3 When all the echo es are view ed side b y side, an easy to interpret “gr aph“ of the bottom, fish, and structure appear s. The sou nd pu ls es are t rans mi tt ed at var iou s frequencies depending on the applica tion. V ery high frequencies (455 kHz) ar e used for gr eatest definition but the operating depth is limited.
4 Side Imaging® Sonar Y our Fishfinder uses Side Imaging® sonar to pro vide a wide yet pr ecise surve y of a large area of water , including detailed bottom topography and fish-a ttracting structure orienta tion. The Side Ima gin g® t rans duc er ret urn s are processed into an image similar to an aerial photograph.
5 DualBeam PLUS™ Sonar Y our Fishfinder uses a 200/83 kHz DualBeam PLUS™ sonar system with a wide (60°) area of cover age. DualBeam PLUS™ sonar has a narro wly focused 20° center beam, surr ounded by a second beam of 60°, expanding y our covera ge t o an a rea eq ua l to yo ur d ept h.

Selectable dual- frequency giv es you the option of two beams, and both beams will cover the bottom and pro vide high definition.
7 How GPS W orks Y our 300 Series™ Fishfinder also supports GPS (Global P ositioning System) and chartplotting. It uses GPS and sonar to determine your position, displa y it on a grid, and provide detailed underw ater in formation. GPS uses a constellation of satel lites that continually send radio signals to the earth.
8 What’s on the 300 Series™ Contr ol Head Y our 300 Series™ Fishfinder interf ace is easy to use. A combination of k eys and special featu res allows y ou to control wha t you see on the displa y . Refer to the followi ng illustrat ion, and see Ke y Functions for more inf ormation.

11 4-W A Y Cursor Control K ey (LEFT , RIGHT , UP , or DOWN Cursor ke ys) The 4-W AY Cur sor Control k ey has multiple functions, which depend on the view , menu, or situation. • Menu Selection: Press the DOWN or UP Cursor ke ys to highlight a menu option, then press the RIGHT or LEFT Cur sor ke ys to change a menu setting.
12 MARK Ke y Press the MARK k ey while in any vie w to mark the position of a waypoi nt. The MARK k ey function w orks if you ha ve the GPS receive r connected. • Active Cursor: T he wa ypoint will be marked a t the cursor loca tion. • Without Activ e Cursor: T he w aypoint will be mark ed at the boa t location.

14 SD Card Slot The SD car d slot on your contr ol head can be used with SD memory cards (optional-pur chase required) to add detail ed charts to your Fishfinder , import Humminbird ® naviga tion dat a , or e xp o rt n av ig at io n d ata f ro m yo ur Fishfinder .
15 Add Maps to your F ishfinder Y our Fishfinder includes a built -in UniMap™ with a mor e detailed map of North America (Domestic models) or a detailed map of Europe and Southeast Asia, including Australia and Ne w Zealand (International models).
16 Import Navigation Data Review the f ollowing inf ormation bef ore importing na vigation da ta (wa ypoints, routes, tracks, or gr oups) into your Humminbir d® unit.
17 T o export all navigation data: Use the following instructions to export all of the contr ol head’s wa ypoints, routes, tra cks, and groups to an installed, unlocked SD car d. 1. Insert an unlocked SD car d into the SD card slot. 2. Open the W a ypoint Management Dialog Box: Press the MENU ke y twice.
18 Update Softwar e Set up an online account at humminbird.com so tha t you will r eceive the la test Humminbird® news and softw are upda tes for y our Fishfinder . Y ou can also download HumminbirdPC™ fr om your account, which allo ws you to manage your wa ypoints, r outes, and tracks on y our personal computer .

28 Understanding the Side Imaging® Display It is important to understand how Side Imaging® technology pr oduces the display . The images you see on the displa y are pr oduced using sonar technology . The special transducer projects thr ee distinct beams - one beam facing down and tw o beams pointing out to the side.
29 The main benef it of Side Imaging® sonar to anglers is tha t it pro vides an over all survey of a large area of w ater . This giv es you a better under standing of the bottom topograph y and how structure is oriented f or more efficient fish ing.
