4 – English INTR ODUCTION Dear customer! Cong ratulations on your choice to b uy a Husqvarna product! Husqvarna is based on a tradition that dates back to 1689, when the Swedish King Karl XI ordered the construction of a factory on the banks of the Huskvarna River , for production of musk ets.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 6 – English Impor tant P ersonal protective equipment HELMET A helmet should be w orn if the trees being cleared are taller than 2 m. HEARING PRO TECTION Wear hearing protection that provides adequate noise reduction. EYE PRO TECTION Alwa ys wear approved e ye protection.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 BOO TS Wear boots with steel toe-caps and non-slip sole . CLO THING Wear clothes made of a strong f abric and avoid loose clothing that can catch on twigs and branches. Alwa ys wear heavy , long pants. Do not wear jewellery , shorts sandals or go barefoot.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English then the carb urettor idle setting must be check ed. See instructions under the heading Maintenance. Stop s witch Use the stop s witch to switch off the engine . Star t the engine and mak e sure the engine stops when you mov e the stop switch to the stop setting.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 Quick release There is an easily accessib le, quic k release fitted at the front as a safety precaution in case the engine catches fire , or in any other situation that requires you to free y ourself from the machine and harness.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Locking n ut A locking nut is used to secure some types of cutting attachment. When fitting, tighten the nut in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the cutting attachment. T o remo ve it, undo the nut in the same direction as the cutting attachment rotates.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 General rules Only use cutting attachments with the guards we recommend! See the chapter on T echnical data. K eep the teeth of the blade correctly shar pened! F ollow our instructions and use the recommended file gauge.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 12 – English • The filing angle is 15 ° . File alternate teeth to the r ight and those in between to the left. If the blade has been hea vily pitted by stones it ma y be necessar y to dress the top edges of the teeth with a flat file, in e xceptional cases.
ASSEMBL Y English – 13 Fitting the handlebar • Remov e the screw at the rear of the throttle handle. • Slide the throttle handle onto the right side of the handlebar , (see diagram). • Align the screw hole in the throttle handle with the hole in the handlebar .
ASSEMBL Y 14 – English Assembling the cutting equipment Fitting a blade guar d, grass blade and grass cutter • Hook the blade guard/combination guard (A) onto the fitting on the shaft and secure with the bolt. CA UTION! Use the recommended blade guard.
ASSEMBL Y English – 15 CA UTION! Use the recommended blade guard. See the T echnical data section. • Fit the drive disc (B) on the output shaft. • T ur n the b lade shaft until one of the holes in the dr iv e disc aligns with the corresponding hole in the gear housing.
ASSEMBL Y 16 – English • Fit the bottom half of the trimmer head (K) to the cover (I) by pressing them together , with the cut-outs on the bottom half aligned with the catches on the cov er. • T o dismantle, follow the instructions in the re verse order .
ASSEMBL Y English – 17 Correct height Adjust the shoulder strap so that the cutting attachment is parallel to the ground. Correct balance Let the cutting attachment rest lightly on the ground. If you use a saw b lade it should balance about 10 cm above the ground to pre vent contact with stones and the like.
FUEL HANDLING 18 – English Fuel handling Nev er star t the machine: 1 If you ha ve spilled fuel on it. Wipe off the spillage and allow remaining fuel to e vaporate. 2 If you ha ve spilled fuel on yourself or y our clothes, change your clothes. W ash any par t of your body that has come in contact with fuel.
FUEL HANDLING English – 19 When the oil lev el is low , top up using engine oil to the edge of the oil refill hole. Only use recommended engine oil. Fueling Clean around the fuel cap. Clean the fuel and oil tank regularly . The fuel filter should be changed at least once a year .
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 20 – English Check bef ore star ting • Check the b lade to ensure that no cracks hav e formed at the bottom of the teeth or by the centre hole.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 21 Choke: Set the choke control in the chok e position. Primer b ulb: Press the air purge repeatedly until fuel begins to fill the bulb . The b ulb need not be completely filled. W arm engine Ignition: Set the stop s witch to the star t position.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 22 – English General working instructions Basic safety rules 1 Look around you: • T o ensure that people, animals or other things cannot affect y our control of the machine.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 23 The ABC of c learing • Alwa ys use the correct equipment. • Make sure the equipment is well adjusted. • Follo w the safety precautions. • Organise your work carefully . • Alwa ys use full throttle when star ting to cut with the blade.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 24 – English • Y ou should plan the strip so that you av oid going over ditches or other obstacles on the ground. Y ou should also orient the strip to take advantage of wind conditions, so that cleared stems fall in the cleared area of the stand.
WORKING TECHNIQUES English – 25 Brush cutting with a sa w blade • Thin stems and brush are mown down. W or k with a sawing mov ement, swinging side ways. • T r y to cut sever al stems in a single sawing mov ement. • With groups of hardwood stems, first clear around the group .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 26 – English Cutting • The trimmer is ideal for cutting grass that is difficult to reach using a normal lawn mower . K eep the cord parallel to the ground when cutting. Avoid pressing the trimmer head against the ground as this can ruin the lawn and damage the tool.
MAINTENANCE English – 27 Carburetor Function • The carburetor gov erns the engine’s speed via the throttle control. Air and fuel are mixed in the carb uretor. • Setting the carburettor in volves adapting the engine to suit local conditions, e.
MAINTENANCE 28 – English Cooling system T o keep the working temperature as low as possible the machine is equipped with a cooling system. The cooling system consists of: 1 Air intake on the starter. 2 Fins on the flywheel. 3 Cooling fins on the cylinder .
MAINTENANCE English – 29 Oiling the air filter Alwa ys use HUSQV ARNA filter oil, ar t. no. 531 00 92-48. The filter oil contains a solvent to mak e it spread evenly through the filter . Y ou should therefore a void skin contact. Put the filter in a plastic bag and pour the filter oil ov er it.
30 – English MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The follo wing is a list of the maintenance that must be performed on the machine. Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section. The user must only carr y out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual.
