4 Removal and replacement procedures Preliminary replacement requirements Tools required You will need the following tools to comple te the removal and re placement procedures: ● Flat-bla ded screw .
Cables and connectors CAUTION: When servicing the computer, be sure that c ables are placed in their prop er locations during the reassembly p rocess. Improp er cable placem ent can damage th e computer. Cables must be handle d with extreme care to avo id damage.
Grounding guidelines Electrostatic discharge damage Electronic componen ts are sensit ive to electrost atic discharge (ESD). Circuitry design and st ructure determine the deg ree of sensitiv ity.
Packaging and transporting guidelines Follow these groun ding guidelines whe n packaging and transp orting equipment: ● To avoid hand contact, transport products in static-safe tubes, bags, or boxes. ● Protect ESD-sensitive parts an d assemblies wi th conductive or approv ed containe rs or packaging.
Equipment guidelines Grounding equi pment must include eith er a wrist strap o r a foot strap at a grou nded workstation. ● When seated, wear a wrist strap connected to a grounded system. Wrist straps are flexibl e straps with a minimu m of one megohm ±1 0% resi stance in the ground cords.
Component replacement procedures This chapter provides removal an d replacement proced ures. There are as many as 95 screws and screw locks, in 15 different sizes, that must be removed, replaced, or loosened when servicing the computer . Make special note of each screw and screw lock size and location du ring removal and repl acement.
Computer feet The computer feet a re adhesive -backed rubber pads . The feet are in cluded in the Rubber Kit, spare part number 646 608-001 for HP ProBook 6560b models and 64119 2-001 for HP EliteBook 8560p models. There are 5 rubber feet that attach to the bottom co ver in the location s illustrated below.

Display assembly (panel, bezel, webcam, microphone) All display assemblies include WLAN antenna transceivers and cables. WWAN models include 2 WWAN antenna transceivers and cables.
Remove the display assembly: 1. Position the computer right-side up with the front toward you. 2. Open the compute r as far as possible. 3. To replace the disp lay bezel, remove the two rub ber screw covers (1) and the two Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws (2) in the bottom corners o f the display beze l.
6. If it is necessary to replace the webcam module from the d isplay enclosure, gen tly pull the webcam module awa y from the doubl e-sided tape on the display enclosu re (1) , disconnect the webcam cable from the module (2) , and then remove the webcam (3) .
11. Slide the display pan el up and ou t of the hinges (3) . Reverse this procedure to rea ssemble an d install the d isplay assembly. 62 Chapter 4 Remova l and replacement procedures.
SIM NOTE: This section applies on ly to computer models with WWAN capability. NOTE: If there is a SIM inserted in th e SIM slot, it must be remove d before disassembling the computer. Be sure that the SIM is reinserted in the SIM slot after reassembli ng the computer.
Bottom door The bottom door is ava ilable in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 6469 71-001 for HP ProBook 6560b models an d 641190-001 for HP EliteBook 8560p model s. Before disa ssembling the co mputer, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer.
Optical drive NOTE: All optical drive spare part kits include an optical d rive bezel. Description Spare part num ber For use in HP ProBook 6 560b models: Blu-ray ROM DVD±RW SuperMulti DL Drive 64965.
4. Remove the optical drive (3) from the computer. 5. If it is necessary to replace the optical drive bracket, position the optica l drive with the rear toward y ou. 6. Remove the three Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the optical driv e bracket to th e optical drive.
Upgrade bay Description Spare part num ber 500-GB, 7200-rpm hard drive 634919-001 Before removing a drive from the up grade bay, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer. If you are unsure whether th e computer is off or in Hibe rnation, turn the computer on, and th en shut it down thr ough the operating system.
5. Remove the drive assembly (3) from the computer. Reverse this procedure to in sta ll the drive into the upgrade bay. 68 Chapter 4 Remova l and replacement procedures.
Hard dr ive NOTE: All hard drive spare part kits incl ude a hard drive bracket and screws. Description Spare part num ber 750-GB, 7200-rpm hard drive 633252-001 500-GB, 7200-rpm hard drive, for use in.
4. Remove the ha rd drive (3) from the hard drive bay. 5. If it is necessary to re place the hard dr ive bracket, remove the two Phillips PM3.0 ×5.0 hard drive bracket screws (1) from each side of the hard drive (4 total screws). 6. Lift the bracket (2) straight up to remove it from th e hard drive.
RTC battery Description Spare part num ber RTC battery 641200-001 Before r emoving th e RTC bat tery, foll ow these steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer. If you are unsure whether th e computer is off or in Hibe rnation, turn the computer on, and th en shut it down thr ough the operating system.
Memory modules NOTE: Primary and expansion memory is insta lled in a stacke d configuration in the bo ttom of the computer. Description Spare part num ber 2-GB (PC3-10600, 13 33-MHz, DDR3) 621565-001 .
3. Remove the memory module (2) by pul ling the module a way from the slot at an angle. NOTE: Memory modules a re designed with a n otch (3) to prevent incorrect insertion into the memory module slot. NOTE: The computer uses tw o memory slots. Th e top slot houses th e expansion memory module and is shown in the first image below.

