9 2.2.2 Charging the Battery Before charging the b attery, ensure that it has been properly in serted into your p hone. 1. Connect the USB cable that came with your mobile pho ne to the charger. 2. Connect the USB cable to your mobile phone. Then, plug in the connector of the charger to an electric al outlet.
10 2.2.4 Battery Saving Tips The longevity of battery powe r depends on the network that you connec t to, and how you use your mob ile phone. Try the following to conserve ba ttery power: • Use normal wallpaper rat her than live wallp aper. • When your mobile phone is not in us e, switch off the screen.
11 2.3.3 Powering Off Your Mobile Phone 1. Press and hold to open the Phone options menu. 2. Touch Power off . 3. Touch OK . 2.4 Using the Touchscreen 2.4.1 Touchscree n Actions • Touch : Use the touc h of your finger to select an item, c onfirm a selecti on, or start an application.
12 2.5.2 Unlocking the Screen 1. Press to wake up the screen. 2. Drag the lock icon from left to right to unlock the screen. If you have set up a screen unlock pattern, you will be prompted to draw the pattern on the screen to unlock it. 2.6 Home Screen 10:23 Touch to open the Phone application.
13 2.6. 1 Notifi cation and S tatus I cons 2.6.2 Notifications Panel Your mobile phone will notify you wh en you receive a new mess age or there is an upcoming event.
14 Open the notification s panel to see your network operator or to view a message, reminder, or event notification. Opening the Notifications Panel 1. When a new notification icon appears on the notif ication bar, flick down to open the notification s panel.
15 Moving a Screen Item 1. Touch and hold an item on the Home screen until the ite m expands in size and t he mobile phone vibrates. 2. Without lifting your f inger, drag the item to the desired p osition on the scree n, and then release it. Removing a Screen Item 1.
16 3. Touch Turn on USB storage in the dialog box that opens to confirm that you want to trans fer file s. You can now transfer f iles from your PC to your mobile phone’s microSD card. When your microSD card acts as USB mass storage, your mobile phone will not use this memory space.
17 3.1. 1 Making a Call wi th the Dia ler Appli cation 1. Touch > Diale r to display the dialer. If you are alre ady working w ith Contacts or Call lo g , touch the Dialer tab.
18 3.2 Answering or Reje cting a Call 3.2.1 Answering an Incoming C all When you receive a phone call, the incomin g call screen opens with the caller's name and number that you have entered in Contacts . Drag the to the right to answer the call.
19 3.3 Other Op erations During a Call 3.3.1 Making a Co nference Call If you receive a new call while yo u are already on a c all, you can connec t the second call to the call you are on. This feature is known as conference calling. You can also set up a conference call with multiple callers.
20 3.3. 2 Switchin g Between Cal ls If you receive a new ca ll while you are already on a call, y ou can switch between t he two calls. 1. While you are on th e first call and the se cond call comes in, ans wer the incoming call, and then touch > Swap calls .
21 4.1 Opening the Contacts Applica tion If you have a new mobile p hone and have not yet adde d any contact s, Contacts displays a mess age with hints on how to start adding cont acts to your mo bile phone. Touch > Contacts to open the Contacts application.
22 4.5 Editing a Contact You can make changes t o the information you have stor ed for a contact at any t ime. 1. In the contacts list, touc h and hold the contact who se details you want to ed it, and then touch Edit contact in the options menu.
23 4.7 Deleting a Contact 1. In the contacts list, touc h and hold the contact th at you want to delete, and then touch Delete contact in the options me nu. 2. Touch OK to confirm that you want t o delete the c ontact. 4.8 Managin g Groups You can crea te your own gr oups or use d efault groups, such as Work, Family and Friends.
24 4.9 Joining and Separating Co ntacts You may have duplicate c ontacts if you import contact s by: • Adding an account, suc h as a Gmail account. • Using the social netw orking services s uch as Facebook or Tw itter. (If your phone has the Streams funct ion, you can use it to a ccess Facebook or Twit ter.
25 5 Using the Onscreen Keyboard 5.1 Displaying the Keyboard Pa nel To enter text, use the onsc reen keyboard. So me applications open the keyb oard automatically. In others, touch a text field to open the ke yboard. Touch the space where you want to w rite text to display the keyboard.
26 Touch > Settings > Language & keyboard > Android keyboard > Voice input to turn on or turn off voice input. 5.1. 3 Using the Swyp e Keyboard Touch once to capitalize the next letter you type. Touch twice for all caps. Touch and hold to get helpful tips.
27 5.1.4 Using the L andscape K eyboard If you find the keyboard incon v enient or difficult to use, turn your mobile phone sideways. The screen will display the keyboard in landscape orientation, providing you with a w ider keyboard layout. 5.2 Customizing Keyboard Setti ngs 1.
28 3. Touch the composition text box to start entering yo ur message. While entering your messa ge, you can touch > Insert contact to insert contact information. 4. When you are ready t o send the message, touch Send . The message list opens, and your name appears in the list, followed by the message you just sent.

