English- 16 CONTROLS Controls This operator ’s manual describes the Husqvarna Zero T urn Rider . The rider is fitted with either a Briggs & S tratton, Kawasaki, or Honda engine. T ransmission from the engine is made via two belt-driven hydraulic tr ansaxles, one for each drive wheel.
English- 17 CONTROLS 1. Parking Brake The parking brake is found on the left of the machine. Pull the lever backward to activate the brake and forward to release it. 2. Motion Control Levers The machine’ s speed and directio n are continuously variable using the two steering controls.
English- 18 CONTROLS positions when standing still or do not fit in the slots for moving the controls outward, they can be adjusted. T racking If the mower is not tracking straight, check the air pressure in both rear tires. Recommended air pressure is 15 psi.
English- 19 CONTROLS 5. Refueling The machine has one fuel t ank, just behind the seat. The tank volume is 5.4 gallons (20.4 liters). The engine will run on a minimum of 85- octane unleaded gasoline (no oil mix). Environmentally adap ted alkylate gasoline can be used beneficially .
English- 20 CONTROLS 6. By p ass linkage When pushing or pulling the mower , be sure to engage the IZT (I ntegraded Zeroturn T ransaxle) bypass linkages. The IZT byp ass linkages are locate d on the rear of the frame, below the rear engine gu ard. • Raise the deck into the highest cutting position.
English- 21 CONTROLS 8. Hour Meter The hour meter displa ys the total operating time. It will flash CHG OIL (Change Oil) at 50 hour intervals. The flash du ration is one hour before and one hour af ter the interval. The CHG OIL icon will come on and shut off automatically .

Throttle Control The throttle control regulates the engine speed and thereby the ra te of rotation of the blades, assuming the blade switch is pulled out, see Engaging the Mower Deck. In order to increase or decrease the engine speed, the control is moved forward or backward respectively .
English- 23 CONTROLS 13. Cutting height pedal The cutting deck height is obtained by pressing the foot peda l lift arm forward and releasing the transport latch. Then lower the deck to the preset heig ht. T o raise the deck push forward on the foot pedal lif t arm until the transport latch locks.
English- 24 OPERATION Operation Read "Safety Instructions" section and following pages, if you are unfamiliar with the machine. T raining Zero turn mowers ar e far more manuevera ble than typical riding mowers due to their un ique steering capabilities.
English- 25 OPERATION Before S t arting • Read the sections Safety Instructions and Contro ls before starting the machine. • Perform the daily maintenance before starting (see Maintenance Schedule in the Maintenance section). • Check that there is sufficient fuel in the fuel tank.
English- 26 OPERATION 4. Disengage the mowe r blades by depressing the blade switch. 5. Move the steering controls outward to the locked (outer) neutral position.
English- 27 OPERATION 7. If the engine is cold, the choke control should be pulled out to its extents. 8. Open the fuel shut of f valve. 9. Press in and turn the ignition key to the start position.
English- 28 OPERATION 10. When the engine start s, immediately release the ignition key back to the run position. 1 1. Press the choke control in gradually when the engine has started. 12. Set the desired engine speed with the throttle. Allow the engine to run at a moderate speed, “half throttle”, for 3-5 minutes before loading it too heavily .
English- 29 OPERATION T o start an engine with a weak battery If your battery is too weak to start the engine, it should be recharge d. (See “Battery” on page 37).
English- 30 OPERATION Running 1. Release the p arking bra ke by moving the lever forw ard. Y our mower is equipped with an operator presence system. W hen the engine is running, any at tempt by the oper ator to leave the seat without first setting the parking brake will shut of f the engine.
English- 31 OPERATION In order , for example, to turn right while moving forward, move the right control towards the ne utral position . The rotation of the right wheel is re duced and the machine turns to the right.
English- 32 OPERATION Mowing Tip s • Observe and flag rocks and other fixed objects to avoid collisions. • Begin with a high cutting height and reduce it until the desired mowing result is attained. The average lawn should be cut to 2 1/2" (64 mm) during the cool season and over 3" (76 mm) during th e hot months.
English- 33 OPERATION Stopping the Engine Allow the engine to idle a minute in order to attain normal operating temperature before stopping it, if it has b een worked hard. Avoid idling the engine fo r longer period s, as there is a risk of the spark plugs fouling.