3. Disconnect th e power from the c omputer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC ou tlet, and then unpl ugging the AC adap ter from the comput er. 4. Remove the batt ery (see Battery on page 58 ). 5. Remove the bottom door (see Bottom door on pa ge 64 ).
4. Remove the WLAN module (3) by pulling the module away from the slot at an angle. NOTE: WLAN module s are designed with a no tch (4) to prevent incorrect insertion.
Bluetooth module NOTE: The Bluetooth modu le spare part kit does not include a Bluetooth module ca ble. The Bluetooth module cab le is included in the Cable Kit, spare part numbe r 646968-001 for u se in 6560b models and 6411 88-001 for use in 8560p models.
2. Lift the module straig ht up out of the computer (1) , and then disconnect the cable (2) fr om the module. 3. Remove the module from th e computer. Reverse this procedure to insta ll the Bluetooth module .
Modem module NOTE: The modem module spare part kit does not includ e a modem module cable. The mo dem module cable is in cluded in the Ca ble Kit, spare part number 64 6968-001 for use in 6560b models, 641188-001 for use in 8560p mod els. See Cable Kit on pag e 37 for more Cabl e Kit spare part number informatio n.
4. Disconnect th e modem module cable (3) from the modem module. Reverse this procedure to in stall the modem module. 84 Chapter 4 Remova l and replacement procedures.
Fan Description Spare part num ber Fan 641183-001 Before removing the fan, follow these step s: 1. Shut down the co mputer. If you are unsure whether th e computer is off or in Hibe rnation, turn the computer on, and th en shut it down thr ough the operating system.
NOTE: To prop erly ventilate the comput er, allow at le ast a 7.6-cm (3-in) clea rance on the l eft side of the computer. The computer uses an electric fan for ventilation . Th e fan is controlled by a te mperature sensor and is designed to turn on automatically when high temp erature cond itions exist.
4. Pull the heat sink away from the si de of the compute r to remove it (3) . 5. If removing the UMA heat si nk, in the order indicated, loosen the captive Phillips screws (1) that secure the heat sink to the system board. 6. Lift the heat sink up at an angle (2) .
7. Pull the heat sink away from the si de of the compute r to remove it (3) . NOTE: For discrete models, thorough ly clean thermal material from the surfaces of the system board components (1)(3)(5) , the heat sink (2)(4)(6) each time you remove the heat sink.
NOTE: For UMA models, thoroughly clean thermal mate rial from the surfaces of the system board (1)(3) and heat sink (2)( 4) each time you re move the heat sink. All heat sink and pro cessor spare part kits include thermal material. In the following illustration, t he location denoted by callout (2) on the heat sink uses thermal grea se.
Processor NOTE: All processor spare part kits include replacem ent thermal materia l, including thermal grease and pads. 3. Lift the processor (2) straight up and remove it. NOTE: The gold tria ngle (3) on the p rocessor must be alig ned with the triangle (4) embossed on the processo r slot when you inst all the processor. Reverse this procedure to insta ll the processor.
Keyboard NOTE: For a detailed list o f available keyb oards, see Sequential part number listing on page 40 . Description Spare part num ber Keyboard for use in model 6560b without a poin ting stick 64.
3. Using a screwdriver or similar too, press in the gap in th e left side of the battery bay to disengage the keyboa rd. 4. Position the computer right-side up with the front toward you. 5. Open the compute r as far as possible. 6. Lift and rotate the keyboa rd upward to gain access to the ca bles.
8. Lift the pointing stick conne ctor latch (3) , and the n disconnect the pointing stick cable from the system board (4) . 9. Remove the keyboard. Reverse this procedure to insta ll the keyboard. Bottom cover NOTE: Make sure to remove the modem plug from th e slot in the bottom cover if the repaired unit includes a modem.
Before removing the bottom cover, follow the se steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer. If you are unsure whether th e computer is off or in Hibe rnation, turn the computer on, and th en shut it down thr ough the operating system. 2. Disconnect all ext ernal devices connected to the computer.
2. Remove the following covers an d screws that secure the bottom cover to the co mputer: (1) 2 small rubber screw covers (2) 1 large rubber screw cover (3) 6 Torx PM2.5×6.0 screws (4) 4 Phillips PM2.5× 3.0 screws from the battery bay 3. Remove the following scre ws that secu re the bottom cover to the comput er: (1) : 2 Phillips PM2.
4. Remove the 4 Torx PM2.5×6 .0 screws from the rear of the computer. Component replacement procedures 97.
5. Remove the wireless cable s from their ro uting path on the bottom cover (1) , and disconnect the speaker cable from the system board (2) . 6. Press the tab in the b attery bay (1) to disengage the bottom cover. 7. Remove the bottom cove r from the computer (2) .
NOTE: When replacing th e bottom cover, make sure to remove the mo dem plug from the slot in th e bottom cover if th e repaired unit in cludes a modem. Speaker assembly Description Spare part num ber Speaker assembly 641186-001 Before removing the speaker assembly, follow these steps: 1.

RJ-11 jack cable NOTE: The RJ-11 jack cable is include d in the Cable Kit, spare part number 646968-001 for use in 6560b models, 64 1188-001 for use in 85 60p models. Before removing the RJ-11 jack cable, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the co mputer.
3. Remove the RJ-11 jack cabl e from the clips and routing channel (2) built into the bottom co ver. 4. Remove the RJ-11 jack cabl e from the bottom cover.

17. Lift the antennas (2) and cables (3) straight up out of the d isplay enclosure.
