8 Chain Br ake N uts Chain Adjustment T ool (Bar T ool) Gui de Bar Ad jus tin g the ten s ion : Chain tens ion is v ery impor tant. Chain str etches dur ing use. This is especially true during the fir st few times you us e y our s aw . Alway s c heck c hain tens ion eac h time you use and refuel y our s aw .
9 OPER A TING YOUR U NIT WAR N I N G : The c hain must not move when the engine r uns at idle s peed. I f the chain moves at idle s peed refer to C ARB UR ETOR ADJ U STMEN TS wit hin this manual. Av oid cont ac t with t he muffler . A hot muffler can caus e s erio us b urns .
10 S When cutting with the s aw , the chain brak e must be dis engaged. Disengaged Engaged Braki ng funct ion cont rol CAUTION: The chain brak e mus t be chec k ed sev eral times daily .
11 FELLI NG LARGE TREES (6 inc hes/15 cm in diameter or larger) The notch method is us ed to fell large tr ees. A notc h is c ut on the s ide of the tree in the de- sir ed direc tion of f all. After a felling c ut is made on the opposite s ide of tree, the tree will tend to fall into the notc h.
12 WAR N I N G : Nev er turn s aw upside down to underc ut. T he saw c annot be con- trolled in this pos ition. Alway s make y our fir st c ut on the compres - sion side of the log. The compres s ion side of the log is w here the pres s ure of the log’s weight is conc entrated.
13 S Ma ke your f ist cut 1/3 of the way thr ough the bottom of the limb. S Ne xt ma ke a 2 nd cu t al l th e w ay through the l imb. Then c ut a t hird over- cut leav ing a 1 to 2 inc h collar fr om the trunk of the tree.
14 BAR MAINTENANCE If y our s aw cuts to one side, has to be forced through the c ut, or been run w ith an improper amount of bar lubric ation it may be neces - sar y to s erv ic e your bar. A worn bar will dam- age your chain and mak e c utting difficult.
