6 2 Getting Started All the pictures in this gu ide are for your reference only. The actual appea rance and display featur es depend on the mobile phone y ou purchase.
7 2.1. 2 Key Funct ion s at Yo ur Fi ngert ips 2.2 Setting Up Your Mobile Phon e 2.2. 1 Instal li ng the SI M Card There are two steps to inst all the SIM card: 1. Remove the battery cover. 2. Insert the SIM ca rd. 13 Speaker 14 Charging/Data interface • Press and hold to power on your mobile pho ne.
8 2.2. 2 Instal li ng th e Batte ry 1. Angle the edge labeled a (with the contacts) int o the bottom end of the battery compartment. 2. Push the edge labeled b into the compartment until the battery clicks firmly into place. 2.2.3 Charging the Battery Before charging th e battery, ensure that it has been properly installed o n your phone.
9 • As it ages, the battery’s performa nce will degr ade, in particu lar it will not hold charge as it did when it was new. When the bat tery life becomes noticeably s horter than usual after being charge d properly, replace the batt ery with a new one of the same type.
10 2.3 Power On or Off Your Mobile Ph one 2.3.1 Powering On Your M obile Phone Press . The first time you power on your phone, you will be asked to sign in to your account and set up y our mobile phone. If personal ident ification number (PIN) protection is enabled o n your mobile phone, you must enter your PIN befor e using the mobile phone.
11 2.3. 6 Usin g Airp lane Mod e Some locations may require you to turn o ff your phone’s wir eless connecti ons. Rather than powering off your pho ne, you can place it in Airplane mode . 1. Press and hold . 2. Touch Airplane mode in the opt ions menu .
12 2.5.2 Unlocking the Screen 1. Press to wake up the sc reen. 2. Drag the lock icon from left to r ight to unlock the screen. If you have set up a screen unlock pattern, you will be prompted to draw the pattern on the screen to unlock it. 2.6 Home Scre en 10:23 Touch to view all your applications.
13 Touch and hold a shortcut until the mobile phone vib rates, you can then drag it to your desired location or mov e it to the tras h. You can als o drag an icon f rom another area of the scree n to the shortcut position.
14 2.6. 2 Noti fi cati on Panel Your mobile phone will notify you wh en you receive a new mess age or there is an upcoming event. The notification pan el also informs you of alarms and settings, for example, you will be notified when Call forwarding is activated.
15 Opening the Notification P anel 1. When a new notification icon appea rs on the notification bar, place your finger on the notification bar and flick down to open t he notification panel. You can also open the notifica tion panel from the Home screen: Touch > Notification s to open the panel.
16 2. Select an item to add it to the Home screen. Moving a Home Screen Item 1. Touch and hold an item on the Home scree n until the item expands in s ize and the mobile phone vibrates. 2. Without lifting your finger, drag the item to the desired position on the screen, and then release it.
17 2.6. 8 Edit ing a Screen Item 1. Touch and hold an item on the Home screen unt il the Select action menu is displayed. 2. Touch Edit icon , and then do any of the followi ng: • Customize the title of the screen item. • Select a new ico n for the screen item.
18 2.8.2 Using the m icroSD Card as a US B Mass Storage To transfer all y our favorite mu sic and pictur es from your P C to your mob ile phone’s microSD card, set the microSD car d as a USB mass storage. 1. Connect your mobile phone to your PC with the USB cable pro vided.
19 Be careful not to block the microphone at the bottom of your pho ne if you want your voice heard by the other parties in a call. 3.1. 1 Making a Cal l wi th th e Diale r Appl icat ion 1. On the Home screen, touch > Dialer to display the dia ler.

21 3.3 Other Op erations During a Call 3.3.1 Making a Conference Call If you receive a new call while yo u are already in a call, you can add the second c all to the call you are in . This feature is known as conference ca lling. You can also s et up a conference call with multiple callers.
22 3.4.1 Adding a n Entry to Contacts 1. If you are already working with Dialer or Contacts , touch the Call lo g tab. 2. Touch and hold the entry you want to add to your Contacts . 3. Touch Add to contacts in the options menu. 4. Touch Create new contact or scroll through the co ntact list and touch an exis ting contact name.
23 4.3 Adding a Contact 1. In the contact list, touch > Create contact . 2. If you have more than one account with contacts, touch the account to which you want to add the co ntact. 3. Enter the contact's name, and then add de tailed information such as phon e number and address.
24 1. In the contacts list, touch and hold the co ntact whose details you wa nt to edit, and then touch Edit contact in the options menu. 2. Touch the category of contact informa tion you wish to change: name, phone number, email address , or any other information yo u recorded earlier.
