2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions on the machine and in the manual bef ore star ting. • Do not put hands or f eet near rotating par ts or under the machine.

6 CONNECT B A TTER Y (See Figs. 2) CA UTION: Do not short battery termi- nals by allo wing a wrench or any other object to con tact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connecting battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc. P ositive terminal must be connected fi rst to pre vent sparking from accidental ground ing.

13 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the eyes, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Always wear saf ety glass es or eye shields while op- erating y our tractor or per f orm ing any adjustments or repairs.
14 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope . • Choose the slowest speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills.
15 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 9) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure free wheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.

BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than fi ve (5) f eet to stop at highest speed in highest gear on a le vel, dr y concrete or pav ed surf ace, then brak e must be check ed and adjusted, then brak e must be adjusted.
20 ENGINE LUBRICA TION Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API ser vice classifi cation SG-SL. Select the oil’ s SAE viscosity grade according to your e xpected operating temperature .
21 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to prev ent engine dam age from overheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. See engine manual. AIR FIL TER Y our engine will not run proper ly using a dir ty air fi lter .

25 T O ADJUST STEERING WHEEL ALIGNMENT If steering wheel crossbars are not hor izontal (left to right) when wheels are positioned straight f orward, remov e steer- ing wheel and reassemble per instructions in the Assembly section of this manual. FRONT WHEEL T OE-IN/CAMBER The front wheel toe-in and camber are not adjustable on your tr actor .

27 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
28 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST AR T ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se ver al minutes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
