon Main Menu Submenu Description Clock Phase Adjusts the focus of the display. This adjustment allows you to remove any horizontal noise and clear or sharpen the image of characters. OSD Control Provides a menu for adjusting the on-screen d isplay (OSD) con trols.
Icon Main Menu Submenu Descript ion Monitor Status Displays the operating status of the monitor each time the monitor is powered on. Select the location to display the status to: ● Top ● Middle ● Bottom ● Off The factory default is Top.
Icon Main Menu Submenu Description Factory Reset Returns all OSD menu settings and DDC/CI controls to the factory default settings, except the L anguage. Source Con trol Selects the video input signal. VGA is the factory default. DVI Selects DVI as the video input signal.
Using the HP Displ ay Assistant Utility HP Display Assistant, included on the software and documentation CD, is a so ftware utility that guides you through th e tuning proce ss with easy to unde rstand instructions and background patterns designed for each monitor control.
● OSD Lockout —The O SD can be e nabled or disabl ed by pressi ng and holdi ng the Menu button on the front pan el for 10 secon ds. If the OSD is locked, the warning message O SD Lockout displays for ten seconds. ◦ If the OSD is locked, pres s and hold the Menu button for 10 seconds to unlock the OSD.
6. Press the - (Minus ) or + (Plus) button to adj ust the hour. 7. Press the Menu button again to enter the time for minutes. 8. Press the - (Minus ) or + (Plus) button to adj ust the minutes. 9. Press the Menu button to lock in the time ch osen. 10. After setting the cur rent time , the high light automatically skips to Set Sleep Time hours .
Select This Option To Do This Activity Extension Sets the time in minutes before the monitor turns off if there is any keyboard or mouse activity after the Display Off time is r eached. If the keyboard or mouse is used, then HP Display LiteSaver waits until the set amount of time before tur ning the display off again.
3. Select the Color Management tab, then click the Add button to open the Add Profile Association dialo g box. 4. Select the sRGB Color Space Profile.icm file, then click the Ad d button 5. To activate a color profile for the monitor, yo u mu st se t it as the Defaul t Monitor Profile.
A Troubleshooting Solving Common Problems The following tab le lists possible problems, the poss ible cause of each problem, and the recommended solutions. Problem Possible Cause Solution Screen is blank. Powe r cord is disconnected. Connect the power cord.

Energy Saver Feature When the monitor is in its normal operating mo de, the monitor u ses less than 33.5 watts and the Power light is gr een. The monitor also supports a reduced power state. The reduced power st ate will be entered into if the monitor detects the ab sence of eith er the horizo ntal sync signal and/o r the vertical sync signal.