30 6.2.1 Adding a n Email Accoun t When us ing the Email application for the first time , you must configure an email account. The Email setup wizard helps you set up yo ur account. A number of pop ular email systems are supp orted. You can wo rk with the same email service that you us e on your PC or you can select another email service.
31 6.2. 3 Creating an d Sending an E mail Message 1. On the accounts scree n, touch the email account yo u want to use. 2. On the Inbox screen, touch , and then touch Compose in the options panel. 3. In the To field, enter the name or the email add ress.
32 6.2.7 Changing Email Account Settings You can change a number of settings for an account, includ ing how often you check for emails, how you are notified of a new mail, and details about the servers the account uses to send and receive mails. Your account’s inco ming and outgoing settings depe nd on the kind of email service you are using.
33 7.2.2 Connec ting to a Wireless Network 1. After turning on Wi-F i, touch > Settings . 2. Touch Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings . You will see a list of detected Wi-Fi networks in the Wi-Fi networks section. 3. Touch a Wi-Fi network to connect to it.
34 7.3.2 Sharing Your Phone’s Data Connection as a Portable Wi-F i Hotspot A Tethering Plan from your serv ice provider is required to use t his service. 1. Touch > Settings . 2. Touch Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot .
35 7.4.2 Opening a Web Pag e 1. In a browser windo w, touch the URL field at the t op of the screen. 2. Use the keyboard to ent er the web page addres s. You can touch to enter the web page address by voice. 3. As you enter the address, matchin g web page addresses will appear o n the screen.
36 7.5 Blue tooth Your mobile phone has Bluet ooth, which allows you to crea te a wireless connection with other Bluetooth devic es so you can share files with you r friends, talk hands-free with a Bluetooth headset , or even transfer photos on your phone to you r PC.
37 7.5.3 Sending Files via Bluetooth With Bluetooth, you can sha re pictures, videos, or music files wit h your family and friends. To send files via Bluetooth, do as follows: 1. Touch and hold the file to be sent in your mobile phone or SD card . The active options menu is display ed.
38 Capture Screen On the capture screen, touch to show the capture pan el. 8.1. 2 Taking a Photo 1. Open your camera and s witch to the camera mode. 2. If necessary, chan ge the camera settings. The preview changes as you chan ge the settings. 3. Compose your photo wit hin the photo capture scr een.
39 8.1.4 Recording a Video 1. Open the camera, and then switch to camcor der mode. 2. If necessary, chan ge the camcorder settings. 3. Frame the scene which you want to start y our video. 4. Touch to start recording a video. 5. Touch to stop recordin g.
40 3. Touch the screen. Then the zoom panel appears. You can zoom in or zoom out on the picture. The picture view er supports the automatic rotation function. When you rotate your mobile phone, the picture ad justs itself to the rotation. 8.2. 3 Rotating a Pictur e 1.

43 9.2 Using Gmail Gmail is Google’s web-based email s ervice. When you first set up your phone, you may have configured it to use an existing Gmail account or create a new account. The first time you open the Gmail application on your phone, yo ur Inbox will contain the messages from your Gmail account on the web .
44 • If you select ed Reply or Reply all , enter your me ssage. • If you select ed Forward , specify the me ssage recipient s and add any additional text you want to include with the forwarded mes sage. 4. Touch to send, or touch to save as a draft.
45 9.3. 4 Starting a Chat 1. In the friends list, touch a frie nd's name in the friends list. 2. Use the onscree n keyboard to en ter text and chat with y our friend.
46 9.4 Using Maps Maps lets you find your current loc ation, view real-time traffic c onditions (depending on availability in your locale), and get detail ed directions to various destinations on a satellite, traffic, or other kind of map.

On the applicat ion details screen, you can view more information abo ut the selected application, such as its cost, ove rall rating, user comme nts, and similar applications in which you migh t be interested.
49 10.1 Managing Your Accoun ts You can synchronize cont acts, email, and other information on your mobile phone with multiple Google accounts or other kinds of accounts, dep ending on the applications installed on your mobile pho ne.
50 10.1.2 Removing an A ccount You can remove a n account, deleting it and all information associated with it f rom your mobile phone, including email, contact s, settings, and so on. You ca nnot, however, remove some accounts, suc h as the first account you signed into on the mobile phone.
51 • Select or clear t he Auto-syn c check box to control whe ther changes y ou make to information on the p hone or on the w eb are automatically synchronized w ith each other. For example, when this op tion is selected, cha nges that you make in Contacts on the phone a re automatically made in Google Cont acts on the w eb.
52 2. Enter the event name . • If there is a time frame for the event, touch From and To to set the beginning and end times of the event. • If the event is a special occasion such as a birthday or a day-long activity, set the date for From and To , and then select the All da y check box.
53 11.1.5 Customizing the Calendar Settings On any calendar view, touch . Then touch More > Settings . • Hide declined events : Selec t to hide events for which you have decli ned invita tions. • Use home time zone : Displays calendars and ev ent times in your home time zone when traveling.
54 3. Touch Repeat to set the days when you want the alarm to sound. 4. Touch Ringtone to select a ringtone f or the alarm. 5. Select the Vibrate check box to have the phone vibrate, in addition to playing th e ringtone. 6. Touch Label to enter a name for the alarm.
