Husqv ar na is based on a tradition that dates bac k to 1689, when the Swedish King Karl XI ordered the construction of a factory on the banks of the Huskvarna River , f or production of muskets .

8 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • This mov ement activates a spring-loaded mechanism that tightens the brak e band (C) around the engine dr iv e system (D) (clutch drum). • The front hand guard is not designed solely to activate the chain brak e.
English – 9 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Will m y hand alwa ys activ ate the chain brake during a kickbac k? No . It tak es a cer tain force to mo ve the hand guard f orward. If your hand only lightly touches the front guard or slips o ver it, the f orce may not be enough to trigger the chain brak e.
10 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Cutting hardwoods (most broadleaf trees) creates more vibration than cutting softwoods (most conif ers). Cutting with cutting equipment that is blunt or f aulty (wrong type or badly shar pened) will increase the vibration le v el.
English – 11 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Cutting equipment designed to reduce kickbac k The only wa y to a void kic kback is to make sure that the kickbac k zone of the bar ne ver touches an ything.
12 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • The cutting par t of the chain is called the cutter and consists of a cutting tooth (A) and the depth gauge (B). The cutters cutting depth is determined by the difference in height between the two (depth gauge setting).
English – 13 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Adjustment of depth gauge setting • The cutting teeth should be newly sharpened before adjusting the depth gauge setting. W e recommend that you adjust the depth gauge setting e v er y third time you shar pen the cutting teeth.
14 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • Adjust the tension on the chain by turning the wheel down (+) f or tighter tension and up (-) to loosen the tension. • Tighten the bar clutch by turning the knob clockwise . • F old the knob back in to lock the tensioning.
English – 15 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • Check that the bar tip sproc ket turns freely and that the lubricating hole in the tip sprocket is not b lock ed.
16 – English ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and c hain 445 Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remov e the clutch cov er (chain brak e). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
English – 17 ASSEMBL Y T ension the chain by turning the wheel down (+). The chain should be tensioned until it does not sag from the underside of the bar . The chain is correctly tensioned when it does not sag from the underside of the bar , but can still be turned easily by hand.
18 – English FUEL HANDLING Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be run using a mixture of gasoline and two- stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
English – 19 FUEL HANDLING Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is w ell mixed b y shaking the container bef ore refuelling.
20 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Starting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brake should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activ ate the chain brake b y pushing the front hand guard f orwards. Ignition; choke (A): Set the chok e control in the choke position by pulling the red control outw ard - upward (1).
English – 21 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Note! Pull the front hand guar d towards the fr ont handle. The chain brake is now disenga ged. Y our saw is ready for use. • Ne ver star t a chain sa w unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly .
22 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain br ake works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
English – 23 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES General rules 1 If you understand what kic kback is and ho w it happens then you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise. By being prepared you reduce the risk. Kickback is usually quite mild, but it can sometimes be v er y sudden and violent.
24 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Basic cutting technique General • Alwa ys use full throttle when cutting! • Reduce the speed to idle after e very cut (r unning the engine f or too long at full throttle without any load, i.e. without any resistance from the chain during cutting, can lead to serious engine damage).
English – 25 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES T ur n the log and finish the cut from the opposite side. The log is supported at one end. There is a high r isk that it will split. Star t by cutting from belo w (about 1/3 of the wa y through). Finish by cutting from abo ve so that the two cuts meet.
26 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Remo v e any undergro wth from the base of the tree and check the area f or obstacles (stones, branches, holes , etc.) so that you ha ve a clear path of retreat when the tree starts to fall. Y our path of retreat should be roughly 135 degrees a wa y from the intended f elling direction.
English – 27 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Freeing a tree that has fallen badl y Freeing a ”trapped tree” It is v er y dangerous to remov e a trapped tree and there is high accident risk. Ne ver try to fell the tree that is trapped. Ne ver work in the risk zone of the hanging trapped tree .
28 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Limbing Mak e sure that y ou can stand and mov e about safely . Work on the left side of the trunk. Work as close as possib le to the chain saw f or maximum control. If possible, let the w eight of the chain saw rest on the trunk.
English – 29 MAINTENANCE General The user must only carry out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual. More e xtensive work must be carried out by an authorised ser vice workshop . Carb uretor adjustment Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful emissions.
30 – English MAINTENANCE Checking the inertia brake release With the engine turned off, hold the chain sa w ov er a stump or other firm object. Let go of the front handle so that the bar drops tow ards the stump as the chain saw rotates around the rear handle.
English – 31 MAINTENANCE Chain catcher Check that the chain catcher is not damaged and is firmly attached to the body of the chain saw . Right hand guar d Chec k that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects, such as cr acks.
32 – English MAINTENANCE Starter Replacing the starter cord • Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the crankcase and remov e the star ter . • Pull out the cord appro x. 30 cm (12 inches) and hook it into the notch in the rim of the pulley .
English – 33 MAINTENANCE Fitting the starter • T o fit the star ter , first pull out the star ter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase . Then slowly release the star ter cord so that the pulley engages with the pawls . • Fit and tighten the screws that hold the starter .
34 – English MAINTENANCE Cooling system T o keep the working temperature as low as possib le the machine is equipped with a cooling system. The cooling system consists of: 1 Air intake on the starter . 2 Air guide plate. 3 Fins on the flywheel. 4 Cooling fins on the cylinder .
