ASSEMBL Y 6 Your new tractor has been assembled at the factory with exception of those parts left unassembled for shipping purposes. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightened securely. Use the correct tools as necessary to insure proper tightness.
ASSEMBL Y 7 CONNECT BATTERY (See Figs. 2 and 3) CAUTION: Do not short battery termi- nals. Before connecting battery, re- move metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc. Positive terminal must be connected first to prevent sparking from acciden- tal grounding.
ASSEMBL Y 8 FIG. 5 TO ATTACH NOSE ROLLER (See Fig. 4) • Position brackets, 17/32 x 7/8 x 16 gauge washers, and nose roller between deck mounting brackets as shown. Be sure to position brackets on correct side, as shown. • Install 3/8-16 x 1 hex bolts and 3/8-16 crownlock nuts as shown.
ASSEMBL Y 9 TO CONVERT TO BAGGING OR DISCHARGING Simply remove mulcher plate and store in a safe place. Your mower is now ready for discharging or installation of optional grass catcher accessory. NOTE: It is not necessary to change blades. The mulcher blades are designed for discharging and bagging also.
OPERA TION 10 KNO W Y OUR TRA CT OR READ THIS OWNER'S MANUAL AND SAFETY RULES BEFORE OPERATING YOUR TRACTOR Compare the illustrations with your tractor to familiarize yourself with the locations of various controls and adjustments. Save this manual for future reference.
OPERA TION 11 HO W T O USE Y OUR TRA CT OR TO SET PARKING BRAKE (See Fig. 10) Your tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing switch. When engine is running, any attempt by the operator to leave the seat without first setting the parking brake will shut off the engine.
OPERA TION 12 TO OPERATE MOWER (See Fig. 11) Your tractor is equipped with an operator presence sensing switch. Any attempt by the operator to leave the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine. • Select desired height of cut.
OPERA TION 13 TO START ENGINE (See Fig. 9) When starting engine for the first time or if engine has run out of fuel, it will take extra cranking time to move fuel from the tank to the engine. • Depress clutch/brake pedal and set parking brake. • Place gearshift lever in neutral (N) position.

CUST OMER RESPONSIBILITIES 15 TRA CT OR Always observe safety rules when performing any mainte- nance. BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than six (6) feet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear, then brake must be adjusted. (See “TO ADJUST BRAKE” in the Service and Adjust- ments section of this manual).
CUST OMER RESPONSIBILITIES 16 ENGINE LUBRICATION Only use high quality detergent oil rated with API service classification SF or SG. Select the oil’s SAE viscosity grade according to your expected operating temperature.
CUST OMER RESPONSIBILITIES 17 MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffler and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fire hazard and/or damage. SPARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after every 100 hours of operation, whichever occurs first.
SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS 18 CAUTION: BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SERVICE OR ADJUSTMENTS: • Depress clutch/brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place gearshift lever in neutral (N) position. • Place attachment clutch in “DISENGAGED” position.

21 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TRANSAXLE SHIFTER LINKAGE AND AD- JUSTMENT (See Figs. 28 and 29) The transaxle should be in neutral when the gear shift lever is in the neutral (N) (lock gate) position. The adjustment is preset at the factory; however, if adjustment is needed, proceed as follows: • Make sure transaxle is in neutral (N).

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS ACCELERATION TEST - • Move throttle control lever from slow ( ) to fast ( ) position. If engine hesitates or dies, turn idle mixture valve out (counterclockwise) 1/8 turn. Repeat test and continue to adjust, if necessary, until engine acceler- ates smoothly.