English- 35 MAINTENANCE Maintenance Maintenance Schedule The following is a list of maintenance procedures that must be performed on the ma chine. For those points not described in this manual, visit an authorized service workshop.
English- 36 MAINTENANCE 1) First change after 5-8 hours. When operating with a heavy load or at high ambient temperatures, repla ce every 50 hours. 2) In dusty conditions, cleaning and replacement are requir ed more often. 3) For da ily use, the machine should be lubricated twice weekly .
English- 37 MAINTENANCE Battery Y our mower is equipp ed with a maintenance free battery and does not need servicing. However , periodic charging of the battery with an automotive type battery charger will extend its life. • Keep battery and terminals clean.
English- 38 MAINTENANCE 9. Connect BLACK ground ing cable to negative (-) battery terminal with remaining hex bolt and hex nu t. 10. T ighten securely . 1 1. Close termin al access doors. 12. Lower seat. Ignition System The engine is equipped with an el ectronic ignition system.
English- 39 MAINTENANCE Checking the Safety System The machine is equipped with a safety system that pr events starting or driving u nder the following conditions. The engine can only be started when: 1. The mower de ck is disengaged. 2. The steering controls are in the outer , locked neutral position.
English- 40 MAINTENANCE Checking the Engine's Cooling Air Int ake Check that the engine’s cooling air int ake is free from leaves, grass, and dirt. If the cooling air int ak e is clogged, engine cooling deteriorates, which can lead to engine damage.
English- 41 MAINTENANCE Replacing the Air Filter - Briggs & St ratton Engine St an dard air fi lter If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly , the air filter may be clogged. If run with a dirty air filter , the spark plugs can b ecome fouled disrupting ope ration.
English- 42 MAINTENANCE Replacing the Air Filter Kawasaki Engine St an dard air fi lter 1. Remove the plastic fastener on the top of the air filter cowling and remove the air filter cowling. 2. Remove the foam rubber pre-filter and clean using a mild detergent.
English- 43 MAINTENANCE Replacing Air Filter Honda Engine If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly , the air filter may be clogged. If run with a dirty air filter , the spark plug s can become fouled, distrupting operation.
English- 44 MAINTENANCE Replacing Heavy Duty Air Filter If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly and the dust load indicat or has turned red the air filter may be clogged. If run with a clo gged air filter , di sruption of operation can occur . Cleaning/replacing the air filter is carried out as follows: Only do so when the dust indicator is red.
English- 45 MAINTENANCE Replacing the Fuel Filter Replace the line-mounte d fuel filter every 100 hours (once per season ) or more regularly if it is clogged. Replace the filter as follows: 1. Move the hose clamp s away from the filter . Use flat-nosed pliers.
English- 46 MAINTENANCE Checking the Parking Brake Visuall y check that no damage is found on the lever , links, or switch belonging to the parking brake. Perform a st and-still test and check that there is su fficent braking action. T o adjust the parking brake, cont act the Husqvarna service workshop.
English- 47 MAINTENANCE Deck belt inst allation NOTE: For ease in installing the deck belt, refer to the routing decal on the front edge of the deck. • Wrap the deck belt around the electric clutch that is located on the engine shaft. • Push the rest of the belt through the IZT(Integraded Zeroturn T ransaxle) support and up ont o the deck.
English- 48 MAINTENANCE IZT belt T o replace IZT (Integraded Zeroturn T r ansaxle) belt Park the mower on a level surface. Engage the park brake. IZT belt removal NOTE: Be careful not to damage the fan blades on the IZT as this can a ffect cooling or damage the IZT • Remove the deck belt (see to replace deck belt in this section of the manual).
English- 49 MAINTENANCE Checking the Blades In order to attain the best mowing effect, it is important that the bla des are well sharpened and not damag ed. Bent or cracked blades or blades with large nicks should be replaced. Check the blade mounts. Damaged blades should be repla ced when hitting obstacles that result in a breakdown.
English- 50 MAINTENANCE Blade replacement : • Remove blade bolt by turning counterclockwise. • Install new or re-sharpened blade with stamped "GRASS SIDE" facing towards ground/grass (down) or “THIS SIDE UP” facing deck and cutte r housing.
English- 51 MAINTENANCE Adjusting the Mower Deck Check the tire pressure bef ore adjustment of the mover deck, refer to p age 45. Faulty mower deck adjustment will cause uneven mowing result. Leveling 1. Position the mowe r on a level, preferably concrete, surfac e.
English- 52 MAINTENANCE T o adjust anti-scalp rollers Anti-scalp rollers are properly adjusted when they are just slightly of f of the ground when the deck is at the desi r ed cutting height in the operating position. Anti-scalp rollers then keep the deck in the prop er position to help prevent scalping in most terrain conditions.
English- 53 MAINTENANCE Cleaning and W ashing Regular cleaning and washing, especially under the mower deck, will increase the machine’s lifesp an. Make it a habit to clean the machine directly after use (after it is cooled), before the dirt sticks.
English- 54 MAINTENANCE Parking brake T o adjust parking brake Jack up unit and supp ort properly with jack stands. Allow clearance to work at rear transaxles. Before making any adjustments: Set park brake. Measure the dist ance between the rod swivel pin and the brake arm wa sher .
English- 55 LUBRICATION Lubrication Lubrication Schedule General Remove the ignition key to prevent unintentional move ments during lubrication. When lubricating with an oil can, it must be filled with engine oil. When lubricating with grease, unless otherwise stated , use a high grade molybdenum disulfide grease.
English- 56 LUBRICATION Lubricating the Cables If possible, grease both ends of the cables and move th e controls to end stop po sitions when lubricating. Refit the rubber covers on the cables af ter lubricat ion. Cables with sheaths will bind if they are not lubricated regularly .
English- 57 LUBRICATION 4. Deck outer spindle Lubricate using a grease gun , one zerk, each side 2-3 strokes . Use only good quality bearing grease. 5. Engine Oil Changing the Engine Oil The engine oil sh ould be changed for the first time afte r 5-8 hours of operation.
English- 58 LUBRICATION Checking the Oil Level Check the oil level in the engine when the machine is standing level and the engine is stopped. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and then replace it . The dipstick should be screwed into place. T ake the dip stick out again and read the oil level.
English- 59 LUBRICATION 6. Changing the Engine O il Filter 1. Drain the engine oil in accordance with the work description under the heading Engine Oil/Change Engi ne Oil. 2. Remove the oil filter . If necessary , use a filter remover . 3. Wipe new , clean e ngine oil onto the seal for the new filter .
English- 60 LUBRICATION 7. Drain old oil filters of all free flowing oil prior to disposal. Place used oil in appropriat e containers a nd dispose o f it in accordance with laws in your area. 8. Remove the top port plug (see illustration) from the left side and right side of the transaxles prior to filling with oil.
English- 61 LUBRICATION Purging Procedure s Due to the effects air has on ef ficiency in hydrostatic drive applications, it is critical that it is purged from the system. These purge procedure s should be implemented any time a hydrostatic system has been opened to facilit ate maintenance or any additional oil has b een added to the system.

Fuel allowed to stand for long periods of time (30 days or more) can leave sticky residues that can plug the carburetor and disru pt engine function.
