9 Basics SIM car d The SIM car d contains y our phone number , service details, and phonebook/ message memory . Y our phone supports both 1.8V and 3 V SIM cards. Some legacy SIM car ds may not function with y our phone. Y ou should consult with y our mobile opera tor for a r eplacement SIM car d.
10 Basics Batt ery Y our phone uses a r echargeable ba ttery . Please use only original batteries and ac cessories that came with y our phone or replacements tha t we r ecommend. How long the ba ttery can last befor e it needs rechar ging depends on how y ou use your phone.
11 Basics Char ging the battery The batt ery is partially charged when shipped. Befor e you turn on and s tart using your phone, it is r ecommended that y ou charge the battery . Some batteries perf orm best aft er sev eral full char ge/ discharge cy cles.
12 Basics Swit ching y our phone on or off Swit ching your phone on Pres s the POWER butt on. Easy . When y ou turn on the phone for the first time, y ou’ll need to set it up. Go to “Setting up y our phone for the first time” and w e’ll take y ou through it.
13 Getting started Getting s tarted Setting up y our phone for the firs t time When y ou switch on y our phone for the first time, y ou’ll be asked t o set some options such as y our time zone and your W indow Liv e ID. Jus t follow the onscr een instructions and you’ll be up and running with y our phone in no time.
14 Getting started T o pin something, let’s sa y a contact, to the Start scr een, press and hold it until a menu appears, and then tap pin to s tart . Unpinning a tile On the Start scr een, press and hold the tile y ou want to r emov e, and then tap .

17 Getting started Sear ching Sear ching the W eb On the Start scr een, press SEARCH. T he Bing™ search scr een opens. T ap the search bo x, enter what y ou want to sear ch for , and then tap on the ke yboard. Y ou’ll then see a list of matched items onscr een.
18 Getting started Changing the ringt one Choose fr om the av ailable selections of ringtones on y our phone. On the Start scr een, tap . T ap Settings > ringtones & sounds . T ap the Ringtone bo x. Listen t o a ringtone b y tapping the play ic on beside its name.
19 Phone calls Phone calls Making calls Most SIM car ds come with a PIN (personal identification number) set by y our mobile operat or . If y ou’re ask ed for a PIN, enter it and then tap OK . If y ou enter the PIN wr ong three times, y our SIM card is blocked.
20 Phone calls Rec eiving calls When y ou rec eiv e a phone call fr om a contact, the Inc oming call screen appears and display s the caller ID icon, name , and phone number of the calling party .
21 Phone calls Putting a call on hold T ap . T ap hold . T ap hold again to r esume the call. Swit ching between calls If y ou’re alr eady on a call and acc ept another call, y ou can choose to switch betw een the two calls. 1. When y ou rec eiv e another call, tap answ er to acc ept the second call, and to put the first call on hold.
22 Phone calls Muting the micr ophone during a call T ap . T ap mute . T ap mute again to turn on the micr ophone. Ending a call On the screen, tap end call .
23 Phone calls Clearing the call hist ory list On the call history scr een, y ou can do the follo wing: T o remo ve a name or number fr om the list, pres s and hold it, and then tap delete item . T o clear the entire list, tap ... , and then tap delete all .
24 P eople People About the People hub When y ou set up your email and other ac counts on your phone , your contacts ar e imported automatically int o your People hub . Y ou’ll be able to see c ontacts from y our Window s Live, Fac ebook, as well as other email ac counts lik e Google and Outlook (Microsoft Ex change Activ eSync).
25 People If y ou signed in to y our Window s Live acc ount when you first set up the phone , y our contacts fr om those acc ounts will appear in the contacts list when y ou first open People. Contact informa tion When y ou tap a contact on the People hub, the pr ofile screen opens, sho wing you the person’ s contact details.
26 People Importing c ontacts fr om y our SIM card On the Start scr een, tap the People tile. In all of the People hub, tap import SIM c ontacts . If y ou hav e an acc ount alr eady set up, pr ess and hold people on top of the scr een, and then tap settings .
27 People Sear ching for a c ontact On the Start scr een, tap the People tile. Pres s SEARCH. In the search bar , enter the firs t few lett ers of the first or last name of the c ontact you are looking f or . Matching c ontacts are displa yed. 4. T ap the contact to open his or her c ontact details scr een.
28 People While on the Me scr een, you can tap: Y our status mes sage to the right of y our photo to pos t a new status mes sage. Y our photo t o change it.
29 Ke yboard K e yboar d The Har dw ar e K eyboar d Y our de vice c omes with a QWERTY k eyboar d, which is similar to a standar d ke yboard on a comput er . T o use the k eyboar d, slide the screen panel to the right t o re veal the k eyboar d. The scr een panel will pop up at an angle for comf ortable viewing.
30 Ke yboard T o enter the symbol or punctuation mark that is print ed at the upper right corner of a ke y , pr ess , and then press the c orresponding k ey . T o open the Symbol Pad, pr ess . Pres s to insert a har d return while typing. Pres s the arro w ke ys / / / for directional mo vement.
31 Ke yboard Mo ving the cursor While entering t ext, pr ess and hold the te xt box. A floa ting cursor appears . Drag the cursor t o the position that you w ant, and then release y our finger . Changing to the landscape k eyboar d When entering t ext, y ou can choose to use the landscape orientation of the k eyboar d.
32 Messaging Mes saging About Messaging K eep in touch with important people in your lif e. Use the Messaging application to c ompose and send te xt and picture mes sages.
33 Messaging Sending a pictur e message T o send a picture message , start b y creating a ne w te xt message, and then a ttach a photo t o include it. On the Start scr een, tap the Messaging tile. On the con versations scr een, tap . 3. Fill in one or more r ecipients.
34 Messaging Managing message c on v ersations Deleting a con versa tion On the con versations scr een, press and hold a c ontact (or phone number) whose messages y ou want to delet e, and then tap delete . When y ou’re ask ed to confirm, tap delet e .
35 Email Email A dding a POP3/IMAP email ac count Do one of the follo wing: If y ou hav en’t set up any ac counts y et, tap Email setup on the Start screen. On the Start scr een, tap , open Settings , and then tap email & accounts > add an acc ount .

If you don’t see the tile , tap the arr ow on the Start scr een, and then tap the account in the apps lis t.

40 Calendar Sending an invita tion Y ou can use Calendar to schedule a meeting or an appointment and in vite people to att end it. An invitation email will be sent t o them from the ac count that y ou choose. 1. Open Calendar and crea te a new appointment.

44 Getting connected Enabling data r oaming Data r oaming lets you connect t o your mobile oper ator ’ s partner networks and ac cess data services when y ou are out of y our mobile operat or ’s co v erage ar ea. Using data services while r oaming will be costly .

58 Zune T urning on repea t or shuffle While pla ying a song, tap the album cov er to loop or shuffle the songs in the album. Y ou can also ra te the album. 59 Maps and location Maps and location T urning on location servic es In order t o find your location on y our phone, y ou need to enable location sour ces. On the Start scr een, tap . T ap Settings > location . T ap the Location services On/ Off swit ch to turn it on.