25 4.9 Streams Streams is a client that integr ates social networ king service (SNS) func tions of Facebook, and Twitter. Using Streams, your SNS accounts ca n be closely linked w ith Contacts. To access the Streams screen , touch > Stream s . You can also touch Contacts , and then flick left to switch to the Streams screen.
26 Using the w idget, you ca n quickly acc ess Streams , or directly br owse the lat est events and update the status of your friends on the Home sc reen. 4.10 Ma naging Groups 4.10.1 Creating a Group 1. On the Home screen, touch > Contacts . Then flick the tab bar to the lef t and touch Groups .
27 4.11 Joining and Sep arating Contacts You may have duplicate c ontacts if you import conta cts by: • Adding an account, s uch as a Gmail account. • Using the social net working services s uch as Facebook or Tw itter. (If your phone has the Streams fu nction, you can use it to a ccess Facebook or Twit ter.
28 4.12 Sending Contacts You can send contacts as a .vc f file via Bluetooth or Email. 1. In the contacts list, touch . 2. Select contacts that you want to send. 3. Touch Send . 4. Select the way you prefer to send the cont acts you have select ed, for example Bluetooth or Email.
29 5.1. 2 Usin g the An droi d Keyb oard On the Home screen, touch > Settings > Language & keyboard > Android keyboard > Voice input to turn on or turn off voice input. 5.1.3 Using th e Landscape K eyboard If you find the keyboard inconvenient or difficult to use, tur n your mobile phone sideways.
30 6.1 SMS and MMS 6.1.1 Open ing Messaging Touch > Messaging . 6.1. 2 Crea ti ng and Sendi ng a T ext Me ssage 1. Touch > Messaging > New message . 2. Enter a phone number or a contact's name in t he To field, or touch to select a contact from Contacts or Groups .
31 3. Touch the composition text box to start enter ing your message. If you want t o enter a sm iley, touch , and then touch Insert smiley . 4. Touch to display the options panel. • Touch Add subject to add the messa ge subject. Your mobile phone is now in multimedia message mode.
32 6.1.6 Copying a Text Message to Notepad or Calend ar 1. In the message list, touch a text message thre ad to open it. 2. Touch and hold one of the messages, and then touch Copy message to . 3. Touch Notep ad or Calendar to sav e it as a note or a n event .
33 2. Touch on the accounts screen, and then touc h Add account to create another email account. When adding an additional email acco unt, you have the option to use the new account to sen d all outgoing messa ges. 6.2.2 Viewing an Email Messa ge 1. On the accounts screen, touch the ema il account you want to use.
34 6.2.6 Changing Email Account Settings You can change a number of account settings, includ ing how often you chec k for emails, how you ar e notified of a n ew mail, and details ab out the servers th e account uses to send and receive mails . Your account’s inco ming and outgoing settings depe nd on the kind of email service you are using.
35 7.2 Mobile Net works Your mobile phone will be automatically configured to use your network operator’s 2G/3G service (if available) when you t urn on the phon e for the first time . Note that the SIM/UIM card mu st be inserted (so me CDMA mobile phones have an integrated UIM card and do not need a separat e UIM card) 7.
36 7.3.1 Turning On Wi-Fi 1. Touch > Settings . 2. Touch Wireless & networks , and then select the Wi-Fi check box to turn on Wi-Fi. 7.3.2 Connec ting to a Wireless Network 1. After turning on Wi-Fi, touch > Settings . 2. Touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi sett ings .
37 1. Connect a USB cable to a computer. The co mputer will automatically recognize the phone. 2. Download and install ActiveSync 4.5 or a later vers ion.
38 Touch to open the brow ser options menu and perfor m one of the following operations: • New window : Touch to open a new wind ow. • Bookmarks : Touch to display bookmar ks. • Windows : Touch to view thu mbnails of open browse r windows. You ca n switch to another browse r window or open a ne w one on this screen.
39 Opening a Bookmark 1. In a browser window, touch , and then touch Bookmarks . On the Bookmarks screen, touch the Histo ry tab to view the pages you have visited, or touch the Most visited tab to view the pages you have vis ited most frequently. 2. Touch the bookmark of the website you want to open.
40 • Object Push Pr ofile (OPP): allows yo u to transfer file s over a Bluetooth co nnection. • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2D P): allows you to use a stereo Bluetooth headset. • A/V Remote Control Prof ile (AVRCP): allows yo u to control audio playing us ing a Bluetooth headset remotely.
41 8.1 Taking P hotos and Recording Videos The camera is a c ombination of came ra and camcord er that you ca n use to shoot and share pictures and videos . 8.1.1 Opening Y our Camera • Touch > Camera to open the camera. The camera opens in landsc ape mode, ready t o take a pic ture or rec ord a video.
