English – 9 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Ne ver allo w children or other persons not trained in the use of the machine to use or ser vice it. Local laws ma y regulate the age of the user . • Use hearing protection to minimise the r isk of hearing impairment.
10 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • F ollow the manuf acturer’ s recommendations regarding wheel weights or counterbalance weights to increase machine stability . Children • Serious accidents may occur if y ou f ail to be on your guard f or children in the vicinity of the machine.
English – 11 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Do not change the setting of gov ernors. If you run too fast, you risk damaging the machine components. See chapter on T echnical data f or highest per mitted engine speed. • Ne ver use the machine indoors or in spaces lac king proper ventilation.

English – 13 PRESENT A TION Seat The seat has a jointed attachment on the front edge and can be tipped f orward. The seat can also be adjusted lengthwa ys. Loosen the handles under the seat and adjust it f orwards or backw ards to the desired position.
14 – English Driving Bef ore star ting • Read the saf ety instructions and information concer ning the placement of controls and functions bef ore star ting. • P erform daily maintenance before starting as set out in the Maintenance schedule. Star t the engine 1 Make sure that the clutch control is depressed.
English – 15 Driving Connecting the jump leads • Connect each end of the red cable to the POSITIVE pole (+) on each batter y , e xercise care not to short circuit any of the ends against the chassis. • Connect one end of the blac k cable to the NEGA TIVE pole (-) on the fully charged batter y .
16 – English Driving Cutting tips • Localise and mark stones and other fixed objects to a void collision. • Star t with a high cutting height and reduce down until the required mowing results are obtained.
English – 17 Maintenance Maintenance schedule The f ollowing is a list of the maintenance which should be conducted on the machine. For those points not described in this manual, visit an authorised ser vice workshop. 1) First change after 8 hours. When oper ating with a heavy load or at high ambient temperatures , replace e very 50 hours.
18 – English Maintenance Cleaning Clean the machine directly after use. It is much easier to wash off grass cuttings bef ore they dr y . Oily dir t can be remov ed using a cold degreasing agent. Spra y on a thin la yer . Rinse at normal water pressure.
English – 19 Maintenance • If necessar y , the wires can be adjusted by tightening the adjuster nuts on each side of the steering collar . Do not ov er tighten the cables; they should only be drawn in tow ards the steering collar . Hold the cable , f or example using an adjustab le wrench, so that it does not twist.
20 – English Maintenance Replacement of fuel filter Replace the fuel filter e very 100 running hours (once per season) or more frequently if it is clogged. Replace the filter as f ollows: 1 Open the engine cov er . 2 Mov e the hose clips aw a y from the filter .
English – 21 Maintenance Ignition system The engine is equipped with an electronic ignition system. Only the spark plug requires maintenance. F or recommended spark plug, see T echnical data. Replacing the spark plug 1 Remov e the ignition cable shoe and clean around the spark plug.
22 – English Maintenance Checking the engine’ s cooling air intake Clean the air intake g rille in the engine cover behind the driver’ s seat. Open the engine cov er .
English – 23 Maintenance 9 Hook up the height adjustment strut. 10 Secure the collet spring. 11 Fit the front cov er . Removing the cutting unit 1 Carr y out points 1-6 to put the cutting unit in the ser vice position, see Ser vice position f or the cutting unit.
24 – English Maintenance Checking the cutting unit’ s parallelism Check the cutting unit’ s parallelism as f ollows: 1 Check the air pressure in the tyres 60 kP a/0.6 kp/cm 2 /8.5 PSI. 2 Place the machine on a flat surf ace. 3 Put the lifting le ver in the mo wing position.
English – 25 Maintenance 7 Remov e the screws on the cutting co v er . Lift the unit frame and remov e the cutting unit cover . 8 Loosen the spring that tensions the V -belt and pr y off the belt. 9 Simply re verse the procedure to fit the ne w belt.
26 – English Maintenance Restoring fr om service position 1 Grip the front edge of the unit and loosen the lock, f old down and slide in the unit. 2 Replace the cutting height sta y and the belt. 3 T ension the belt with the belt adjuster . 4 Fit the front cov er .
English – 27 Lubrication Checking the engine’ s oil level. Check the oil le vel in the engine when the Rider stands horizontal with the engine s witched off. Open the engine cov er . Loosen the dipstick, pull it up and wipe it off . Now insert the dipstick again.
28 – English Lubrication Checking the transmission oil le vel 1 Remov e the transmission co ver . Undo the two screws (one on each side) and lift off the transmission cov er . 2 Check that there is oil in the tr ansmission’ s oil tank. Rider 318 Fill if necessary with engine oil SAE 10W/40 (class SF–CC).

30 – English Storage Winter stora ge At the end of the season, or if the machine is going to stand idle f or more than 30 days , it should immediately be made ready f or storage. Fuel which is left to stand for long periods (30 da ys or more) can leav e tacky deposits which can b lock the carburettor and interf ere with the engine.