42 8.1. 3 Vi ewing Y our P hotos 1. After taking a photo, a thumbnail of the pho to you have just taken is shown in the upper right corner of the capture screen. Touch the thumbnail to view it. 2. Touch the onscreen button to do an y of the following: • Touch Share to send the photo in a message or pos t it online.
43 8.2.1 Opening the Ga llery On the Home screen, touch > Gallery . The Gallery application categorizes your pictures and videos by s torage location and displays these files in folder s. Touch a folder to view the pictur es or videos inside. 8.2. 2 Vi ewing a Pi cture 1.
44 8.3 Enjoying Music 8.3.1 Open ing the Music Library Touch > Huawei Music to open the music library . The music libra ry automatically sc ans for music s tored on you r microSD ca rd and displays them in Albums , Songs , Playlis ts , Folders .
45 8.3. 2 Playi ng Musi c 1. From the music l ibrary, select a way to vie w your music. 2. Touch the music file you want to play. By default, the albu m cover is displayed while the music is play ing. You can flick left or right to switch to visua lization effects or the lyrics screen.
46 8.3. 5 Playi ng Musi c in a Playl ist 1. In music library, touch Playl ists . 2. Press and hold the playlist you want to play. 3. Touch Play to play the playlist. 8.4 Listening to the FM Radio The FM radio lets you listen to FM radio programs on yo ur mobile phone.
47 If you already have a Google ac count, touch Sign in and enter your user name and password. 9.1 Creating a Google Acco unt If you do n ot have a Go ogle account, y ou can creat e one: 1. After reading the setup information, touch Next . 2. Touch Create .

49 9.2. 6 Custo mizin g Your Gmail /Goog le Mai l Set tin gs In the mail list, touch , and then touch More > Settings to customizing you r Gmail/Google Mail . 9.3 Talk Talk is Google’s instant messaging servic e. You can use it to communicate in real time with other people using Talk on a phone or on the web.

54 10.1.1 Adding an Account When you add an account , the Contacts application compares cont acts from the newly synchronized ac count with contact s from your existing mo bile phone accounts and attempts to merge duplicate s into a single entry in Contacts .
55 10.2 Customizing Y our Account Synchronization You can configure backg round data use and synchr onization options for all the applications on your pho ne.
56 11 Using Other Applications 11.1 Calendar Use Calendar to create and manage even ts, meetings, and appointments. Depending on your sy nchronization sett ings, the calendar on yo ur phone can be synchronized w ith the inter net-based cale ndar you use.
57 11.1.3 Setting an Event Rem inder 1. In any calendar view, touch an eve nt to view its details or a n event summary. 2. Touch the Add reminder button to add a reminder, o r touch the reminder’s “-” button to delete an exist ing reminder.
58 11.2 Clock In addition to displa ying the date and time, t he Clock application displays information about the weather and your phone. You can also use Clock to turn your mobile phone into an a larm clock. 11.2.1 Opening the Clock On the Home screen, touch > Clock to open the application.
59 11.3 Calculator Use Calculator to solve si mple arithmetic problems or use its adva nced operators to solve more complex equat ions. 11.3.1 Opening Calculator On the Home screen, touch > Calculator to open the application.
60 3. Touch Set date . On the set date screen, touch or to adjust the date, month, and yea r, and then touch Set when the configuration is c omplete. 4. Touch Select time zone , and then select the desired time zone from the list. Scroll the list to view more time zones .
61 12.3.2 Adjusting the Volum e You can adjus t the volume fr om the Home scr een or any applica tion screen (ex cept during a call or when playing music or videos). Press the Volume key s to adjust volume to the level you desire. You can also adjust the volume from the s ettings screen.
62 12.4.3 Switching off the Data S ervice 1. On the Settings screen, touch Wireless & networks > Mobile networks . 2. Clear the Data ena bled check box. 12.5 Configuring Text-to-Spee ch Use the Text-to-Sp eech settings to con figure the Android text -to-speech synt hesizer, for applications t hat can take advantage of th is feature.
63 12.6.2 Protecting Your Mobile Phone with a Screen Lock To keep your data more sec ure, lock the screen and /or require a screen un lock pattern every time your mobile phon e is turned on or wakes up from sleep mode. 1. On the Settings screen, touch Location & security > Set up screen lock > Pattern .
64 12.7 Managing Applications 12.7.1 Viewing an Installed Ap plication 1. On the Settings screen, touch Applications > Manage applications . 2. In the applications list, do either of the following: • Touch , and then touch Sort by size . Then touch an application t o view its details.
